End of our Great Australian Detour - and our new bus!

n this episode, we finally arrive at the Gold Coast, marking the end of our Great Australian Detour series! Things got a bit hectic upon arrival with countless activities, mainly focusing on our bus. This episode offers the first glimpse of our plans for the new tug.
After a busy week sorting out the bus, we head to Crows Nest for some necessary car maintenance. This gave us a chance to slow down and enjoy some sightseeing, including a visit to the stunning Crows Nest National Park, tasting incredible local food, and exploring the oldest soft drink manufacturer in Australia. Enjoy! 😊

Another fantastic video guys. Both of our Qld leisure trips have been 'vehicle related' bringing purchases back to Vic. The first was to pick up a car in Sanford Valley and we drove it down to Armidale in NSW via the Hinterland. Early morning, a bit of low cloud with the sun coming up, and it was utterly stunning country up in those hills. Just gorgeous. The second trip was to pick up our truck after a friend took it to his place at the Sunshine Coast for us. We were again heading to Armidale before going to stay with my cousin just outside Kempsey, and we headed down via some back blocks narrow roads behind what we later learned were the Glasshouse Mountains. After discovering a perfectly timed 'no trucks or caravans beyond this point' sign halfway (!!) along the dirt road shortcut we'd chosen, we had to backtrack and detour to Crow's Nest. We stopped for lunch at a little cafe (The Nest Cafe?) near the memorial park. I wish we'd had time to stay and explore as the national park areas you visited look lovely too and with hindsight breaking our trip to Armidale over two days would have been more comfortable. Lily's Bakery looks like it would have been an awesome lunch spot too. It's always hard to pass up a great bakery! If you ever find yourself down near Armidale both the Waterfall Way and the Wollomombi - Kempsey Road have incredible scenery. Just be aware the Wollomombi - Kempsey road is steep, narrow, winding, and has long drop-offs, but its route further towards Kempsey follows the Macleay River and the scenery is utterly stunning. Looking forward to the next instalments on the truck (bus) build and your travels 🙂

We did not realise how hilly it was around this whole area, but considering we are literally on the Great Dividing Range, it's not unexpected! You are right about the views in the morning up here, we are in Mareeba at the moment, and the morning views with the mist in the valley over the tablelands are simply stunning! Thanks for the tips! 😀😀👍

Wow 🤩 you guys must have been Knackered! The hills around behind Brisbane are gorgeous. I used to go up there to avoid the city going form Victoria up to Cairns and we loved that part of the drive. Can’t wait for next progress instalment on that bus 👏 😃what a find in Crows Nest NP ! Love it 😊 never been there! Couldn’t get in there back in the day (another fireside story) nice to be reminded 🙏 Onward and upwards 🤙🤗 you must be lovin’ the cooler weather though. Love your work 💯👌🏼🌺🍄‍🟫🧚🤗🦆

The Tully memorial park has gotten hugely popular over the last 2 or 3 years. They did a lot of work on the area and it has made it very popular for travelkers and locals. I live in Beaudesert, only 0 minutes from there

Time for you guys to get a composting toilet. There's only 2 of us but we can use it 100% for 6 weeks without empting it. It also helps us get an extra 2 days out of our water tanks.

We have looked into it, but apparently it's tricky for big families, to much 'volume' to allow the composting to happen. We are going through all the motions currently as we research the new van! 😀🍻

We are currently traveling with some visiting WA friends and they have told us that human waste including compost is to only be disposed of in a dump point. It cannot by WA Law be put into bins. We haven’t looked it up but if true that would be very painful.

When we have to go to Brisbane for Cain’s Heart Checks we try and stay at Daybora Showgrounds. They have a weekly rate of $120 includes power and water. 1/2hr to Cain’s hospital and 45mins into centre of Brissy but that depends on traffic. (You have to book). Your new Van looks good, be sad to see your 76 V8 go though. We are in Townsville until mid July then heading south around Gympie way, if your still about it would be great to catch up. If not, Safe travels.

Yes it will be sad to say goodbye to the 76, just need more space! We are hanging around Atherton Tablelands for a while now as we want to stay put for the new baby! Will then start heading south again so might be around your neck of the woods! 😀👍

The jury is still out on the 76. I would love to keep it, but having it just sitting in storage is probably not that practical, we will see when we get back to Vic later in the year. Oh, and the custom boat loader for the bus is being built as we speak. 🍻🍻🚤
