A portfolio of photographs and footage of an Australian Black-shouldered Kite that I have named Elana. I'm only guessing that it's a female. I first met Elana in January when she established a territory at one of my favourite birding places. She had rufous streaks on her breast and wing coverts and orange eyes. These characteristics marked her as an immature bird. Now, six months later, she has lost the rufous streaking and her eyes are getting redder. She's approaching the stunning livery of an adult of her species.
Some of the video clips in this production were created from JPG copies of sequential burst RAW images imported into Adobe Premiere Pro. For the first time, I also used Adobe After Effects to stabilise the resulting clips. This is good! After Effects is going to save me a lot of time and tedium for this kind of work.
