In July, you should do something related to World War 1 for its 110 year Anniversary of its start. One Idea is the Treaty of Versailles, like you mentioned back then.
When you talked about having to read between the lines to interpret what officials were saying compared to how the Tang dynasty was doing, that sounds exactly like my approach when watching current government press conferences. You know that even when politicians tell the truth they’re going to spin it to make themselves look good and may be omitting details that make them look bad, so you have to take it with a proverbial grain of salt and compare their statements with what investigative journalists turn up.
Series ideas 1. Indian rebellion of 1857 2. The Mughal empire 3. Wars of the roses 4. Or a small video on Thomas Alexandre dumas

Another good subject would be Shajar al-Durr, the one female Sultan in Egyptian history (from 1348 to 1250), whose life and rule bridged the era of the Ayyubid dynasty and the following ascent of the Mamluk overlords.
I do wish that we learned more about the substantive changes of her reign, but considering her rise to power is unique in Chinese history, I'm glad that you did as deep a dive as you did.

Women government is one thing. She also changed court lady rank titles from lame names like "beauty" "talented lady" to more sophisticated and honorable names that isnt always focusing on the word "lady" and as you can see from artifacts, cross reading is a favorite of Tang women
I remember "The Celebrated Cases of Judge Dee"! It's a fascinating collection for anyone interested in the society of the time, or anyone who just loves detective stories.
Wu Zetian and Tama no Mai have no connection with each other. The reason people compare the two is also not as simple as them both strong female characters in the royal court in East-Asia. Another contributing factor is probably because the term '狐狸精' or 'fox spirit/demon' is slang (in Cantonese at least) for a seductress, a sexually promiscuous woman who seduces (married) men and lead them astray. Basically, any woman who has a man wrapped around their little finger, will get that term thrown at them. So, Wu Zetian being called 狐狸精 and Tama no Mai being a kitsune (狐) is probably why people think the to are somehow connected
Series ideas: - American revolution - Ming treasure voyages - Fall of the Ming dynasty - Fall of the Byzantine Empire - End of the Korean Empire - Korean Independents movement - End of the Solomonic Dynasty - Taiping Rebellion - Donghak Peasant Revolution - Second Opium War - Boxer Rebellion - The great siege of malta Sorry extra history if this is a lot.

The fall of the solomonic dynasty would really just be a biography of Haile Selassie, but I'd still be all for that. The monarchy was going strong up to his rule and for much of his rule as well. The anti-monarchy movement was largely because it was post WW2, having an absolute monarch was starting to be very behind the times, and rarher than giving up powers, Haile Selassie was becoming more and more authoritarian, despite his advisors begging him not to. A less stubborn and senile emperor may have stayed in power as a constitutional monarch, but either way there was no significant risk to the monarchy during the reigns of the previous emperors, beyond attempted colonization. There was also some hypocrisy with Haile Selassie specifically. He was the head of the AU (or it might have beeen its precursor), and organization that promotes democracy, while being an absolute monarch, and he cultivated enormous popularity internationally while being so unpopular that he was overthrown by communists back home.

Welcome to the new team member! Looking forward to what you bring!
Really enjoy the context fairy segment - looking forward to more of those!
Love this section after each series! Really helps expand on them!😊😊😊😊❤❤❤
Hey guys, I really love your serirs on Wu Zentien, but I would really appreciate it if you guys could do one on the Pelopanisian war. It's really interesting, and I hope you guys consider it on a future series. Good luck, guys.
Welcome to the new researcher-enjoy! Hope you get over your cold soon.
Long time subscriber, first time commenter - LOVE the Context Fairy segment! Often it's really hard to conceptualise different historical events happening in tandem across the world: really great work!

I love it too!
Late to the party but I ADORE the new segment, global context is so easy to miss and so often absent
Ooh, loving Context Fairy! I always have a hard time connecting dates to events, so that really helps for me!
_Love_ Context Fairy World Tour. History, especially when taught in segments like this, can feel like separate worlds, even though nothing could be further from the truth, so it's great to see what other places in the world are up to at the time, even if they don't tie into anything
You guys are the Best! You always make My day! And happy new lunar year! 🐉🐉🐉🐉🐲🐲🐲🐲
This was a great series and I can't wait for the one on Hypatia
Yay! Judge Dee! I loved these books!

@charlotte-mg9wj I'm not going to lie, I feel rather humiliated. And The Infinite and The Divine was a great, book. Still haven't read the Fall of Cadia, working my way through The End and the Death vol3. I need some bacon to go with the egg on my face. Sorry, Robert! Challenge rescinded!
I only just noticed: there doesn't appear to be new music for this series. The music at the end is from the series on Sun Yat-Sen.
This was a good video.
I love your Necrons in the Back
Can't wait for secret societies, sound very intriguing
Daji is probably the Empress that that commenter was thinking of. Their stories are kinda similar, but Daji is the one that was written into The Investiture of the Gods as an evil Fox Spirit.
Cool video :D
Nice
10:56 General Jack D. Ripper , "Women uh... women sense my power and they seek the life essence. I, uh... I do not avoid women, Mandrake." Group Capt. Lionel Mandrake, "No." General Jack D. Ripper , "But I... I do deny them my essence."
Funny, and so coincidentally, quit a few great empires were greatest / really great when females were at the helm. Isabella of Spain, Catherine the Great of Russia, Elizabeth I of Rngland, Wu of Tang (Zhao?) China, Maria Teresa of Hapsburg Austria…
When is the Wu Z theme song is gonna be released? It's SO GOOD
I'm really dying to know, but on the shelf behind you with all the 40k stuff is that dagger from the 90s film The Shadow and the head piece of the staff of ra from Raiders of the Lost Ark?
Can you do a series on Somalia 🇸🇴 ? It has such a RICH history even with WW1/2
Since your next series is about Sitting Bull, have you considered Chief Joseph? I'm from Montana, and he is a big part of our local history.
You guys could do an entire 10 part series on Investiture of the Gods.
I like your Necrons

I am super excited for the series about Hypatia, if she was christian or catholic she would have been sainted kind of ironic though
In July, you should do something related to World War 1 for its 110 year Anniversary of its start. One Idea is the Treaty of Versailles, like you mentioned back then.
Hypatia's one of the GOATs though

Sometimes... the smile on the outside hides a broken soul on the inside and as much as we think we know them, we'll never be as close to the smiling soul we think we know 😔as the monster hiding within....😢 When you are talking with someone, always while looking then in the eyes, ask how're they doing? Not the children, not their job their partner....ask THEM and if you think they might be stressed or whatever offer them your time to do something they need done and help lighten the load because sometimes that's all it takes 😏 for a person to feel, like they themselves are important enough in a persons life to have someone actually care about THEM! Many times they're feeling like they won't be missed because they aren't important enough to anyone for them to be asked about and it's in that little moment and that simple question can validate another person's presence in this world and they might just stick around a little longer because they really do hold value to another person even if it's the neighbors next door because believe it or not that's how a lot of people feel like and think WHY allow my children to be hurt like that, if I can give them peace, while walking into heaven!?! I sincerely hope whomever is reading this knows that you matter to more people than you know and yesterday is a memory tomorrow unknown but today is a gift and that's WHY they call it the present......🤗❣️🙏🏼 4 ✌🏻 AlWaYs
I wonder if extra history will do the battle of Gallipoli
While I understand the wont to view the more personal nature of women's biographies as in some way diminishing them in comparison with their male counterparts, it's this tendency that has always made them seem to me so much more human, so much more engaging, and so much more alive in comparison to the more standard histories, written especially of male princes, which so often neglect rulers' personal lives to such an extent that their very names become little more than bywords for the æras of statecraft whereover they so happened-less by providence than by chance-to præside.
Wow
Given the ever-increasing saber-rattling between the PRC, ROC and US, it would be great to have a series that covers the end of the Chinese Civil War and both China's history during the Cold War, since there is a lot of misinformation about the realtionship between the ROC aka Taiwan and the PRC aka Mainland China floating around.
PANR has tuned in.
you should make a video about Stalin's prior life as a bank robber
1 minute gang
Wu's mistake is she fails to convince the Tang and its loyal servants to follow her idea and way of ruling.
Hope we get a series about Indian history! Like Mughal Empire or the Cholas.
Nice neuron army in the top left
Wait... so the _Bavarian_ Illuminati was *real??* Well then, didn't see that one coming. 😂
Inbreeding ? In my East European country, my people were not allowed to marry inside a village, and also not with the 1st or 3rd neighbouring villages. That was decided by the uper-Church leadership. It was an annual "Women-Marked" were families would come the search spouses (both sides) That took a long weekend and was sanctioned by a Bisho (?) or a local Pries counsell. . Those able to marry had 4 or 5 days to find a partner that they liked; their respective families had to abide by their decisions, and a Priest would perform the marriage rites. The man will follow this wife's family and they would consummate their marriage at her place. So China ? Inbreeding ? Not the 1st or 2nd family, which was definitively a crime for the high class, but 3rd or else ? And how was that regulated for common, farmer tipe, people ?
😮 wu zetian the only woman emperor
would really love to see you guys cover the taiping rebellion, it being the third largest conflict in human history and all (and way more manageable to cover than others like the mongol invasions or the world wars)
