Empress of Ireland's Deadly Collision
Автокөліктер мен көлік құралдары
In May 1914, Empress of Ireland departed Quebec City, Canada for Liverpool, England. She steamed down the Saint Lawrence River in foggy conditions until she encountered the collier Storstad in a deadly collision. The result was one of the deadliest shipwrecks in human history.

A few people have pointed out that the subscribe animation appearing at the end of the video was inappropriate--I agree. I put the animation at the end of GBM Clips videos by default and I wasn't considering the context of that part of this particular video. In the future, I will pay closer attention to where I place these animations (subscribe/like animations, etc.). Hopefully this doesn't distract too much from the video. Have a great weekend, everyone.
There's just something about industrial, mechanical, and transportation sounds like the ones used when discussing the moment of collision that I could just listen to for hours.

RIP 🙏 to all who have died in this tragedy
Some time ago now I finally made up my mind to include the tale of the Empress of Ireland in my series of liner stories that I'm working on, The Steamship Series. The guy on watch for the Storstad when the collision took place was some inexperienced kid, and the captain wasn't on the bridge. Friendly/stern reminder to never under any circumstances leave someone who has no idea what they're doing in charge by themselves and go off somewhere else, especially in a situation like this.
I'd never heard of this until now. Sad how forgotten it is.
I'm curious if you'd ever like to do a video on the RMS Laconia and her sinking and the incident surrounding the rescue of her survivors. My great grandmother emigrated from England to Boston US aboard her in 1927 and her story is of particular interest and I'm sure others would find it fascinating.

Horrible, horrible. We think about how terrible other disasters were, but none of them can hold a candle to Empress of Ireland. What a tragedy.
I surprised there wasn't far more collisions on the St. Lawrence.

@@Cannon530YTOO Yes, I've acknowledged that oversight in some other comments. It is not automatic per se, but I do add the subscribe animation at the end of every video by default. So, I essentially didn't consider the context in this case. When I add the subscribe reminder mid-video, I do pay attention to the placement so that it isn't distracting, but this one I just a default placement. I wouldn't go so far as to say it makes the entire video bad, though. I actually think my video on the Empress of Ireland (the original, not this clip necessarily) is one of my better videos.

@@Cannon530YTOO oh yes! I have done my fair share on research on her along with the other museum ships
In 2004 an expedition very meticulously determined the collision itself was really just a freak accident caused by the sudden onset of fog.
What horrible tragedy RIP all who died.
Maybe a video on the rms majestic?

If you mean RMS Majestic as in the former Bismarck, I do have a video on my channel about her and her sisters. It was released about a year and a half ago. If you mean Majestic of 1889, then I do plan on doing a video on her in the future so stay tuned.

Maybe not, it's just where I usually put it. I did change up the outro music though which is more appropriate than the usual music.
My great grandfather was a survivor of the ship. His father died trying to get on the Titanic.
Was Samuel okay?
Fun fact did you know that empress of Ireland have a sister ship

Yes, you're right. I just put it at the end of videos by default. Can't remove it now, though.
What's the point of releasing a clip from an existing video? I generally enjoy your content, and I enjoyed the video on Empress, but this feel like cheap self advertisement. "Let me remind people I exist without actually publishing new material" vibe.

It’s very common on KZread. The point is that not everyone watches all of my videos and some good standalone content is stuck within a 20 minute video. So, if I cut that part out and upload separately they see more likely to see it. It also helps to reach new people. Also, the KZread algorithm likes frequent content. Since I only have time to make a new video once a month, this helps to reduce the time between uploads.

@@HyperVegitoDBZ Eh, it depends. Sponsorships don't make a big portion of this channel's revenue but I know they do for other channels.
according to some books I have read, The cat of the empress allegedly left the ship shortly before depature in Quebec that day. Also they state she was Black and white and in fact not orange. So no I am confused over this >100 year old cat.
