I looked after my Mother in her last four years and she died a few days before Christmas in 2018, she had Dementia and I wouldn't wish it on anyone. She was the heart of our Christmas and it will never be the same, but I know she is always around me especially at Christmas, love you Mum.❤

Good god. I lost my mum 14 years ago to this terrible disease and I am sat here in tears.

My step dad has dementia, and when his cat Snowy died, it broke him. After two years, I finally decided to take the chance on buying him a lifelike fluffy cat of similar appearance. I was afraid it would only worsen the pain, but he sits in his chair with it on his chest, and he talks to it when he enters the room. It was exactly the right thing to do. Older people need something dependent to give their love to as their world and social circle shrinks.

My mum passed away with Alzheimer's on 7th April this year, and my dad has vascular dementia, I have nursed each one. It's been a tough year, and will be first Christmas without mum. I will carry on her traditions for dad, and in her memory.

For those of us that have lost a parent to dementia, this is heartwrenching. It is a dreadful disorder, so any money for research is much needed. 🎅

This is very well done; a real tearjerker…my husband is getting an MRI and then we have to go to the ‘memory clinic’…I’m so scared what might be coming..both his parents and my Dad and stepdad had dementia.😢 😢

My nan had this awful disease. I think what you guys are doing is wonderful and your vids always fills me with emotion 😢 beautiful ❤

This brought back memories. My mom died 2 days after my birthday. Christmas was and is hard because she loved that holiday. Your ad made realize my mom still lives on in the Christmases we have together. Thank you.

Made me cry . So sad for people with dementia terrible disease .But please could we have some cheer as well in the Christmas adverts. 😂😂😂

This Ad reduced me to tears. I'm now 'suspecting' that my dear husband of nearly 60 years could be showing 'early' signs of dementia. In older age you have to face losing all the nice things that your life, not so long ago, consisted of, like long walks, social life, good health and lots more. However, we have been very fortunate to have had (mostly) good health for SO long ... and I'm thinking now of all those who suffer serious illness 'long before' old age, like ill children for instance. John Lewis has raised this cruel brain-decline illness and thanks go to them. What an advert, so poignant! Please may it help the Alzheimers cause. And Please may we have "peace" at Christmas for ALL.

Having lost my dog this year I'm now in floods of tears. Don't know whether I love or hate this advert

I lost my mother in law to dementia. At the nursing home if they couldn't find her she was in the sanctuary. When she could no long recognize or communicate with us she still had GOD and GOD had her. RIP Elsie.

Cried my eyes out watching this 😢 my mum was diagnosed with dementia last year. Its a devastating cruel disease

My brother walked away from my Mum 2 years ago because she has Alzheimers. I had this conversation yesterday with my Mum as I can't look after her on my own anymore. More people need to realise that more and more people are getting Alzheimers and other forms of dementia. They are not diseases of old age as many people believe. My only Christmas wish would be that my brother sees this and gets back in touch and gives my Mum some peace before she passes away.

I'm sorry to hear that about your mother its terrible but they also need to hear where its all coming from like all the metals in our foods water other drinks medicine soaps deodorants, this isn't a joke either its facts and that's why their are more and more people getting this awful condition without awareness and stopping it at the source it will continue to happen at an alarming rate.

Sad but unfortunately a reality for many families. Love everyone whilst you can❤

My stepdad had Alzheimer's and had to go into rehab after breaking his hip and didn't get to come home again, though the plan was for him to only stay there short term while the staff and PT helped him get back in shape. I HATE that I didn't see him the week he died, but I am glad that the rehab he was in let me bring my little pug to visit him frequently. My sweet boy also got to visit with other patients and families there, and I think he brought a lot of people some joy at a time when they needed it most. This advert is beautiful and really touches on the importance of spreading care for our elderly.

Why do I watch these John Lewis Christmas ads? I always go through so many tissues, and feel my heart ripped out. But I also see the stories of love, and reasons to love, and so I'll keep coming back. A Merry, Blessed Christmas to each and all of you!

My grandmother is now in a home with late stage dementia. I hadn’t seen her for 9 years because of a vindictive father that got in the way. The first time I saw her in the home three months ago she just about remembered who I was but it was too late to explain why I hadn’t been there for 9 years. Since then she doesn’t remember anybody and on more recent visits, sees me as a kind stranger, which I am fine with as at least it gives her someone. This song has me balling my eyes out as I’ll never get the chance to go back to a time when I could have explained to her why things are how they are, and I’m all too aware that she will die without ever knowing the truth and never hearing what I need to say. Thank you, deeply, for this song and the work you’re doing for charity.

What are these big corporate companies doing Christmas is a time of joy and to be magical for children there is so much pain and misery in the world to day . I think the people at the top of these companies have lost the plot. I do feel for the families dealing with dementia. I am glad I was brought up in the 60s

It's happening with my mom too sadly. She no longer knows her grandchildren or great grandchildren and on some days, she does not know me either. Hold on to your own memories, they are precious

Yes, let's not ruin everyone's festival of overindulgence by highlighting the reality of what many people are currently living through....after all it might put you off your oversized Christmas lunch! Christmas is supposed to be a time when we remember the birth of our Saviour, who came into the world as the perfect sacrificial lamb to atone for our sins....and what has man turned it into? A commercialised feast day of selfishness and carnality. Imo this John Lewis advert is much more reflective of what Christmas should be about than the usual run of the mill adverts that promote covetousness and greed.

This can’t be the real Christmas advert ..as a dementia advert its very moving but Christmas advert no .. if you have or had to watch loved one get lost in dementia Alzheimer’s I’m being one of them ..Christmas advert is not place to make you feel guilt sadness and loss ,, sometimes we need to escape from every day sadness and fears we need hope and joy ,, do it as separate advert ..strength and love to everyone going through and been through it right now

I'm in completee bits this hits home for me so much my mum has Alzheimers and she had to go into a care home this year.

5:20 This add is breaking my heart. As someone who lost her husband 3 years ago this month to Alzheimers and finds Christmas difficult enough, this advert is so distressing. I am finding it difficult to type this, and my next message will be to my family, NOT TO WATCH. Please John Lewis, have some compassion for those who are left behind and those who are struggling to cope with this horrible disease.

This advert broke my heart. My mum had dementia and passed away 2016. This advert is to hurtful, whilst i know JL are trying to bring awareness for Dementia showing this advert would also have children crying at Christmas. Please show a more santa and happy children celebrating Christmas.🙏

As someone who lost two parents to Dementia one of which was Vascular and very fast, this the most depressing Christmas Advert I’ve seen. Whist yes it is very real, who wants this much reality at Chrismas #bringbackjoy

To everyone who thinks this is the REAL John Lewis ad, it is not. This is by Sam Clegg as an alternative to the real thing which will once again, no doubt, be filled with false jollity and large happy families having a rip roaring time. Reality is somewhat different for many. Sam Clegg asks that everyone PURCHASES this song (not just watches it) and all money raised goes directly to a dementia charity.

Beautiful advert...Sharing and education is very important not for Christmas and always ❤ Cried all the way through until the end.

It's a terrible disease but this is just not what I want to see for a Christmas advert. In the seventies and eighties the Christmas ads were heartwarming and fun, nowadays there seems to have to be a serious message, how I long to return to those days
