Emory King's Short History of Belize

Emory King was a Belizean historian, author and journalist. He served the nation of Belize in a number of capacities, including as National Film Commissioner.
In 1953, at the age of 22, King and a group of friends sailed south from the United States on a yacht and were shipwrecked off the coast of Belize, due to the barrier reef. After recovering, King elected to stay.
King found work with the ruling People's United Party, becoming especially close to leader George Price, and becoming a columnist/editor for the Belize Times in the 1970s. Also at that time King was named Film Commissioner; he was responsible for bringing several documentaries and films to Belize, working with both the predecessors of Belize's two television stations: Great Belize Television and Tropical Vision Limited. King also had bit parts in several movies produced in Belize, for more see Great Belize Television's article.
King also wrote several books, both historical and personal. Among them are Emory King's Drivers' Guide to Belize, The Great Story of Belize series, and others.
King married his wife Elisa King and had several children, one of whom, Alex, predeceased him. He also had several grandchildren.
King died from complications due to cancer on August 14, 2007 at his home in Tropical Park on the Western Highway, east of Hattieville.

Emory King is a treasure trove of historical knowledge. I clicked here to get a background on the Guatemalan claim to Belize that's working its way through International Court of Justice. It seems Spain was soundly defeated by the British and territory of British Honduras has a completely different origin from the rest of Latin America that should be respected. I love the Belizian people and plan to make it my adopted home. Having Guatemala rule it will ruin its peaceful, freedom loving nature. .

I read his books before going out to do some volunteering work there in 2007 but he was really ill and passed away while I was there. I think it would have been a great meeting as his books are really interesting. However I made many friends in Belize and love the place dearly.

George Price and Emory King. Two good men, and true patriots of Belize. It was Emory whom help the Mennonites when they first came to Belize in purchasing land, for they did not have enough money to purchase the 3000 acres of land in Spanish Town. He helped them with the the financing arrangement with the banks. It is unfortunate that they have both passed away.

The Indians were the original inhabitants, then came the Spaniards then the Englishmen and Europeans. Their was some slavery long ago, but they were few and the slaves were much more free to leave, but most did not because they and the European settlers were terrified of the Indians. The slaves were given weapons in the event of an Indian attach, and the were not shackled for obvious reasons.

The thing about law is inaccurate. Napoleon conquered Spain in 1808, Latin America gain independence between 1810 and 1820.

I think he is trying to say that black people were in Belize before everybody else. The European pushes this narrative because he stole your land. This information is finally coming out. The Belizeans and Black Americans are the same and these are our lands.
