I am 53 and have had a crush on Emmy as long as I can remember. I am a musician and absolutely love soulful country music. The songs that she does are just the perfect melodies and rhythms and harmonies that move my soul. She is an absolutely beautiful woman and her voice is angelic. She is my definition of perfection.

Back in the day when you visited someone you'd look at their record collection. The number of people that had on display with Emmylou as the vocalist, either lead or backing, was amazing. And yes, my crush.

I first saw Emmylou live in the mid-seventies in Madison, Wisconsin. It was a magical experience for me. The Hot Band! I’ve since seen her as many times as I can, but never enough. Her voice, her performance, her whole being, thrills me. I saw her in New York City at a small bar and I was seated less than ten feet from her. It was incredible, as if I had been able to see The Beatles in the sixties in a club. There are many great musicians, but no one like her. I still get goosebumps when I hear her sing.

Just like the sun over the mountain top You know, I'll always come again You know, I love to spend my morning time Like sunlight dancing on your skin And I have never gone so long Just for telling lies to you What you've seen is what I've been There is nothing that I can hide from you 'Cause you see me better than I can Out on the road that lies before me now There are some turns where I will spin I only hope that you will hold me now 'Til I can gain control again Just like a lighthouse, you must stand alone When mark the sailors journey's end No matter, what sea that I've been sailing on I'll always roll this way again Out on the road that lies before me now There are some turns where I will spin I only hope that you will hold me now 'Til I can gain control again Out on the road that lies before me now There are some turns where I will spin I only hope that you will hold me now 'Til I can gain control again Thank you very much

IMHO,Rodney Crowell is one of the most overlooked songwriters and singers in the country. I once saw him,Willie Nelson, and Lyle Lovette on a "Songwriters Special" on PBS,and they were all singing songs one of the others had recorded. When Rodney sang one of Willie's "heartbreak songs",he had Willie crying before the song was half-way over. IIRC,Rodney actually wrote the song, and sold it to Willie to record.

@@davidwest3151 David, I'm pleased you agree. This woman, Emmy Lou Harris, has way too much dignity, however, to have a X of any kind, never mind five X's, associated with her presence. . . . I've spent untold hours in grocery lines, waiting to pay for my groceries. Not once, do I ever remember her being on the cover of any of those newspapers that no "Respectable Fish," would allow it self to be wrapped in. You know, there called "Tabloids." The newspapers that the Royal Family spends their life on. . . . She has too much dignity for those rags, also. X's and dignity are not compatible in my humble opinion.

Thanks so much for finding and reposting this gem. Emmylous response to the feedback alone makes it worthwhile. Only thing I could wish for is to have Linda on harmony.

I like how she was inspired by Joan Baez, wanted to sing folk but then unexpectedly found the purity of country music. She just followed her heart.

This is, surprisingly, the first time that I've heard this version of what is one of my favourite songs of all time. Up until now, the only version I was aware of was by Blue Rodeo on their album Five Days in July. shoulda checked the writing credits!
