Sibling harmonies are one thing. But to write a song that bittersweet and beautiful, and perform it for one of that song's inspirations and characters, at an event where she is being recognized for her life's work, a part of the narrative of the very song your playing? Holy friggin' wow! Not quite sure how they pulled off. Amazing. Talk about rising to an occasion.

Not only do they do all that, and mention her by name, they also throw in a very Emmylou trope which you can hear on the last line of the refrain, where the voice seems to falter and fade. It's also there in the verse, too. Emmylou does that very often, it's almost a signature sound of hers. So they sing a song to her, about her, like her, in her honour.

Drummer helps to make the song laying down a study track. He did a great job. So consistent.

KZread's algorithms have been trying to get me to watch this clip for several years. I have always resisted (being somewhat allergic to forced sentiment and put off by the "Emmylou moved to tears" slug). This afternoon I had one of those YT generated playlists running while I'm getting some work done and the video came up in the mix. Shame on ME for being so tardy to the party and wow. A precious moment and some exceptionally talented "next generation" artists. Brava!

I can’t imagine how heartwarming it is to hear another generation of talented women carrying on your legacy.

Making an artist cry is even greater than a standing ovation. Ladies you picked a great role model.

4:15 😭❤️ Just think, Emmylou also knew the other three legends they are singing about in this song. And they are all passed away now. And Emmylou knew them all very well. As well as being very humbled and touched by this song, it may also be bitter sweet for her hearing it and she probably can’t help thinking about the three friends she lost. Especially Gram Parsons, her former duet partner and very dear friend who died tragically of a drug overdose at a very young age. And all their times past. Incredible times. What a tribute these girls have given to her, to the other three legends in the song, and to the world. What a gift. Beautiful. ❤️

Emmy Lou Harris is from Alabama

I named my daughter after Emmylou in 1997 and she is also now a very gifted singer. I grew up lying on the floor with her record albums and admiring her beauty on the cover while melting to her voice as a young child. Carefree days.

Emmylou Harris looks more beautiful and classy than I think she ever has. The lady is a fine wine that's for certain.

Emylou was always an introvert you can see shes a little shy here. This must mean so much to her, you never forget the intensity of your first love.

The weird old man bobbing with the music next to her is the king of Sweden. :P

Emmylou held it together better than I did. I can't imagine the memories this must conjure up from all those years ago when she was performing with Graham before he was taken too soon.

When you hear the reference to Stockholm and remember these girls grew up so far away from America and were still inspired by Emmylou

Emmy lou is simply one of the best and been around for so many years. Her voice is so special. She's more beautiful now than ever with her silver white hair. And the fact you girls wrote this song in her honor is just awesome! What a blessing that must e been to her! Good job!

Something about seeing Emmylou Harris cry just made me lose it. I was bawling like a little girl seeing her moved to tears. These girls have a lot of talent and it is rare for people their age to appreciate this music like that

And to top it all off....they wrote this in a language they were not born into. I hear no accent at all in their speaking or singing voices. Just absolutely brilliant.

Just saw them in concert in Colorado. They’re great! So cool to see a younger generation paying tribute to those who came before.

The acapella at 4:14 is just pure as the driven snow.

I cry every time I hear this song! I saw Emmylou and Johnny Cash at the Telluride Bluegrass Frstival with my Dad. He passed away kat August and I cherish those memories with him!

I was fortunate enough to see these amazing young women perform in Austin, Texas. They closed the set with this song. It was a night I will always treasure.

Its got to be like seeing your child do something excellent. These two are the musical grandchildren of artists like Emmylou. The next generations treasuring and honouring you and your legacy. Can't imagine what that must feel like, but I'm guessing wonderful and deeply moving.

This song must bring up so many memories for Emmylou, from her incredible life and career. And of all the greats that shaped her life.

God, that was so beautiful. Can't believe I've never heard of these girls before today.

This has to be one of the greatest co plummets any artist and musician could ever receive. Better than any awards, money, tv spots...anything. To make young people want to follow in your footsteps. What an honor, and she felt it too. Well done.

Doing this in front of someone you have written a great song about and making them cry must be peak life. I can’t think of anything that could be better than a moment like that.

I love this video so much .. I’m 39 now and have two daughters of my own .. I was adopted by a wonderful woman named Roberta ( who was old enough to be my grandmother honestly ) and she showed me Emmy , Dolly , Doris , Johnny and so many other great musicians during my childhood .. and I’m happy to say I’ve shared them all with my daughters who, actually very much resemble these two wonderful lady’s on stage .. we’ve been First Aid fans since they released a Fleet Foxes tribute years ago! Wish my mother was alive to see this performance and my lovely daughters growing up .. I hope she knows how much she’s a part of them, even tho she’s not here with us anymore 🖤 I love you mom, and I still see you everywhere I go 💔

Emmylou Harris is for real and always has been. First Aid Kit recognized that integrity even though they were just kids at the time. Just honesty. No phonies allowed.

If you made Emmylou Harris cry at your song, yeah you can basically carry that forever. Damn.

You can tell how much Emmylou influenced them just listening to their voices and words. They write the most perfect traveling songs that send you into another world.

Emmylou was in the same age like this girls been now, when she lost the love of her life. So I think, that´s what brought her to tears.

Not to mention she probably would have never expected these girls to write such an incredible song in her, or should I say their, honor. I bet it was a very bittersweet and touching moment for her.

@@dejordyball She said she knew true love once. Given she has written two songs specifically about him (Boulder to Birmingham and The Road), an album about their time together (The Ballad of Sally Rose), and numerous other songs that strongly hint about Gram plus she tears up when his name is mentioned, I'm pretty sure he was the one. Almost wish for her sake it wasn't because she has really suffered. They seemed to have an intense musical bond that continues today. She includes music by him in every concert.

@@margaretross9150 Her song Michelangelo is pretty much about GP, just gorgeous check out the song and lyrics. Not a song you write about a long-departed man you once had a purely professional relationship with, imo. But we will probably never know the full story, ELH tells no tales and respects her own privacy. It's all in the songs, actually, you can hear the the truth there.

Seeing Emmylou, with tears in her eyes, surely remembering the love she shared with Gram... so bittersweet. ❤

So so lovely. I was really blessed to see Emmylou and Gram perform at the Quiet Knight back in the 70's. Wonderful tribute to some of the greats. Miss u Gram, Johnny and June..

denise serafini my daddy was in love with emmylou for most of his adult life. She was born in Alabama much like my daddy and me. Funny how my you remember things just by listening to songs. As soon as I heard this song it took me back to my daddy and me. Miss him so much

Sibling harmony is so special, can't beat genetics...Great song.

I'm crying at this sheer, unadulterated magic. Sublime.

This video is pure beauty. It might be the most profoundly beautiful thing humanity has ever produced.

IF there were any justice left in music this is what would be at the top of the country charts week in and out.

Love the song. Love the performance. I don't know much about Emmylou, but I feel I know a part of her now.

What a beautiful song, she had every right to be emotional, thats an honor to have words like that written about you. Emmylou Harris is a class act, always was......

I came to see Emmylou emotional, and then I cried when I saw the King of Sweden not only into it, but moved by it and sharing a special moment with her over it.

Holy God! I just found this and I am in joy and tears at the same time!

Emmylou wasn’t the only one moved to tears.❤️

That was simply beautiful!! I bet in Emmylou's heart, that all her years singing and working, traveling lonley roads, this meant more to her than any award or accolade. To know you have inspired some very talented young ladies like that probably meant the world to her.❤
