    I don't know what's going on in the comment section, but I thought this was a great interview. The book is not supposed to be an answer, it's part of a discussion about society. She reflects over her own role and her own choices, while considering the issues in a bigger picture. Basically, it's how to make informed and conscious choices in a flawed game.

    First of all - This was refreshing to hear someone wanting to understand the root cause of situations than blaming someone. Let's be clear. There is no single answer to any real world problem. We are constantly learning and evolving. The thought of holding someone accountable is very one dimensional. If you're someone simple enough to say that then you do not understand the immense complexity of human beings.

  • @skd116

    @skd116

    You want to live in a world where individuals aren't held accountable for their actions? Where we can just say hey you sexually assaulted someone? You murdered someone? You pushed someone in front of an oncoming train? Oh no problem. You are a complex human being, you contain multitudes, and it is totally cool, keep being you! There are many countries to choose from where people can commit a host of heinous crimes and assaults against those more vulnerable than them and the victims have zero justice or recourse. So yeah, sorry, there is such thing as taking responsibility for your impact on others and without that we would be living in a nihilistic, justice-less and utterly dangerous society.

    this was a very insightful interview where both parties clearly have respect for one another. Great job to both the interviewer and the interviewee! I find it particularly refreshing that this conversation did not lead to an emotional, stigmatized blaming of men or women but rather stayed objective and rational. You can tell by her last answer that she has a clear agenda to work out wherein the problem lies and not who should be blamed. From this short interview it is clear to me that feminist literature has influenced her writing and analysis in just the right way. I am looking forward to reading this book.

    I love how fragile men are about being educated about the history of the behavior of men & the behavior of men. If you need it to be said in a very specific way in order to be educated, you are part of the problem. Women have a right to be angry, to be outraged & its ok for them to feel that. You need to listen more not demand that women say things in just the right way for you to be willing to listen. Its also interesting that you think there is wrong feminism & you need the feminism to be just right for you to agree to read the book. Its pretty gross man.

  • @hasanisikli9761

    @@nicholasschoonbeck6866 first of all, thank you for your answer. I must admit that I am surprised because in no way was I trying to say that women or anyone for that matter NEEDS to talk about their problems in a specific way. Every person is entitles to feel angry and react as they so choose. I did not demand that someone do as I please. I just find it refreshing to hear someone (by their own choosing) talk about this topic rationally. I find it refreshing to hear an interview on a Late Night show deal with a deeper philosophical concept of feminism. Every woman and every man is entitled to deal with and address problems in their own way, I just expressed my support for the way shown in this interview. And while it is true that there is no wrong feminism, there is divisive feminism which excluded black and asian women and their problems and experiences from their theories and papers. Its no preference of mine but an analysis by other feminist thast I simply alluded to in my comment. choosing to not blame someone but rather tackle the culture that allows this behaviour is a rational and frankly not new concept of feminism. Feminism was and is a highly revolutionary field of philosophy focused on emancipation of all people in the end. The keyword in tackling the culture and not the individual is accepting that every person is shaped by their culture and society and in order to change our interactions we need to change the system. I am listening to an approach that I support because it reminds of me of certain works by Judith Butler and Nancy Fraser. (wow this got longer than I expected)

    Before the internet, you had to go to a book store to check if they have the book. If they didn’t then you could have them order it. You couldn’t look up where to buy it, so telling people it’s available wherever books are sold helps inform buyers they should be able to find it wherever, and not just at a specific retailer. The saying predates the internet.

    I am less interested in how models use their bodies for profit than in how many other people's physical and mental labor is used to make the wealthy wealthier in our capitalistic system. Our system seems set up to favor whomever is the best at exploiting resources - not just natural resources but human ones, too. The most ethical people tend to be anti-exploitation, making it harder for them to amass as much power as the best exploiters.

    I get Emily is promoting her book, but Trevor starts the conversation with the word "complicated" and during the whole interview she just says "it's complicated". She barely explained anything about the content of the book. And Trevor doesn't even make an effort to get her to say more...

    Americans and their art of selling BS is really fascinating. She's smart for sure and people are so naive, that's also another sure thing. Just use your hot body as a tool to make you rich and famous in your 20s. Once you become older, use the exact same thing to keep making money but make it sound intellectual this time and most importantly, use the key words 'women empowerment' in everything you say from now on. That's how you impress people with 0 critical thinking 👏

    this is more about the means of production and personal agency from her own personal perspective. she didn't own a lot of photos or portraits of her that exist in the public domain. so i think you're asking the wrong question here but there's definitely some inconsistencies.

    I agree. She's only saying "this is a question, this is a question. I felt like this was the situation but I'm not sure anymore" either she does want you to only get answers in the book or she just wrote a hundred or so page Expose without actually giving her takes and results to any of those questions.
