    I always find it funny how much care people take in restoring items. They usually end up better then new. I have 2 ansonia pompeii one all original and one I restored. The one I restored the paint is perfect. The other, well it has dirt and runs in the paint. Now when I restore a cast iron clock I add all those imperfection into the finish. Enjoyed the video, I looking to get an embury lantern.

    Thank you sir for the video. I've had a lantern kicking around for years and years. I don't know whether it is my dad's or Grandpa's or my Dad might have found it at an auction. It's been sitting on my front porch for about 9 years but anyway my wife and I were sitting on the porch and she asked if I thought that old lantern would work, I told her probably and started looking at it and decided to find a restoration video and yours was the first I come across very informative and showed me a lot! Thank you again!

    I compressed the coil spring using fishing line. I then assembled the top cap (I’m making these names up). I then used an Exacto knife with it’s skinny handle to reach in and clip the fishing line and then removed the line.

    Good source of parts for lamps and lanterns. My Embury has a 7/8” wide wick. To remove old wick, just KEEP turning the wick adjustment until the wick is all the out. New wick feeds back in same way, just turn wick adjuster opposite. Wick should be 6 or 7 inches long. www.lehmans.com/product/clear-globes-for-dietz-d-lite-and-jupiter-lanterns Hope this helps!

    I compressed the spring with twine. Once I got the pieces assembled I inserted an Exacto blade to cut/remove twine. This was just a seat of the pants method. I hate I didn’t video each step clearly. Hope this helps.

    I recently inherited this exact model from my grandfather that just passed away. I would like to refurbish as you did here however there’s a hole in the oil tank on the side at the bottom, just rusted through. I’m new to refurbing and wondering how you would fix this issue in my position? Thanks, great video too!

    So sorry for your loss of a grandfather. Nice that you have a precious memento of his. I have not had to repair a rusty hole in a lantern tank. I know that they can be repaired using a soldering technique. Might check out this KZread: kzread.info/dash/bejne/qKl83K5tXZOXhpM.html

    @@RestorationbyAlabamaCreeks Hi, just have another question about this if you don’t mind- I’m wondering if I fixed this with a patch and solder, or just managed to use only solder, would that devalue the piece in any way? If so do you know what the recommended way would be? Thanks a bunch.

  • @RestorationbyAlabamaCreeks

    @RestorationbyAlabamaCreeks

    I would not think so. These lantern are not exceedingly rare nor are they highly expensive. Most folks would appreciate a functional lantern over a leaky one IMHO.

  • @RestorationbyAlabamaCreeks

    @RestorationbyAlabamaCreeks

    A pin hole would need soldering only. A hold bigger that 1/4” would need a patch soldering in. Again, IMHO.

  • @RestorationbyAlabamaCreeks

    @RestorationbyAlabamaCreeks

    Жыл бұрын

    The interior of the tank was not rusted nor rusted thru. If it was rusted I’d fill up with Evapo-Rust and let it soak for 24-48 hours. Then pour out the Evapo-Rust and rinse out the tank with kerosene. Should be good to go.
