Elysia makes a lot of good equipment. They aren’t the most well known manufacturer and they don’t have the widest product catalog but what they do make they do well

Their products are pretty good from what I have tested thus far

I often use this on vocal & drum buses. It adds more texture and character to it.

How does this compare to the Neve 542's? ... Also if you're tracking with all analog gear is there a need for a saturator/thickener? - As i'm looking at a pair of 542's for tracking and drum bus, but am wondering if the UAD ATR-102 can do a similar job for that tape vibe if i'm already tracking with all analog gear.

I am not tracking at all as I am only a mixing studio. The 542's sound better than any tape plugin I have ever heard.

I thought about this unit but went with the 2x Neve 542, still am thinking about it for mid side analog

The Neve 542 are a far better in my opinion.

@@MixingMusicAnalog thanks for the response, mixbus tv said they were sterile, and your opinion on them being not so subtle takes them out the mastering equation for me, love the channel and gems Dave, thanks again

To my understanding, Elysia spun out of SPL and refine some of those concepts. Nvelope = Transient Designer, Karacter = Charisma.

You may be right about that. I never heard that before!

Thanks for the review Dave. To be honest not super impressed with this one, especially compared to some other options out there, specifically the color format in host modules from DIYRE and Louder Than Liftoff. If you have the time and inclination you can build your own DIYRE Color Palette which holds 3 colors for $150. Then you can pick and choose different colors to build, from console style saturation, tape saturation, overdrive and so on. Really fun and cool stuff to mess with, relatively inexpensive, and the coloration the modules add are much more usable over their range (generally more subtle, but some modules are more geared to audio destruction). Check it out sometime if you have never looked at it before, I think you would be intrigued by it.

We did a DIYRE video on this channel last year with their "tape" emulation. I was not impressed in the slightest and I have no desire to start building modules.

@@MixingMusicAnalog I hear you, to each their own especially on building stuff on your own. At any rate, appreciate the time you take to produce these videos and share knowledge. All the best

I think the color adjusts between odd and even order harmonics?
