Listen to Elvis Presley: ElvisPresley.lnk.to/listenYD
Elvis Presley made television and entertainment history with his Elvis, Aloha from Hawaii concert, performed at the Honolulu International Center Arena on January 14, 1973. It was beamed live via Globecam Satellite to various countries, on a delayed basis to approximately thirty European countries and it first aired in America that April 4th on NBC in edited form. The American broadcast version included four "insert" songs that were shot just after the concert. In all, the concert was seen in over forty countries by close to 1.5 billion people, a global ratings smash. Never before had one performer held the world's attention in such a way. Aloha from Hawaii presents Elvis Presley at the pinnacle of his superstardom, giving one of the most outstanding concert performances of his career.

Lyrics:
And now, the end is near
And so I face the final curtain
My friend, I'll say it clear
I'll state my case, of which I'm certain
I've lived a life that's full
I've traveled each and every highway
Oh, and more, much more than this
I did it my way
Regrets, I've had a few
But then again, too few to mention
I did what I had to do
And saw it through without exemption
I planned each charted course
Each careful step along the byway
But more, much more than this
I did it my way
Yes, there were times, I'm sure you knew
When I bit off more than I could chew
But through it all, when there was doubt
I ate it up and spit it out
I faced it all and I stood tall
And did it my way
I've loved, I've laughed and cried
Had my fill, my share of losing
And now, as tears subside
I find it all so amusing
To think I did all that
And may I say, not in a shy way
"Oh no, oh no not me
I did it my way"
For what is a man, what has he got?
If not himself, then he has naught
To say the things he truly feels
And not the words of one who kneels
The record shows I took the blows
And did it my way
The record shows I took the blows
And did it my way

I was actually at that concert. My mother was a huge Elvis fan. We were on vacation in Hawaii in January of 1973 (Christmas gift to the family from my father) and my mother took me. Even though I was only 6 years old, I’ll never forget it.

Paul Anka wrote this song for Sinatra, and it sounds like the King went a little heavy on the speeders before covering this epic tune, but hey- Kings do as they please. The Chairman of the Board always said that Vic Damone had "the best pipes in the business" it's a shame that Vic never put his shine on this one.

WOW. I'm sitting here with tears in my eyes. As a child I used to think "Why do people go on about Elvis so much?" But now aged 46 I understand what people see in this man (and still do) Elvis is a man I would have loved to have met. Not because of his music. But because of the man he was. What I'm most proud of is that I found a liking of Elvis in my own time and not because anyone told me too. He died too young and for the wrong reasons. I'm now a fan for life. I think we should all take a moment and be thankful to who invented the video camera. Because of this we have these great performers and performances for all time.

Elvis was born into a social economic environment that had much hardship yet its environment, culture - often blues and black music amongst others, inspired him, influenced him. Along with a parent that gave him unconditional love and a massive desire on Elvis part to want a better life for himself and his mum drove him on to be the entertainer he was. The sky deity thing/reference has no connection here.

I was 4-years-old when this concert aired, and I remember it vividly. My Dad always had Elvis playing on the record player, so I knew all of the songs. Over the years, I learned to sound like Elvis. While in college, I sang this song at karaoke one night. Most karaoke sound systems are mediocre at best, but this system was amazing. During the climax towards the end of the song, I noticed that many people were standing on their tables with lighters lit. That was a surreal experience.

I'm 60 years old and I know all musical styles. I've been listening to Elvis since I was 10 years old. I watched the live concert of Elvis in Hawaii 1973. I appreciate any kind of good music. I also know all the songs by Johnny Cash and June Carter (Great). However, Elvis remains the greatest musician and entertainer of all time. He implied all the power of his soul in all his songs. One could almost say: he gave away his whole heart to his listeners. So, in that way, this is definitely unique.

Louise Hazeldine that is for real. Your comment makes no sense. He didn’t use autotune because it didn’t existed, he didn’t lip synced because it didn’t exist yet either and he didn’t need it. Actually plenty of artists today doesn’t use Autotune neither lip sync. Lady Gaga, Beyoncé, Adele, Bruno Mars & the list goes on, so what’s your point? And he had no competition, on his genre of music, for sure. That in its nature is something not many could achieve in HIS era, and in this era either... But the real meaning of your comment is probably that “artists these days suck” which is stupid because in the 70’s, 60’s and all the way back there were plenty of artists who sucked, but you know why nobody knows them? Because they’ve been forgotten as time passes and in those times with lack of technology and social media it was almost impossible to take off a music career. In 50 years from now all those artists which you consider to suck will be as forgotten as dust and people will just recall the legends just like it have been happening in the past decades.

Anyways, Paul anka wrote the English version thanks to Claude François creating the song in the first place. BTW Comme D'habitude means "as usual" or "like always" where Claude François explains his lifestyle kind of, his regrets also.. So my way isn't that different when it comes to It's meaning. It's just more individual.
