Best version of this song... His vocal is so technically & emotionally perfect, better than the studio recording. Anyone who says Elvis' mid-70's performances were all bad is nuts! He's sober & intensely into the real sentiment of this lovely song. his vocal says it all... Elvis, we love you...

i love this song too. so I think it's a shame that the studio recording isn't that perfect. but there was a reason. If I remember correctly, the recording studio was broken into shortly before and all the microphones were stolen. elvis didn't want to postpone the recording and didn't want to wait until they got new microphones. Elvis recorded the song with a microphone that was not suitable for this technique. I find that very unfortunate.

It's too bad that they didn't have the drug rehabilitation centers that exist now. I think that if he would have gotten off of the drugs, they would have stood a chance...I know from experience how difficult it is to be in a relationship with someone who is addicted. I think she made the only choice that she could for her daughter's sake. I think she still loved him though.

I think he loved her, but I don’t think he was the one and only true love Elvis had. Many people don’t know that after Lisa Marie was born, Elvis and Priscilla, never “slept” together again. What kind of a relationship is that? If Priscilla was his one and only true love he would have worked through the “no sex” issues, and maintained a real marriage.

i think he felt very upset by her leaving him. Sad times for both but especially him.

It's bittersweet but in a way Priscilla is returning the same love to him now that he is gone by keeping his legacy alive and making sure that his biggest fear that is being "forgotten" never becomes reality. That to me is the biggest proof of true and strong love.

The Story of the Song 'Its Midnight.' Jerry Chesnut Remembers (May 7, 1931 - December 15, 2018) was an American country music songwriter. Billy Edd Wheeler, a fellow Hall of Fame songwriter friend of mine, and I were at a golf tournament at Henry Horton State Park. He told me he had an idea for a song, but since it was to be a love song and he was basically a story teller, he needed help writing it, and asked if I would be interested. I agreed to write it with him, something that at this point in time I had never done before. I got a guitar, and while he drove back to Nashville we worked on this song. By the time we got to Nashville we had whipped it out. Later, Billy Edd sang the demo of it and I sent it to Elvis by Lamar Fike. Elvis recorded it and it was an Award Winning Record, the first of several of my songs he did. In the book, 'The Life Of Elvis Presley', Charlie Hodge one of Elvis' closest friends stated that Elvis loved playing games, but at other times his mood often changed to deep depression, like the time Priscilla and a friend went to see him perform in Las Vegas, after their divorce. It was 1974 and she came with a girlfriend says Charlie. They sat in the booth Elvis always reserved for her and when he spotted them, He sang Priscilla's Favorite song 'It's Midnight'. He walked to the edge of the stage, looked at her, and tears were streaming down his cheeks. He was all broke up. She was the only girl he really ever loved. ✨♥️

Saphire Blue Absolutely not, it was closing night and she had Lisa with her, Elvis always liked them there on either or both opening night and closing night in Vegas, it was very civil and of course they had both really moved on, it was over 2 years since they separated, and I think they remained friends, Elvis had left Priscilla as a husband, way before she left him...just the way it was....

Elvis gave more than he got, he gave every poor boy in American and in some places across the world a dream, a dream that they too could do what he did, many of us laided awake at night listening to him singing and thinking if Elvis could do we could, Elvis never gave up his dream,and when he made it he shared it, all that he acquired with his friends and even people he didn't know, and the one thing he really believed in was GOD.But in the end I believe that he missed his mother and wanted to be with her very much so.

@Garry Ellison I understand your anger, I too don't understand why she didn't give him a second chance. But she knew him young, and she got married early. I don't think she would have thought about getting a divorce before, you know.

@@Ornelis__ It would take some kind of special woman to ever stay with him. He was always involved in cheating on his wife and, deep down, she knew he was up to it. Some women can't take it.

I always felt & will continue to feel that Elvis surely loved Priscilla & she sure loved him & continues to love him till her death & beyond❤❤

Elvis truly love Prescilla this song speaks volumn of how he felt. By all accounts he never got over the divorce kept a torch for her until he passed. I greatful they still remained friends they were beautiful together. Thank you Prescilla for keeping his legacy alive

@@PauloPereira-jj4jv If she didn't love him, why did she buy a house 10 minutes away from his in LA so he could see his daughter after the divorce? Why did she save his house when it would have had a wrecking ball to it? All the memories with him, gone. If she didn't love him, she wouldn't have left. The other girls would have stayed for Elvis the king of rock and roll. She left out of pure love for Elvis, not the king. I could go on and on for days, but I think that's enough.

@@skel760 he NEVER introduced Gingerbread, Aka Gingersnatch at any concert as his fiancé? His so called engagement had never been publicly discussed!! He called her his girlfriend only! At his last concert he introduced her as girlfriend ONLY! He never intended to marry her. She was set to be kicked out the day he died. He was supposed to leave that day and he wanted her gone when he got home. He was taking a new girl with him on tour name Alicia.
