Elvis Presley 1967 - Circle G, marriage to Priscilla, Hollywood and Thunderbird Lounge party. This is the latest in my potted history of Elvis Presley and his career, concentrating on videos compiled from our 2017 and 2019 visits to Memphis and surrounding areas. 1967 started with Elvis' latest obsession - horses and the life of a rancher. He was able to live this out for a while after purchasing Twinkletown Farm, which he renamed Circle G. His latest fad caused a delay in his next film obligation, Clambake, when he claimed saddle sores prevented him from working! Soon after completing Clambake Elvis married Priscilla Beaulieu at the Aladdin Hotel in Las Vegas. Summer was spent filming Speedway, quickly followed by Stay Away, Joe. But he still had time for recording sessions at Studio B in Nashville. Elvis finished the year with his now regular New Year's Eve party, this time held at Ernie Barrasso's Thunderbird Lounge on Adams alongside the Victorian Village in Memphis.
Sources of information have been gathered since I was 12 years old!! Some (but not all) sources include books by Peter Guralnick, Ernst Jorgensen, Pal Granlund, David English, Erik Lorentzen, Alan Hanson, Paul Richardson and Keith Flynn. Websites include elvisinfonet.com, elvis.com/au, historic-memphis.com, and the fascinating stories and information contributed by so many to the sites, and magazines Elvis The Man and His Music and Essential Elvis. Also the Memphis locations books Elvis - Memphis Style by Mike Freeman and Follow Me To Memphis by Andrew Hearn.

After buying one for Priscilla as a Christmas present, riding horses becomes the latest obsession for Elvis.
By early February 1967 he has purchased over 20 horses, and spent heavily on accessories, including refitting the barn to house the horses.
8 February 1967 Returning home from another horse-buying trip, Elvis sees a 60ft white cross on a property called Twinkletown Farm.
Elvis will call it Circle G Ranch
So we're here now at Circle G Ranch.
Elvis bought Priscilla a horse and he also bought a horse for a member his entourage - Jerry Schilling, his girlfriend Sandy Kawelo he bought her a horse as well so that she could go riding together with Priscilla,
Elvis had a horse, he bought Jerry Schilling a horse
In February 1967 Elvis bought Circle G.
This is the honeymoon cottage Elvis and Priscilla spent time in.
21 February 1967 Elvis reports for his medical for his next movie 'Clambake'.
Elvis was staying here around the time he was due to go start filming the movie Clambake and he was having such a good time here that he pulled a 'sickie' basically and that was Elvis's first meeting with Dr.George Nichopoulos
And of course from that point on Dr.George Nichopoulos became a big part of Elvis's life.
The new owners defaulted and the ownership reverted back to Elvis until it was finally sold again in 1973. So it was only a brief period of his life but, especially by Priscilla, it's looked back very fondly as a very happy time.
1 May 1967 Elvis and Priscilla are married at the Aladdin Hotel in Las Vegas.
4 May 1967 Elvis and Priscilla fly home to Memphis and head for Circle G. However, in the evening they head for the Memphian cinema.
As mentioned, the novelty of the ranch has already started to wear off, and Elvis spends most of the month he is at home at his usual haunts, The Memphian and Memphis Fairgrounds.
29 May 1967 Elvis and Priscilla dress in their wedding outfits, and hold a second reception for family and friends excluded from the wedding in Vegas.
10 September 1967 After 2 weeks at home, he is back at Studio B in Nashville.
Over the next 2 nights Elvis will record singles tracks 'Guitar Man', 'Big Boss Man', 'You Don't Know Me', 'Hi-Heel Sneakers', 'You'll Never Walk Alone', and 'We Call On Him'
1-2 October 1967 He is back at Studio B in Nashville to record 3 songs for his next movie 'Stay Away, Joe'.
In the basement of this building here on Adams was the Thunderbird Lounge.
The Thunderbird Lounge was started by Ernie Barrasso who worked at Hulls-Dobbs Ford Thunderbird car dealership, hence the name the Thunderbird Lounge, He met Elvis first of all when he sold him the car, and he had aspirations to be a nightclub owner
so he opened the Lounge here in the basement in 1965
and Elvis held his New Year's Eve party here in 1967.
An impressive lineup of artists including Ronnie Milsap and Sam and Dave played here.
So Elvis had two New Year's parties here in '67 and '68.

Good to see the circle G Range again seen it a few times. But this was the best video on it. Shame he lost interest in it. Maybe the cost was getting to much, paying this and that for the hangers on. Again thanks for the upload that was a Gooden.

Again, thanks for watching!😊👍👍 It's a shame the house is falling apart. When putting this together I was looking at pics I took on our 2011 trip and it was shocking the deterioration to this vid (from my 2017 trip). Went passed again in 2019 but looked exactly the same. 😔

@@OceanHops I'm sure the EPE could do it up. Because the fans would love it. But if its in private hands now they won't sell it unless they get loads more money than its worth. But it's still part of Elvis history and you just can't leave it to eventually fall down.

Nature always offer solace, a peaceful sanctuary. The songs of nature in all that is therein bring tranquility, when it is free from the plow of human hands...President Theodore Roosevelt loved the wilderness of Africa and authored ''the preservation of nature's parks'' as a national heritage. It is in nature that we can feel 'the beauty of creations' of God, nature lovers have deep and idealistic minds.

Thanks Sean. Yes that Sept session was musically a success even if it didn't provide the big hits he was needing at the time. Along with Roustabout, Speedway is one of the first films I remember watching on tv as a child. 🙂

I've not heard of that maggieshome, but that's not to say it didn't happen! Of course, the most famous time he disappeared on his own was in 1970 leading up to his meeting with Nixon. He flew alone to Washington before flying back to LA to pick up Jerry Schilling and flying back again to Washington, meeting Sonny West, and then meeting Nixon at the White House!! But that was after Vernon and Priscilla 'told him off' about his extravagant spending rather than people using him for money 😊😊. Thanks for watching and commenting👍

Hi J RC. I'm not surprised he needed the money when you look at the list of horses, trailers, pick-ups, ranch equipment etc etc 😄. Priscilla certainly gets mixed views from fans, and I think she shouldn't get involved in the music catalogue side of things, but yes I think Elvis loved her and she certainly saved Graceland and increased the estate's worth!!
