ELVIS Acoustic Medley - with downloadable, play-along song sheet - Jez Quayle

Музыка

I hope you enjoy this medley of 5 of my favourite Elvis, rock 'n' roll songs.
If you'd like to learn this medley or strum along with me, a song sheet containing the lyrics and chords I play can be viewed or downloaded from my songbook blog here: jezquaylesongbookhome.files.w...
Although I use a mix of simple open chords (A, D, E, G, C, and Em) and rock 'n' roll riffs (in place of some chords), the songs in this medley still sound great when played with just chords. If you're not familiar with the moveable D9 and barred A7 chords I use in the song 'Party', it's okay to replace these with plain open chords (D or D7 and A or A7) ...Elvis did!
I teach the riffs and strumming patterns you can see me playing here in my Tutorials #1, #4, and #5. These can be accessed (for free), alongside many more of my other rock 'n' roll guitar tutorials here: • Rock and Roll / Rockab...
If you'd like to buy a copy of my latest guitar chord songbook, 'The Hot Rockin' Hundred', which contains 100 classic songs from the early days of rock 'n' roll and rockabilly, it's available around the world from Amazon (paperback), and from Lulu.com (paperback, coil bound or eBook (pdf)).

Wow, thanks very much Kelley! I'm heading over to the US again next month to visit several places where rock and roll history was made (Lubbock, Texas; Clovis, New Mexico; Clear Lake Iowa; and Memphis Tennessee). It's a long shot, but if you fancy a day in Memphis (Sunday 19th Nov.), it'd be great to meet up. I know Americans think nothing of a 4 hour drive 😏

Zez - I love your teaching of these songs and medleys. I am wondering if you could do a lesson on the little licks, fills, slides, Triads, you use in all your songs. You don't seem to teach all of them? I may be wrong but it would be interesting to many of us who love how you teach.

Thanks very much Mark. I’m not sure which extra licks and things you mean. I’m happy to teach anything I know though. If there are some in this medley, let me know where they are (give the time position). I’ve been playing guitar a long time, and many things I do, I do without thinking. 👍

It's nice to see you play only with an acoustic guitar. You can also see that you enjoy it, and that's the most important thing. All the best.....................Hendrie

I love how it’s possible to play these songs and make them work on just one acoustic guitar. It’s portable music! 👍😁 I’m pleased that my enjoyment comes across in my videos. All the best, Jez

Another winner Jess. I've never heard a medley of Elvis with these songs together before here on KZread. I'm going to be watching this one a lot. I already watch the older videos of Little Queenie and Sweet Little 16 frequently over the years. I love the acoustic arrangements and vocals.

@@RocknRollSongbook Sort of. You need to practice, to remember the routines and effects. Methods and storytelling involved in the routines presented. It is often like music. But music is a lot of eye hand coordination that can be of a different motor function. Inspiration applies to both, for learning and skill development.

I have noticed you play mostly Gibson guitars? Do you feel they give you the most rock and roll sound?

  • @RocknRollSongbook

Hi Glen. To be honest, I think you can play great sounding rock 'n' roll on any make of guitar. I use Martins and Taylors as well as Gibsons. I really like the Gibson L00 Studio I'm playing in this video when I need to plug in, and I love the sound of my L00 Standard when playing acoustically. I use heavier gauge string on the Standard than on the Studio. I swap and change between my guitars when making videos depending on the guitar technique I'm using. For example, one guitar may be too loud and boomy for open chord strumming, but is just right for bass string riffs. Another guitar (e.g., my Taylor GS Mini) may sound a little thin for bass riffs, but has a great zingy/jangly strummed sound. Sometimes I change between my guitars just cos I fancy a change though ...a long answer to a short question! 😊👍

Jez...I have your 50 songs from the fifties book. Do these songs repeat in your 100 song book?

  • @RocknRollSongbook

Hi Kevin. All of the songs in the Fifty from the Fifties songbook are included in the Hot Rockin' Hundred songbook, but the versions in the newer songbook are arranged in a greater variety of keys. All of the sons in Fifty from the Fifties were arranged in the keys of A and E, so that only four chords (E, A, D & B7) are needed to pay them. You'll need more chords under your belt to play songs in the newer songbook - Jez
