His vocals are incredible for a live performance.

This performance was two months before the album was released, so this is likely the first time anyone in the audience is ever hearing this song.

It baffles me how amazing he is at piano. Most pop singers can play chords with maybe a bit of rhythm. Sir elton can play it like a pro with very interesting ideas surrounding chord patterns all while singing

Of course, all three of them started as pianists (Aretha used to accompany her father' Gospel choir) and added singing later. How about Leon Russell? Pianist with the wrecking crew.

I turned 60 in April and i was 10 when this was recorded and i appreciate it more now than i did then--and it was my favorite song then. What a treasure Elton John is, not a local or national treasure--a priceless historical artifact for humanity.

In my opinion I think Rocket Man is about Elton’s feelings at the time.

Not only is the voice in this live performance perfect, at the same time he plays the piano perfectly. My absolut respect for this masterpiece.

Gawd, there is NOTHING like listening and seeing the legends from their early performance, so pure, yet the sound quality and vocals WITHOUT AUTOTUNE are amazing. There were so many talented people in the time before electric fake auto tune music destroyed real music. Very few people can sing live on stage and maintain the pitch and tone like EJ, plus write his own music (with the amazing lyrics help from Taupin). Makes me so sad, these legends are fading with no one to replace them. I remember seeing EJ live in the 90s on tour with Billy Joel (another legend) and Elton sounded exactly the same then as he did from this 1972 performance. God bless musicians! I've always been in awe of real musicians and how they come up with the music.

I feel like it’s more of a neutral ending. A “good” ending could have been basically the same, but instead Elton does not lose his vocal range and has his voice age normally. Not saying it was necessarily a bad thing his voice deepened in 1986, but for the sake of the “good ending” meme, that seems more appropiate.

I was 18 in 1972, and it just occurred to me that Elton has changed quite a bit over the years. What a talent. Both Elton and Bernie.

This makes me misty... his voice so clear, the piano sounds so brilliant, his smile. Perfection.

Elton John had the most beautiful timbre of all tim before his throat surgery. That's why he became a superstar all over the planet and 5 billion people didn't.

I was 17 when this was recorded and I was madly in love with Elton John. Fifty years later and guess what? I am STILL in love with Elton John. Seen him live five times over the years. He just gets better and better.

The biography of Elton John in this movie Rocket Man, touched my heart in an inexplicable way, I felt an inner sanction, that when we got to the car with my wife I started crying and I felt my chest sink. I do not compare myself in any way with this great man, but my childhood is marked by rejection and contempt. Thank God look at this great movie.

I built a sound system in my home and a theater system, spent 30k. When I listen to this song it's hard to explain how good it sounds. I can her eltons lips part between words. It's hard to listen to him and not get emotional. One of the greatest musicians of all time, a true gift to humanity.

This was recorded two years before I was born. Three weeks ago I heard him perform this live in Cork and I'll be damned if the vocals weren't as good, if not better! Elton John, International Treasure.

There's no way... He's the one and only, our eternal ROCKETMAN ! Sir Elton John, the soundtrack of my entire life since 1972. Blessings to him.

Same to me , Wagner ! Rocket Man was the first song to capture my ears ans sense about Elton's music style, in August 1972 !

I already like a lot of his songs but after watching the movie I have a whole new level of respect for him and Bernie...

me too.The movie drew me to becoming a fan 😂 before watching it I literally only knew Rockeetman and I'm Still Standing

I just stumbled on this version of the song and it is amazing. He sounds like he is in the studio. Perfect.

Pretty unreal how good he and the band sound here

Elton is a true legend! I’m so thankful that I grew up listening to his music. A beautiful piece of the world of music will die with this legend. ❤️❤️

My wife and I had the privilege of seeing this "GREAT" musician perform a few years ago. Two and a half hours of his music and it wasn't ENOUGH!!! Thanks Sir Elton John for "ALL" the years of your music. It is "UNTOUCHABLE"!!!

With the greatest respect for this very talented man , I feel his best music was before he became a pop star , the early music is pure magic . This live shows how amazing he is .

Best live performance I've ever heard. What a masterpiece.

I saw Elton live around 2008, and he played a 10 minute version of this song. It was out of this world!

Nigel Olson on drums is incredible. A very underrated drummer. As Elton’s time keeper he was fantastic.

Impeccable.

Cracking performance from everyone involved. Easy to underrate Dee's bass and Nigel's drumming, but they are brilliant -- and then they contribute the great backing vox as well. Classic song, legendary performer, excellent band. This is fine stuff.

Wish I had taken my late Father to see Elton before he passed😢

Just seen the movie and my eyes burned with tears sometimes; other times I felt like jumping up and dancing; mostly, I felt really happy watching a great movie with an actor who really touched my heart. Now I can't get enough of Elton's music.

The late great Dee Murray on bass, Nigel Olsson on drums and the uber talented Davey Johnstone on guitar. This band had a huge impact on me as a musician.

I'm 63 grew up with his music. I was playing a collection of Eltons hits one afternoon and my neighbor in apartment next door asked who the singer was. Now Elton has a new fan aged in her early 20s

I'm not sure who the sound engineers were at this live concert and for this recording but they did a fantastic job. Elton and Bernie at their finest, and an incredible performance from the Rocket Man.

i just LOOOOVE elton john's sense of fashion. That sequinned purple jacket is everything.
