I was there: This concert was on March 25, 2007 on the occasion of Sir Elton’s 60th Birthday. It was one of the great privileges and most memorable occasions of my life.

I saw him in LA in 1993 doing his tour to launch his album the one. He played simple life and then went straight into empty garden - it is the only time I have ever been reduced to tears like that at a concert. It is one of the finest songs ever written

I was one of those people that heard about it on Monday Night Football from Howard Cosell's lips. [A great sports personality, btw, irrespective of what many say]. it was on free Network TV at the time; ABC ch 7, in the NYC area. I went numb inside.. This Tuesday, it will be 40 years that the great John Lennon has been gone.

Elton has so many great songs! I tend to forget until I see the title then BAM! Brings me back to the announcement of Lennon’s assassination. Thank you Ty. Too many favorites. One song that hits me...Someone saved my live tonight. Very raw song, recorded during a time Elton was struggling mentally with too many issues, just like we all do.

Elton's early 1980's work is sadly overlooked/forgotten because he wasn't working with Taupin & he wasn't having the big singles success like he did in the 1970's. The Fox is a great album.

This song always gives me goosebumps. When I first heard it, I didn't realize it was about John Lennon. PLEASE listen to John Lennon's "Imagine". I have SO MANY favorites of Elton John, "Funeral for a Friend", "Don't Let the Sun Go Down On Me", "Rocket Man", "Sacrifice", "Harmony", "Your Song", "Take Me to the Pilot", "Tiny Dancer", "Captain Fantastic", "Goodbye Yellow Brick Road", "Levon", "Mona Lisas & Madhatters". I've seen Elton John at least 8 times in concert. I have to find this video you had and add it to my favorites.

This is a song I told my dad to play over and over again. There was always something about this song I loved, even before I knew what and who it was about. As I grew old enough to understand, my appreciation for it only deepened. I am connected to my dad by this song and I feel Elton’s loss as well. It makes me happy to have someone else listen to it because I have loved this song since I was a kid. Thank you, Renaissance Man. Thank you from my dad as well.

Idky but I heard this song as a pre-teen and had no idea what it was about but it made me cry every single time I heard it and I have no idea why... it's good to know the meaning behind the story for me as well, even if I didn't grow up knowing the Beatles or John Lennon other than by name

@@stephaniewade2973 It is one of those songs where you have to delve a little deeper into the meaning of the lyrics, rather than take at face value. I know that it is a song that Elton only performed in Madison Square Garden just because it had such a personal significance to him. It is where he got John Lennon to perform with him on stage before his death. Aside from the song's intended meaning, it will always hold deep meaning for me as well because of what it meant to my dad and it is such a poignant memory of the two of us that I have. It is for these reasons that this song is my favorite Elton John song.

Originally released in 1982 and written by the one who gave life to the Disney's The Lion King soundtrack. Yes, I'm talking about Sir Elton John, which along with Bernie Taupin had penned dozens of greatest hits in Elton John's music career. This song gives a bitter chill look following Lennon's death in 1980. Sad day for all his fans. (I'm not mad if you never went into The Beattles music. You are still cool!)
