The things we learn while exploring in space will in fact teach us more about our planet.

This is significant. It is no longer a debate society. Governments were the sole proprietors of space travel. Now, space is getting to a point of viable returns. And as technology improves and costs go down, people could opt for space station living and travelling to other places beyond Earth is beyond words. I'd love to be able to see the solar system... a tetra watt plasma drive with a 25 story biosphere. a flying castle that could reach anywhere... that's a dream I'd love to live.

There is a financial gain from going into space not just in resources but in technology spinoffs that happen when we take on these kinds of huge challenges. Many discoveries in the past we did not know how we would benefit from like electricity. Quantum physics led to cell phones and everything around you tha you rely on today in terms of tech is a result of a frontier like space exploration. That seems to be hard for some to understand.

Then we should start treating and protecting Earth like the precious island of life that it is. At the moment life itself has all its eggs in one basket, and that basket is the Earth,a tiny and vulnerable home in a vast universe.

@sirachman i was thinking yesterday, if there is such a big resource crisis then the number one aim all governments strive for should be the exploration and colonization of space where we can find so much more fuel of all sorts.

Peter Diamandis says that "we don't have the resources we need to bring everyone in the planet up to the standards of living that we have here in America...." say that to all the people starving to death and dying due to lack of water. Oh wait, yeah because 20% of the population does need 80% of the world's resources... yeah that makes total sense...

24:00 Ive got one for you. Continually expanding human population is the Earth's second worst enemy. Other than asteroid impact but that's another issue. The best things humans could do for Earth is to start moving our new additional human population off-Earth along with samples of the other life that calls Earth home to locations elsewhere.

Starship is not going to happen. You have very superficial knowledge of the market the technology and SpaceX's know how and financial situation if you really think that they will develop and fly a lifting body/ shuttly type reentering ship in the next 20 years. Please educate yourself and stop getting your news from convicted frauds and drug users like Musk.

@@timwalker411 Okay so "no u" answer? I you had any knowledge of the subject you would know that development of a gliding reentry vehicle and it's heatshield costs billions. And the "fuck you science/facts/" approach of actively cooling it with fuel and using steel as a structure makes the design even more absurd. Try arguments next time you demonstrated that you do not only have no clue what you are talking about you are not even interested in a honest conversation about this very complex subject.(like most twitter post reading I-fucking-love-science hipsters) www.google.com/url?sa=t&rct=j&q=&esrc=s&source=web&cd=13&cad=rja&uact=8&ved=2ahUKEwj5sK3QouHhAhWKJ1AKHZ17ANEQFjAMegQIBBAC&url=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.nasa.gov%2Fpdf%2F695726main_ComingHome-ebook.pdf&usg=AOvVaw31rS3nV-0FegyoY9-5AQAb Educate yourself. t. someone who unlike you works in the field Bye not going to waste more time with someone who is driven by wishful thinking and not serious interest in the subject. See you on mars in 5 years with the fully reusable self driving rocketloop. ps: Even if you work at NASA I will bet my ass you have nothing to do with the development of reentering vehicles. Stop being so naive ffs SpaceX is a joke reusability is a pr-gag nothing else.

@@timwalker411 "they’ve already retracted the active cooling for tiles" Oooh Elon made a bullshit claim and backs up? That's something new /s "It’s a living and breathing design" That's not how the LSP industry and spaceflight industry work tho, you release a design when you finalized it. Elon just makes bullshit claims and releases cgi of stuff that will never fly and basically lies to people. "But I assure you spacex will beat nasa to the moon and Mars" Breaking news NASA already did beat SpaceX to Moon and Mars. You should do your homework :)

elons concern about climate is not well founded. rising temperature has always resulted in more life, more food, more weath. Any change always has positives and negatives but temperatures have been rising for centuries and millenia and it has gone down at various times. Life has gotten richer, more prolific with every rise. Why the next 5 degrees would result in disaster is not well thought out. i totally agree though that everything else said is amazing

For start raise of temperatures would mean raise in sea levels. Because there are lots of cities in coast areas or islands, we can guess the consequences. Also raise of temperatures normally changes sea currents shifting some areas to be colder and others to be hotter or drier. This in his own can disrupt economies. Another problems is how quick these changes can appear, when normally takes thousands of years. Raising of temperatures is not going to kill the earth, but will be extremely disruptive for humans. Cities will disappear or will have huge barriers surrounding them, as Venice is building. Other changes can be random. World population is located in more fertile areas. Then if South Europe becomes a desert and Greenland green, we will see huge migrations.
