Got to see Yes and ELO inducted into RRHOF on the same night in 2017. ELO opened the night with a tribute to Chuck Berry, who we had lost the year before. It was a rockin’ night!

I've enjoyed many of your episodes, but was really looking forward to this one. The first concert I attended was Elo and Steve Hillage at the Arena in Milwaukee in early 1977. It was my first laser light show with beams bouncing off the strings of the instruments. Some of my first vinyl purchased was Elo from record riots and Peaches. Never listened much after Out of the Blue, but will look into some of there later stuff. A side note. I belive Roy Wood was married at one time to Anne Haslem of Renaissance. Keep up the great content.

I was familiar with ELO for as far back as I could recall due to FM radio. Tangentially as you said. I never did a deep dive until the pandemic. And now I listen to them probably once a week or maybe every other week. They really helped get me through the crazy pandemic time. So catchy. So unique. Jeff Lynne is a genius. Nice to see you speak about them.

The fade-in intro to “Turn To Stone” gets me amped up every time. It’s like a jet engine of a song that comes roaring in. I think this band is unique in that most of my favourites of theirs are also their big hits which is the sign of a great pop songwriter. Jeff Lynne is a master and even though everyone always talks about his skills as a producer and writer I think they often overlook how amazing his vocals are. He is a fantastic singer!

Long before the critics and gatekeepers began to dissect and categorize music into micro-genres, the definition of progressive music was to push the boundries. Where ELP's cornerstone was as a rock band using classical composition , ELO's mission statement was to play rock & roll incorporating amplified classical instrumentation as a core element of their sound. It's that the latter has become commonplace and pervasive that their contribution goes unnoticed & devalued. While ELO may not fit neatly as "Prog", they helped lay the foundations for what has come since

Mazel Tov to Tara and Cody! Prog has the power to bring people together! Friggin’ awesome, y’all! I’ve been a big E.L.O. fan since l purchased Out of the Blue in 1977, or 1978. Contrary to many Electric Light Orchestra fans, l simply love Discovery. Disco-VERY? Perhaps, but l love it anyway! My other favorite album by the lads is Time. These three albums are my faves by E.L.O. Jeff Lynne is absolutely a musical genius. Keep up the stellar - and interstellar - work! Cheers from The Big Apple. 🍎 Rock Out, Prog On & Pogo! ELO, It's not a band that gets talked about all that often. Which is odd considering what a hit making machine they were. Back in the day I used to think they were more of a singles type band. How wrong I was. They are an album band just like most prog bands, with cool album covers to boot. Needless to say I enjoyed clogging up the chat with my thoughts on an unsung band.

Breaking my usual "one track per album" rule. Mind you, "Out Of The Blue" is a double album on vinyl: 10. 10538 Overture 9. Ticket To The Moon 8. Tightrope 7. Evil Woman 6. Turn To Stone 5. Livin' Thing 4. Fire On High 3. Showdown 2. Can't Get It Out Of My Head 1. Standin' In The Rain

Listening to today's show, I was reminded of the scene from the movie " Ferris Bueller's Day Off ", where the teacher was calling roll: BUELLER ?! BUELLER ?! BUELLER ?! Today, the teacher would have said: TIGHTROPE ?! TIGHTROPE ?! TIGHTROPE ?! A glaring omission... My top ten(some hits): Tightrope 10538 Overture Concerto For A Rainy Day Turn To Stone Showdown Can't Get It Out Of My Head Poker Rockaria Last Train To London Strange Magic Scot showing that ATF album at the beginning....good album folks, worth a listen.

That whole Birmingham scene - The Move, Wizzard, ELO...leaves me largely bored. Jeff Lynne and Roy Wood were excellent tunesmiths and I acknowledge the quality of their material but (sigh) I just can't find anything in it to inspire me. It's simply not my kind of music. However, like that heavy metal episode last Sunday, even though the music genre is not of any real interest to me, the stream itself is interesting. It's also nice to see Tara coupled with Cody to speak on the subject.

ELO for me were always gallant triers but were never as good as The Beatles (who is?) as adventurous as prog or as rocky as metal. The big pop hits (Evil Woman, Mr Blue Sky etc) were decent but I've heard them enough. The biggest disappointment is that their first single - 10538 Overture - was as good as they got and their fourth (Ma-Ma-Ma Belle) would be number two on my list so I see their career as a bit of a gradual decline. I admire Jeff Lynne and ELO but am not in love with them so sorry to spoil this Valentine's episode!
