SPOILERS FOR THE LAST OF US PART II.
“I don't think I can ever forgive you for that, but I would like to try.”
As you all probably know, I'm making only videos about movies and shows. But the story of The Last of Us has always been something that spoke really deep inside of me. And with the release of The Last of Us Part II. I really thought It would be time to try something new, and get out of my comfort zone. I can do nothing but applause every members at Naughty Dog who worked hard on this piece of art.
Thank you all for watching, It's been a while without video, but I'm back on the work and going to work really hard for you guys, as always.
Massive respect to Ash an amazing, caring friend who helped me by collecting the scenes I needed in order to create this video.

The night before Joel died Ellie said she would like to try and forgive him, on the day he died they were going to watch a movie together and rebuild their relationship, it's heartbreaking.

Yeah I really wasn’t ready for that flashback, I thought their fight at the party was it but damn that hurt. Especially since throughout the game I constantly thought about how they were going to watch a movie together, just something so simple and that idea that we never know how long we have with someone. This game made me feel like I lost a loved one, then again I guess I kinda did.

I think a lot of people missed what the actual goal of the game was. It was never about killing Abby, it was about Ellie grieving Joel and getting over his death. During the whole game, Ellie thinks that she will only get that by killing Abby, but it's only at the very end, when she's about to do it that she realizes that it's not.

I think the game is also about understanding the "other side's" point of view, which is obvious in many aspects, but what I think is overlooked is how it relates to Ellie and Joel. We don't see them as enemies, but Ellie didn't agree with Joel's decision to save her. Through losing Joel and going on an exhausting journey to, in her mind, avenge him, Ellie finally realizes, as she is about to kill Abby, that she is mirroring what Joel did at the hospital. Ellie wanted her life to matter by saving people, but to Joel, Ellie mattered more than anyone else. Joel is killed, and now Ellie finds her love and the pain of losing him matters more than any amount of horror she causes and witnesses. She forgives Joel when she sees how destructive she is willing to be for him, as he was for her. Yet where Joel's bad deeds led to saving Ellie's life, the deed of killing Abby will not accomplish anything to help her. The only thing left she can get from Joel is to remember his love and to live a life he would have wanted for her.

As someone with PTSD, I really liked the ending of this game. This is just my opinion, but for me - At the end Ellie was suffering with PTSD, obviously - not sleeping, not eating, the flashbacks, the going off by herself into the woods, and the feeling she HAD to go after abby - is realistic to me. it's difficult to describe anyone without it, but PTSD can often feel like you are physically trapped with no way out of your own reality. That your whole life is closing on you. That the past is forever there, suffocating you. Obviously you relive it through flashbacks, but it's more than that. When Ellie said she had to go after abby, it was because she felt she had to not because she wanted to - She wanted to stay with her new family, but she had to stop her brain reliving the traumatic past again and again. She had to escape the trap, and she felt the only way was to kill abby - the person who really made her feel trapped to begin with. but I think she knew, deep down, it wouldn't help her escape. but hey, desperate times, amiright? When ellie finally confronted abby, what were her words? "I cant let you leave" She could have said anything else "I won't let you leave" or "I'm going to kill you". Those would be words from someone confident, someone making the rules. but she didn't. those words "I can't let you leave" were very specific. they're words from someone not in control - someone who feels they didnt make the decision. A soldier following orders would say "I can't let you leave" or someone feeling like they had no choice in the matter, someone trapped - like ellie. At the very end ellie didnt have to kill Abby. When she was on the verge of killing abby, when abby couldnt fight back and was about to drown, Ellie had basically won at that point. it didnt even matter if abby lived or died past that point, as there was nothing abby could have done to change the outcome, and ellie realized that she probably has "won". And it didn't help. There was no opening of the trap, it didnt fix anything so she let abby go and she wept. still trapped. It wasnt until she came back, sat alone with guitar she could no longer play, and thought about joel and forgiveness that, maybe, she realized that the only way out of the trap was to forgive mistakes of the past. forgive yourself for not being able to change the past. forgive others for being human. I dunno. maybe I'm just seeing what I want to see, see what makes sense to me. But still, I like the ending. People complain about the ending, saying ellie didn't get her revenge against abby. but they miss the fact that everything after the farmhouse - Ellie isnt going for revenge. Shes going because she feels like she has to, to try to fix herself.

As someone who also has PTSD, this comment is very accurate. PTSD is like being stuck in your own personal hell all the time. There is sometimes nothing that can alleviate the pain, the grief, and the fear. Ellie felt her only choice was to try and find some closure by completing the one thing she had been fighting so hard for ever since she lost Joel. She had been single mindedly searching, hunting, fighting, and killing for months, all in order to achieve her goal. Something that is so deeply ingrained into your psyche is difficult to just give up. Ellie truly felt that the only way she could move on (especially after tommy pressured and guilted her) was to live up to the promise she made after losing the ability to reconcile and reconnect with Joel, who has protected her for so long, and was the only one who didn't leave her side, even when she pushed him away. After all, her greatest fear was ending up alone. Joel was the one she felt most comfortable with and she was devasted that her chance to rekindle their relationship was taken away. I can't wait for TLOU3 and I truly hope Ellie will be able to get some closure and start a journey of healing and recovery. In the first game, she is a spark of joy and light in a dark world... It would be amazing if she could be just as bright again.

What I have understood from the game (SPOILERS): Ellie identifies herself with a moth (shown in her diary and in her tattoo) because she "looks for the light" and Abby is a "Firefly". Without words to describe the enormous amount of symbolism. Joel is killed so soon with the intention of understanding Ellie's feelings and feeling her hatred throughout the story, which seems very original to me when it comes to empathizing with her. Ellie just can't draw Joel and Abby's eyes in her diary. Abby has the same gameplay mechanics as Joel plus her relationship with Lev is very similar to that of Ellie and Joel. Abby feels empty because of Joel (because she has nightmares with her father just when we started playing with her when she saves Yara and Lev dreamed of her father smiling at her and then she stopped having them, Ellie however continued to have them and they were getting worse ) that is why she saves Lev and Yara who are her enemies just like Joel was (since she could not do this with her) meaning that she wants to advance, turn the page and improve as a person by herself. When he decides not to kill Dina and Ellie does it for Lev, showing us that when you want to advance the others are a support to do it, in addition to that if he kills them, the only friend he had left would lose Lev realizing in time the gravity of the cycle of death. revenge. The same thing happens to Joel with Ellie, he changes thanks to her since your family and friends are the ones that make you happy and therefore make the best of you, that's why he looks so different with Ellie than he was in the past, that's why he helps Abby. Because now she is happy. This shows us that there are neither good nor villains, only bad situations and therefore they are PEOPLE. Ellie decides a second time to go kill Abby ignoring Dina's pleas not to. Abby unlike Ellie when Lev told her to leave Dina and Ellie she did. So Ellie realized too late that revenge doesn't lead anywhere by being alone, however Abby doesn't. Ellie spares Abby's life because deep down she sees Joel in her (that's why she can't actually draw their eyes in the diary she says that her gaze is very important to her) symbolizing that she forgives him. That is why he remembers him just before finishing her, in addition to the fact that he is also forgiving himself for not having forgiven him for the hospital and for having a fight the last time he spoke to him (which is seen in his diary and the flashbacks at the end). In the end Ellie understands what Joel did at the end of the first game since she lost herself after losing him as she says in the song that she does not stop singing with the guitar to remember him. Another detail is the fact that Abby carries Lev the same way as Joel carries Ellie and only sets out to fight when Ellie tries to kill him just like the Fireflies did to Ellie. It is curious that both games are about going to look for the Fireflies to "look for the light", in the first for Joel and in the second for Abby and Ellie.

I just think they could have done the pacing so much better to make Abby’s side more sympathetic, rather than cramming 10 hours of forced gameplay onto a character everyone despised from the start! Whilst I eventually got round to kind of empathising with her after she loses all her friends, I think it was largely the endless fatigue of constantly playing as her thqt did it for me haha. And everyone was grimacing when she went back the second time. But ultimately both games were about grief (for Joel about Sarah, Abby for her father, Ellie for Joel) and then I agree that in the end it was about forgiveness. (It was also about love and suffering, and loss and hope and hopelessness etc etc. such great writing about the human condition.

The most saddest part of this game, is that Ellie's biggest fear of ending up alone became true, and the part that Joel telling Ellie he would do it all over again if he had a second chance. “But... I’d like to try.” “I’d like that.” You get it. This video gets it. Two games, one story. These two characters lived full lives in their short time together and came to mean the world to each other, to be the world for each other. The loss of a child, the loss of a parent, being consumed by rage, and wrestling with what it means to forgive the sins of a loved one and yourself... that’s what this story is all about, and this video captures Ellie’s life beautifully. I’m watching my 21-year-old daughter’s first play-through of Part II, and she’s devouring every aspect of the story without judgement or demand of where she thinks it should go. For me, having already finished it, a deeper layer of brilliance is revealed in watching it a second time, now that I have the full narrative and structure in my head. It makes Ellie’s actions all the more tragic knowing these characters she’s cutting down to get to Abby. If there’s a more deserving game for all the GotY awards, then it should get them, but if this is the one, I hope the industry heaps its praise and affirms Naughty Dog’s ambitions. It would be the greatest middle finger to the haters who can’t see how beautiful it all is. Out of respect, if you’ve played the game and simply didn’t like it, then that’s okay, too. But the venom directed at the creators and fans is ugly, and they deserve to know how many people appreciate what they’ve made.

The ending is so poetic. Ellie spared Abby, not because she decided revenge was wrong, rather she realized that her hatred for Abby came from a very different place. Ellie hates Abby for ruining her chance to forgive Joel for what he had done. She, like Abby, had tortured Joel in one way or another by pushing him out of her life for what he had done and this haunted Ellie. Ellie never had time to forgive Joel and accept his actions. Ellie viewed killing Abby as a sort of penance that would absolve herself of her own sins against Joel which she had projected onto Abby to remove herself from the guilt. In the end, as she had Abby fighting for her last breaths, she reflects on who Joel really was. She remembers the man that became her family and the good in Joel. She reflects on the night before his death when she made the first step towards forgiveness and acceptance before that came to a sudden halt with his death. She realizes that killing Abby changes nothing and finally reaches deep enough to remove some blame from Abby and place it upon herself. People are confused when they think she forgave Abby because she didn’t in that moment. Ellie forgave herself and Joel. She finally came to terms with Joel’s decision and the fallout that occurred after it. This is clear when she returns to the farm and plays his guitar for the last time. She plays the song Joel played for her when he introduced the guitar to her. “If I ever were to lose you, I’d surely lose myself.” This line reflects both Ellie and Joel’s feelings about their relationship with each other. Joel would’ve lost himself if he left Ellie in the hospital and Ellie lost herself after he died. Ellie restored herself by sparing Abby and maintaining an ounce of the humanity that is so prevalent in Ellie during the LOU1. Every time she strings the guitar I thought of Joel and that special moment we get in the first half of the game. When she plays it for the last time, the song represents the very essence of who she is but this last time it is broken due to the loss of her fingers but also a loss of something much more. The music is symbolizing the restoration of Ellie and her and Joel’s bond but also this new brokenness reveals a missing part of the herself that will always be gone now that she has accepted that Joel is gone. The loss of this important part of her life can be heard through the broken plucks of the guitar strings which sound so tragic after hearing that beautiful rhythm throughout the game. It is such a tragic and beautiful message of coming to terms with loss and finding forgiveness within. It’s a shame that people do not understand the ending and simply confine it to “revenge is bad.” It is so much more than revenge and hatred. It’s about love and forgiveness. Personally, I think Joel would be proud that Ellie found herself through forgiveness rather than following through with revenge. He sacrificed humanity since he believed they had no cure for their inhumanity. Joel found the missing humanity in Ellie, and she proved him right in the end. Lastly, after Ellie strums the last few notes of Future Days, she leaves behind the guitar which symbolizes her new found ability to move forward with her life and assumably returns to Dina in Jackson. This game is a masterpiece.

Beautiful comment ! This game is horrible and beautiful at the same time. It's a true piece of art. Even better than the first one in my opinion. You describe perfectly what I think about the ending and what it symbolize. In the end she finally forgive herself and accept that Joel is gone... But for me she didn't go back to Jackson. For me, seeing her, leaves that way, letting everything behind her, is like a new beginning for her. She'll find a goal, something to fight for. Like Joel says in the end of the first one "No matter what happens, you keep finding something to fight for". I love this game so much, for what he brought to me and hate it at the same time cause it hits right in the feels. I never felt such emotions in any piece of media. I can't get over this game, I finished it 3 times and I'm going into my fourth run when the update comes out. Knowing that if there a Part 3 we'll probably won't see Joël again, hurt pretty well Surely the best experience of my entire life. This game doesn't deserve all the hate it get (thankfully, it's a minority). I think people are upset because this game isn't like any other games or movies/series. It make things different. And Neil knew that, but they did it anyway because it was the story THEY wanted to tell and not the fans wanted. And I respect that. Huge thanks to Neil Druckman and his team for what they achieved. Hope they'll win GOTY they hugely deserve it. Looking forward for a Part 3 some day 🙏 I'm ready to wait another 7 years for another Masterpiece ♥️ I'm sure. This story is so much more than hatred and revenge. To me is hate, love, vengeance, forgiveness, guilt, empathy, redemption and obsession. This game is so much more important than some people think, it speaks to you the player and confronts you with yourself, what would YOU do? Will you let all of this consume you or will you let go? This game spoke to me in a way no other game has and for that it has been one of the best games I've ever played. Is it perfect? No, no game is, not even the first one but it achieved something truly incredible.

Unforgiveness is the worst attitude any person can keep to themselves. No one wins when they’re unforgiving, in the end they lose everything. Even the people we hate the most, even our enemies we must forgive, or else we’ll suffer the inescapable penalty that it comes with, you could lose family, friends, etc... Ellie by being unforgiving has lost it all, now she’s getting the worst of it, being alone. Heartbreaking.

Prachurjya Pradip you misunderstand, you don’t get it do you, it doesn’t just lie with Ellie, it also lies with Abby too, if Abby forgave Joel we wouldn’t have been in this position in the first place, unforgiveness is bad for everyone involved, if Ellie forgave Abby none of her friends would be dead Jessie would’ve haven’t been dead also. Well how does unforgiveness lead to these events happening, “well Abby’s dad died which caused her to be unforgiving to Ellie, then she kills Joel which causes Ellie to be unforgiving to Abby which then results in her killing her friends, which causes Abby to kill Jessie, and so on. People truly miss the point of the game if they believe “Abby should be dead or vice versa” when does retaliation make anyone feel good? I tell you this, no one feels good, the only people that feel good about retaliation are weak people who will have no peace in the end, because unforgiveness whether it’s Ellie or Abby will destroy, it will not provide peace. If you believe Abby should be dead you miss the whole point of the game, that responsibility doesn’t just lie with Abby it lies with Ellie too. This game is about forgiving your enemies and letting go.

This is what we needed more of. Someone who sees the vision that they were going for, and while not fully agreeing with it, understanding and being open minded about it instead of taking the world by storm. Joel as a character breaks my heart. His own daughter ripped from his life too soon and 20 years later another young girl enters his life. Eventually she grows to be just like a daughter to him and while he may have doomed the whole world for her, he would do it all over again. Out of love for Ellie like a father and wanting to live out his life with her. Ellie wants to forgive him. She wants to try so hard to forgive him for what he did. Letting Abby go is that forgiveness. Abby had nothing to do with Joel's choice. She was just a side character in Joel's quest for what he wanted. While it is sad that Abby took him from Ellie. She understands that it is the consequences of Joel's actions. Why should Abby die for something that she would have done herself? Not to mention that it just would have led to someone Abby loved coming back for Ellie and history repeating itself. She wasn't willing to put Dina and JJ through that fear and stress again

As someone who’s never played the game before I’m hoping to hear some input. All I’ve seen about the series is the first hour and a half of the first game, trailers for the second, and an hour of gameplay right before we see Abby’s perspective of killing Joel. Those are the only things I’ve seen. And seeing the way she killed him made me resent her in a way I’ve never felt for a character and actually turned me away from thinking about getting the series. So basically all I’ve seen is Joel’s daughter die and then hearing about the fireflies, then the next game getting slammed over the head with a golf club. It physically hurts to watch. Am I supposed to feel this way or am I missing something or should I just give it a shot? I honestly don’t know. Seeing Joel die like that I just can’t put into words how much it made me resent Abby. If I feel this way about a character I’ve barely seen, that being Joel, I’m concerned about playing all of it in fear of the why I’ll feel then. I may be over reacting but I’m just genuinely interested in what people think about that scene and if I missed something.

I'm a 22 year old man, never has a movie or game made me cry, but this one did it. As I saw the trailer while I installed the game, I had no idea that Joel was going to be killed, and I did not know what to think about that at first, neither did I really enjoy playing as Abby at first, but as I progressed and got to learn more of her story, I started to see things differently. I saw what she had lost, and I understood why she wanted revenge. So Joel's death did not seem so pointless as I first thought. I think the problem people have with this game are that they don't understand the whole meaning of the story. Its not a story about revenge, but rather forgiveness. And its not the Joel-Ellie story people really wanted, and they refuse to accept anything else. I think its important to be open, kinda like life itself. Horrible and unforeseen things do happen, and you can either stand there and complain, or fight through it and be more openminded. Now the last flashback Ellie had with Joel jamming on his porch, that is what got me. The “I don't think I can ever forgive you for that, but I would like to try.” I'm so glad this was their last conversation, Joel died knowing he still meant something for her. At this point, my eyes were all teared up, glad I was alone in my room... Looking forward to play it again when I've emotionally recovered

Al Hoops nope I actually finished the game and just didn’t enjoy it. And some examples of two-dimensional characters are Dina who has almost no unique qualities about her and the game provides her with no motives or defining traits that made me feel any emotional attachment to her. Jesse is another character that I think had potential but the writers failed to give him any unique qualities besides the fact that he impregnated Dina. For abbys group, I also think Mel had potential but when she decided, as a pregnant woman, to go out on the front lines, i just started laughing because it’s an illogical decision and it’s obvious the writers were just trying to portray her as brave but failed horribly. Manny is pretty much the Jesse of Abbys group where he has almost no unique qualities about him and just gets shot in the face which had no emotional impact or really an impact on the story in general since almost every character death is completely forgotten by everyone

I don’t think she ends up entirely alone. I think the epilogue shows how she forgave Joel, was willing to forgive Abby, and ultimately forgiving herself for not being able to give the world a fighting chance at a vaccine. I think it’s a step towards healing, redemption, and getting her little family back.

There's a bit of dialogue where Ellie is recapping to Dina about the scene in part 1 where Joel is being drowned by that Hunter and he can't get to his gun. 5:51 this is an interesting parallel to that scene, but here Ellie is the Hunter and Abby is Joel trying to get a child to safety. Damn this game is excellent.

This edit really showed the growth that Ellie managed to go through in the game. Everything she went through, all the shit she did... She realized that the key to working through her grief and PTSD wasn't getting revenge, but in coming to terms with losing Joel, and working on forgiving him. Absolutely beautiful. Thank you for this.

I feel like Abby and Ellie were evenly matched - not just in strength, but in pain. They both lost their father, because that’s what Joel was to Ellie let’s be real. Abby essentially did what Ellie spent the game doing - getting revenge. And the rest of her story is desperately finding a way to lessen her guilt, and in doing so she finds Lev, and finds a person she’s willing to do everything for - Like Joel did for Ellie. And Ellie, I feel, went after those people not just for herself, but because she knew that’s what Joel would do for her. And I wonder if maybe part of that was obligation - he would do it for me, so I have to see this through. And in doing so, she lost herself. And I feel like her not killing Abby at the last minute was her holding on to whatever self she had left. Ellie to me was never a ruthless killer - she was a protector. And in some ways, she might feel she failed to protect Joel. fuck, the level of survivor’s guilt she probably feels, not just for Joel but for the entire world? Joel was all she had, so it made perfect sense that she couldn’t just let it go. She needed that last fight with Abby. She needed that moment to realise that she didn’t want to live with that guilt, that pain. And yeah I may not have agreed with her or liked the way things went, but just because you don’t like an ending doesn’t mean it’s a failed story. Remember how pissed off people were at the end of the first game for what Joel had done? I feel as confused and empty as I did after playing the first game. All we had then was Joel and Ellie moving forward, and hoping they’d be fine. All we have now is Ellie moving forward, and hoping she’ll be okay. And I think I’m okay with that. I love Ellie way more than I hate Abby, so I’m okay with Ellie letting her live. I ramble, but whatever.

I’m a 47 year old man, crying like a baby several minutes after watching the video. Editor of this video please accept this virtual Emmy nod from an immediately earned fan. Amazing, emotional work! Naughty Dog, don’t let the naysayers get ya down; this game, these games, made history. My goodness the only characters I feel so attached to in gaming as Joel and Ellie are Link and Zelda, and that took over 30 years to build. I So, so much hope there is a 3rd game. We have to see if Ellie went back to Jackson, what happened with her and Dina, how the baby grows up and whether Tommy got his life back together. Such beautiful games to look at, very immersive, I honestly can’t imagine what Naughty Dog is going to be able to do with PS5 hardware and a Last of Us environment. GG Naughty Dog, and tell Ellie hello for us, and we can’t wait to see her again. -LBz

i dont think she actually ended up alone tho. at the last scene, she actually had dina's bracelet on which she didnt have during santa barbara. it wasnt on her wrist and it also was not in her backpack. the theory now is that the last scene actually takes place a couple months after ellie already returned to jackson and she was just going back to the farmhouse for closure. she already made up with dina and that's why ellie has the bracelet again.
