Malcolm X’s sister had a lot of faith in him. She knew if she could talk to him, he would listen to her. She raised him. She was his sister that became his mother! He was the Apple of her eye.

Ella was a rather successful woman. She owned property, financed multiple things including Malcolm going to Mecca. She was his support through and through. I suggest that ALL Americans (or really anyone in the world, but especially White Americans) read a few books on Malcolm X. You’ll learn that: 1) He was not what school taught he was. 2) He was extremely intelligent and quick witted. 3) He was a man of extreme nobility. He walked the walk, and you could bet on his word. 4) He was the most American figure in our history.

She is a very powerful, intelligent woman & after seeing this video; which was a privilege to see; I can see her influence in him, but I also respect her honesty. She made it quite clear that the attributes that so many of us were drawn to; his fearlessness, his understanding of racial disparities & injustices, his candor & willingness to confront those injustices; were present within him even in his youth & her influence encouraged his solidity as a man & gave him a strong platform from which he could begin to educate himself morally, spiritually & politically. She stopped short of calling him a God; although he is; but made it clear that he was unique & so profound in his uniqueness & his gift, that not only would you never meet anyone like him, those who believe they knew him; including herself; did not. Her statements about Betty Shabazz were very insightful. Being in her presence would have been like drinking a cool glass of water after a dry spell. She’s no nonsense & straightforward. Thank you for posting this video. I had to subscribe as you have a catalog of videos that I look forward to viewing.

@ M-A. TIMUR-JUL MUNRAHMADHAN - 😒 Didn’t Malcolm separate from The Nation of Islam (started by W.D. Fard), after learning about the corrupt personal behavior of Elijah Muhammad (aka Elijah Poole) engaging in sexual relations with a number of teenage girls in the organization? The same Muhammad also alledged to have fathered children out of wedlock in affairs with two secretaries. Further, while The Nation of Islam uses the Quran, and claims many external similarities, it differs significantly from orthadox, historic Islam in its theology. Three of many reasons why Malcolm X left. He became disenchanted with Muhammad and the organization and after a series of problems, abandoned The Nation of Islam in 1964. He soon thereafter, traveled to Mecca on the hajj and became a Sunni Muslim. I’m certain if Ms. Ella Collins were with us today, her thoughts on your suggestion that Michael Campbell follow the path of Malcolm X by joining the Nation of Islam would differ.

@@djpseudoname2023here is the history - Fard was only the leader for a few years from 1930 and after controversy was ran off. By 1934 Elijah Muhammad became the new leader. In 1975 he passed away and his son Warith Muhammad brought most of the people over from the Nation into Sunni Islam - they were going in that direction anyway, but was waiting until when they felt it was the right time. Elijah Muhammad did have controversy but you can’t deny the good the Nation did for many African Americans (including Malcom X) at the time. My family came through the Nation and I can attest to it.

@@ameenahameed8874 Beautiful Nubian Queen, I Am fully aware about the NOI’s history, but thank you for sharing. What we must understand is that facts do not cease to exist because they are ignored or because one’s personal experience in the same surroundings differed from another’s . Mr. Malcolm X had come to regard Elijah Muhammad as a surrogate father, and over time Muhammad would regard Malcolm as a son, protégé, and heir apparent. Malcolm X became dispirited when he discovered Elijah’s motto was “Do as I say, and not as I do.” Muhammad’s conduct in extramarital affairs with young Nation secretaries, and becoming envious of the personal achievements of Malcolm X, constituted a violation of Nation teachings. Elijah Muhammad himself later confirmed the rumors in 1963, trying to justify his behavior by referring to precedents set by Biblical prophets. It appears that the then followers of the NOI seemed to have forgotten purpose, mission, and goals. In addition, as is stated in my previous comment, while the NOI uses the Quran, and claims many external similarities, it is not considered a mainstream Muslim religious group, and many Muslim leaders have distanced themselves from the NOI. The NOI’s theological beliefs and practices differ significantly from traditional, dominant sects of Islam. In closing, I can neither confirm nor deny the good, if any the NOI, has done for people of color. I can confirm that Malcolm X became displeased with the NOI as did his sister, Ms. Ella Collins; this based on the documented recordings of both individuals.

Having one believing and true friend in life can make your dreams worth living, and their fulfillment a tremendous gift and inspiration to others. Thank you, Sister Ella for having the transcendental insight and admonishing power worthy of sustaining Brother Malcolm, regardless of the challenges of his life. Sadly today, most back men, had Ella been young today, would pass her over for the oppressor (white women). Would never see the beauty in her because they would look at her deep melanin and natural hair and consider her basic. This woman is the epitome of a WOMAN. She is blessed and touched by God. A Proverbs 31 woman. She was Malcolm's sister but soon became his second mother. We need women and men like Ella and Malcolm. She was Malcolm's conscience when he was Malcolm Little and Malcolm's muse when he became Malcolm X.
