    @@mkw707 I think that you're forgetting that most of these African athletes come from less than ideal upbringing. Zersenay Tadese, former half-marathon world record holder and breaking2 athlete used to rub to and from his school daily. that's 14km daily. he wanted to be a pro cyclist but couldn't afford a bicycle so he got into running. running is quite possibly the sport with the easiest access. you dont even really need shoes, all you need is the will to go out and run.

  • @Josh-tt6zg

    @Josh-tt6zg

    5 жыл бұрын

    @@davidelederman7337 That's just a super disingenuous remark. You're defining success based off of what Eliud has accomplished and what he is capable of. Not once does Eliud ever mention that anyone can run a world record, what he does say is that everyone can have success. Success is different for every person. It manifests itself in different ways. It doesn't even have to apply to the world of sports. You fail to recognize this. Your way of thinking will ultimately lead to a negative attitude about everything you do, your passions, your strengths, hell even your purpose in life. Continue your way of thinking and you truly will never be successful. I wager that you already know this. You're just afraid to set a realistic goal that defines success for you personally. You're afraid to actually sacrifice something and put in the work to achieve success. If you always base the definition of success off of what marathon time Eliud or someone else runs, then it'll always be easy for you to say, "Oh that's impossible for me to every achieve that time and therefore I will never be successful." Thinking that and saying that is what ultimately drags you down and prevents you from ever sacrificing something within your life.

    Josh very true . Also does it mean that all non Kenyans should give up the sport because they don't have their advantage . I'm just as impressed by the achievements of European and American athletes who give their all and compete ... Just because he obviously has a talent as well - doesn't mean he doesn't work hard. There's other people with the same talent he has worked hard and races harder to beat

    All these people are athletes, all of them are millionaires, their net worth combined is something close to 1.5 Billion Kenyan Shillings. They don't really care much about the money, money hasn't changed them. Training together and success just gives them happiness. Their level of discipline, togetherness, hard work and humility always makes them shine. THIS IS AFRICA!

    True, but these guys are not exactly poor. I live not far from where Eliud lives, and most of these guys in Eldoret City here in Kenya, and property prices can go up to USD600,000 for an acre of land. Further away from town, it is not uncommon for many guys here to own hundreds of acres of arable farmland in a region sparsely populated yet which is regarded as the breadbasket of Kenya. So they are not by any account poor. Many athletes here live a life of luxury and their habits are very different from Eliud's- partying all the time, going around with guns being jackasses and generally pulling their weight around and showing how big they are. But Eliud and his team choose every week to leave all their property behind, retreat into the camp shown above, about 40 km from the town, and devote their lives to humble living and the bare minimum, to discipline their bodies and push them to the limit. It is a choice, not a lack of options.

    Correr una maratón de 42 k es una acción al límite de la capacidad humana.Ganar con récord una maratón es obra de titanes. Y si existen titanes capaces de abrazar un estilo de vida sencilla en la que se cultiva la autodisciplina y la cooperación por sobre la ostentación, el consumismo y el individualismo, entonces los humanos podemos tener esperanzas. Gracias Eliud por ser un titán de verdad.

    Beside his mental and physical strength, Eliud understood what is recovery deficits. We hardly heard of him getting serious injury. He know how to avoid recovery deficits so not to affect his training programme. Consistent being fit is the result of positive recovery after each exercise. How fast and and how far can a runner gain depend on the recovery taking place in the run.
