Good call on the TLR to tube tyre weight difference. I've never cared to check. Probably would be lighter with a clincher + latex tube than TLR + 40g of sealant. Just lose the puncture protection. Great review, as always.

Note about carbon spokes. I was @ 225lbs when I started riding my winspace wheels. 1st spoke to break was rear wheel at the threads. rim went barely out of true and I made it home. The next time I broke spokes because my derailler committed suicide and dove into the spokes accelerating out of a corner. Took 3 out but the wheel didn't fail. It has been repaired and no problems since. I think the tensions are so high if you lose one you good chance of making it home. But it is a negative that you cant make an adjustment on the road in a jam with a spoke tool

Given the vagaries of resin/finish coat, I think I'd measure lateral deviation on the inside mounting face rather than than the exterior of the rim like you would do with a metal rim - probably a more accurate view of lateral true.

Hi Oz cycle. I purchased a set of Elite rims, they initially came as thru axle and after a bit of back and forward they sent out qr adaptors, unfortunately the diameter of the qr adaptors seem a little to largeto fit my frame ! So having a great deal of pain trying to get this sorted ! Starting to think I should of just spent locally.

Fantastic review which influenced me to buy a RB set. I rode them for 1/2 season upgrading from a pair of DA C24. They climb as well or even better then the DA. Definitely faster on the flats and not harsh at all. The wide rims maxed out the clearance of my DA900 calipers. I have barely 1mm on each side. Thinner pads would help. Down side, very Loud free hub. Some people love it but it's not my cup of tea.

I am really tempted to get these wheels, but a couple of things are holding me back. It seems that from the reviews I have seen so far there are some issues; Hub issue from trace velo which had been fixed and got sent a new hub, bearing issue in the front hub for oz in the first batch and spoke tension in the front wheel being too low and inconsistent for peak torque as I read in the comments. The latter might be hard to test for a consumer, but it seems like the product being reviewed is not a finished product per say, but a product still in development. Would I get the improved wheelset where all the issues are taken care of, or should I wait untill a new version is released? It might be me being cynical, but I would think it would be harder to get a replacement part if you are not an influencer or the like. Also thanks for the excellent in debth review, would the wrinkeling inside the carbon rim affect the structural properties in any way or displace the weight distribution of the wheels? Did these wheels have less or more abnormalities inside the rim compared to other brands?

The lowest profile is 40 mm for the Drive. I understand that the Drive are much wider the the Dura Ace and minimize the vertical profile. Will the Drive wheels be driven just as much as the Dura Ace C35s?

Understandable. We had quite a few riders here who had same concerns. They got the deeper wheels, and months later they not even thinking about it as they subconsciously adapted to how the wheels feel in crosswinds. Extreme crosswinds will affect you no matter what wheels are used , most of the time it's no problem.

Hi Oz. Love your videos. When reviewing these wheels you've covered just about everything but unless I'm mistaken, you don't give an opinion on the freehub pick-up / drive engagement lag. The Elite Drive wheels use a 4 pawl hub with a 36 tooth drive ring and thus have 10 degree angle of engagement. My current wheels have 6 pawls and a 102 teeth drive ring which gives a very rapid 3.5 degree AOE which I love. What's the drive pick-up like with the Elite's out in the real world on the road ? Would I notice the difference between 3.5 and 10 degree AOEs ? One other aspect I don't think you've covered is what are the Elite Drive 50s like in crosswinds ? I've a different set of 50mm section wheels which are badly affected by crosswinds.

You want notice engagement difference on a road bike....more engagements are good for trial bikes, bmx and some cross-country. 50mm section isn't as bad as a 70mm but better than 35mm. It's that simple with crosswinds

Hi Oz, Thanks for the great and honest review. I have an unrelated question about waxing, i'm current using connex chains, i have 4 chains in cycle meaning i will swap the chain every 300-350km, and end up waxing at least 3 chains at a time if not 4 that is about 12 days per wax-job, but lately i have noticed a problem that when i take off the first chain and keep it in a clean bag then store it in a cabinet, but found out the chain got a little bit rust on the surface 10 days later when i was ready to do the waxing. I know that might be because of the humid or water when i kept in the bag, but still wondering what do you have to say about this problem and any suggestion on how to prevent it later on and how to get rid of the rust on the chain surface? Thanks in advance and always appreciate your kind work for the open community.

I believe they do sell the hub body seperately. You will need to inquire with them unless they have changed. But when I ordered my wheels I inquired on adding extra bodies and was provided a quote. I'm running their lower end set with around 10k kms and zero issues so far.

Thanks for this. Subbed. I'm thinking about getting a pair of these wheels. Being 28 mm wide they seem better suited for 28s than the winspace which are optimised for 23s or 25s at a push. If you subscribe to the 105% rule (which I don't quite understand, or know if it's actually a fact) then with all other things being equal, quality, aero efficiency etc, these would be a better choice than the winspace if you plan to ride 28s. What do u rekon?

Just another note not about the elite wheels, but after seeing your video on making the tool to straighten bent aluminum rims, I decided to give it a go and repair my Pinarello Most Panther rim(rear) to use on my Pinarello Prince aluminum frame,(with carbon forks and stays) my problem is that when I am on the largest sprocket the rear derailleur touches the spokes. I have adjusted the der. many times but can't get the sweet spot, either I can't get it into the large sprocket or it touches the spokes very lightly. Is there a thin spacer that can be put on the hub? Thanks for your expert advice! ps I want to use this bike with those wheels for when I go to work.

Rear wheel will not spin when the cassette is attached with even minimal torque. (it will freewheel with a very nice sounding ratchet. but wheel seems to be stuck when trying to pedal) Is this something I am obviously doing wrong?
