    From what I've learned, most weight training isn't necessary for a sprinter unless you're already at or near the limit of your reactive, genetic and explosive ability on the track. When this is the case, as is the case with elites who've already gone through years of track work then it's time to hit the weights. Many of us watch these videos and try to emulate the elite's method of getting faster. They're already hitting sub 10.5 and their limiting factor is no longer their top speed, it's their power. For most of us, strength is not our limiting factor. I've had the greatest success with simply doing pure top end speed sprinting (20m flys with a 30m acceleration at near maximal intensity). Top speed is the one thing that improves EVERYTHING in the 100 and 200m. I'd rather do as much top end sprinting as my body allows (usually 1 or 2 days a week, timed accurately and ending the workout once I've hit my fastest split for the day). The rest of the days will be focused around plyo, core training and some resisted sled work. I still do the odd bit of weight training here and there, just to address imbalances and to look good.

    Couldn't agree with you more. Weight trainings is completely unnecessary to being a good sprinter. As you stated strength is not the limiting capacity. If it was women's times would not be as fast as they are. I have seen a 140 lb woman run a sub 23 200 and an absolutely jacked man struggle to break 23. Directing your force correctly, maintaining a low body weight while keeping your strength will help a lot more people. imo.

    Depends upon the person. If someone isn't close to their potential for power a proper strength program will raise that much quicker than bodyweight only work.

    Alot of body building exercises are overrated when it comes to sprinting. The best of the best such as bolt or andre de grasse do not have a big squat. They are not squatting or deadlifting over 400 lbs.

  • @Boogieman618

    @Boogieman618

    That’s such an L take lmao you can ask any sprinter or athlete and they’ll say that the squat of deadlift is their favorite exercise. Squats are so glorified because they work all of your lower body muscles plus the core which is important for every sport. Usain Bolt is obviously an outlier. We’ll probably never see a high level sprinter who’s built like him. I reckon Andre De Grasse is at least strong in the squat given how his legs look. All of these sprinters are high level too.

    @@Boogieman618 you have no idea what your talking about. I said body building exercise. Do you know what those are ? There is no need for a sprinter to do ATG squats for max reps. Zero. There is research showing that 20% improvement in squat strength translates into a 2% improvement in 40m sprint. It does transfer if you're a distance runner, but it doesn't transfer if you're a sprinter, and that's the opposite of what many coaches think. Andre ran 10.9 in basketball shorts for the first time in his lift. He wasn't squatting 400 lbs when he did it. He was in high school playing basketball. I mean just Google any sprinter work out. Do you see them doing max squats ? At most, what you see is qrt squats. Take the L son

    @@helios4425 “there is absolutely no reason for sprinters to do ATG squats” that is absolutely false. Your little study is solely based on EXPLOSIVENESS not general strength. If you actually trained like an athlete you would know that the primary style of training for explosiveness and power is plyometrics and you have to be very strong to even preform it. The point of the ATG squat is to strengthen your legs and decrease injury which is crucial for transferring power for every sport and many athletes perform it. I never said anything about ATG squats but you made such an L take that I couldn’t let it slide. Idk what you have against bodybuilders but it’s not my fault that 99% of athletes perform ATG squats and bodybuilders do the same thing🤷‍♂️🤷‍♂️
