Alright, Kevin. There’s also a temporary “fix” for when you’ve updated your Mac to macOS 14.5, which stops the Mac working with the 4K X but if you had had your 4K X in 10Gb/s mode before the update, it won’t work with the iPads. Someone from Elgato suggested it to me last night, although, it does not fix the Mac issue. I’ll try and do a video later. Also, someone else from Elgato deleted a bunch of my posts on Reddit. I was accused of spamming, this was after the posts being up for days. Each of my posts were about specific things that were wrong with the 4K X. So it’s obvious that Elgato are trying to bury bad news and using any BS to delete posts that are critical of their products. Apparently, and regardless of the different problems, including different problems between different hardware platforms, Mac and iPad. Elgato want people to see that all the different problems are really just one problem and breaking them down to the individual problems that they are, is spamming. What a load of bollocks. @@DavidHarry I'm still surprised these issues are slipping past Elgato's net. It suggests their team is not testing different scenarios enough before releasing the firmware updates. Pure definitely not spamming if you're raising different issues/scenarios in each post. If I pick up a newish MacBook, I'll test this too as I would want to use the 4K X with it.

@@KevinMuldoon Alright, Kevin. It suggests to me that Mac is an afterthought at Elgato and they won’t assign the necessary recourses to keep on top of it. They don’t even make any videos on their KZread channel about specific fixes for Mac etc. Accusing me of spamming was just their BS excuse to delete posts clearly showing problems with their products. What I don’t get is that I’m obviously very vocal about these things, I obviously know a lot about their capture interfaces, I’ve obviously got professional video experience and I’m not going away or going to keep my mouth shut. So why not work with me and help me to help them to get the message out there with regard updates on the problems. They clearly only want to work with KZreadrs who don’t criticise their products, even if that means keeping a section of their user base (Apple Silicon) in the dark. Anyway, after treating me the way they have with their total lack of official support via their website, not answering any of my questions and then deleting my posts on Reddit. If they ever got in touch after this point, I would simply tell them to go f..k themselves. Cheers, Dave.

After seeing this I toggled off the 10gbps option on my 4K X and then updated to Mac 14.5. After the update the 4K X is still visible and working BUT when I go into the Elgato Capture utility the 10gbps toggle switch is gone. I have done a full reboot, etc.. to no avail. Weird...

Hi. Unfortunately, I doubt it. As far as I'm aware if you switch back to 5Gb/s it will help for the iPad but as soon as you update the Mac to 14.5 it will stop working with the 4K X but your iPad will still be OK. Basically and from what I understand and Elgato have not said anything to contrary, it does not matter if you were in 5Gb/s or 10Gb/s before the update to macOS 14.5, the 4K X will not work on the Mac after the update. Or put it this way, you will be a brave person if you tryout what you are saying but I definitely suggest that you DON'T BOTHER TRYING IT. Cheers, Dave.

@@DavidHarry It's really weird, I jumped and at my own risk tried it and it works however the 10gbps toggle is now gone with no option to turn it back on.

@@DavidHarry Facepalm moment, I forgot to hold Option down. I now see the 10Gbps option but am afraid to turn it on as I don't need that headache of a non working card. Side question - is the 10Gb/s mostly for recording? If I am streaming at 1080/60 what will I be missing out on besides the issue with CS601? Thanks!

​@@metagamers No worries, I'm the King of Facepalms 🤦‍♂🤣 Anyway, someone at Elgato decided to play ball and gave me a suggestion that seems to work but I have to try it out properly, if it all works fine I will do a video tomorrow. Here's what he suggested "Try this - Disconnect 4K X and reboot your mac. Once it boots, do NOT open any video apps. Open Capture Device Utility an see if you can disable 10 Gbps support". I will try this and see if it works to bring my iPad Pro back into the equation and if it may even work with OBS on macOS 14.5. The only problem that I can see here is that I already know of people who have gone through the pain of rolling back their Macs to 14.4.1 and if this suggestion does work, then these people have unnecessarily gone backwards with macOS and all the crap involved with that. This is the reason why Elgato need to be a lot more transparent and proactive with Apple Silicon users, instead of having us all running around like headless chickens in a self help group wasting loads of time trialing and erroring. As for 1080/60. You will only be missing rec.709 but you will also be able to set your incoming video transport stream protocol from the 4K X to YUY2, which is great. I have actually done tests with the 4K X in 1080 and upscaled to 4K for KZread, for shits and giggles, and it looked awesome. However, the iPad app also records using rec.601, which you can't do anything about, so a slightly darker picture in the shadows etc. If you are interested in how good the 4K X really can be, then check out this video. It's super boring but it shows just how good the 4K X can be when it's working properly. When it was first released it was working in rec.709 but not 60FPS in 4K. Regardless, I done this test comparing it to my Ninja V, using ProRes 422 HQ for both the Ninja and the 4K X and while the the 4K X is only recoding 30FPS, the same frames in the 60FPS of the Ninja recoding look identical, which is awesome. kzread.info/dash/bejne/d6GemaquZK7dhdI.htmlsi=atqoEwaq8zZjysGb Cheers, Dave.
