Elephants - The Whole Story 1/13 - Go Wild
Үй жануарлары мен аңдар
Elephants are not only the largest land mammals on Earth. They are also among the most endearing: an irresistible mix of intelligence, dexterity and shear power.
Comprised of over 100,000 individual muscles, the elephant’s trunk is the world’s most versatile nose. At various times it functions as hand, weapon, drinking straw, vacuum cleaner, snorkel and eating utensil. Combine this with a pair of tusks which are, in fact, the world’s longest teeth and the elephant presents an extremely formidable face.
These powerful pachyderms are able to adapt to almost any African habitat. In the Kunene desert, they trek for days in search of precious water to drink. In the rainforest of Ghana, the smaller, more agile elephants face different challenges. In rarely captured footage, the forest elephants are seen spraying themselves with half-chewed food and saliva to cool down.
Wherever they find themselves, elephants are fiercely familial. They travel in herds and keep in touch with each other using 30 different long-distance, low-frequency calls. This way, group members can call home from over 8 kilometers away.
Science has only recently revealed a rare new elephant ailment known as ‘floppy trunk syndrome’. Thought to be a new type of virus or the result of eating toxic introduced plants, the result is that the animal loses all control of its trunk. There is no recovery and, unable to feed properly, there is little hope of survival.
With stunning visuals, the latest scientific research and rare elephant behavior, we tell The Whole Story on Africa’s great grey giants.

I life in Africa. When I go on safari, I go JUST to watch Elephants. Magnificent. Thank you for The Joy!
Thank you for this beautiful tribute to the gentle giants😍👌💯🐘
There are soo beautiful creatures..
The sad thing is; it's only the people that care about Elephants and animals in general, that will watch this excellently presented documentary. Not the companies and people that obliterate it all willingly in the name of money. Not a care for the World. EDIT: Nature is incredible on all sorts of amazing and magic like levels. Thought I should end my comment on a positive note. Take care you all and have a kind and caring 2022.
I love elephants including the baby elephant, they are so adorable, sweet, beautiful, strong, loyal & mighty. 😊 I enjoy watching elephant documentaries. 🐘

Vulnerable as much as admirable: this is why, years ago, I adopted Zongoloni, who was rescued by Sheldrick Wildlife Trust; and following up on her growing from a hopeless orphan to a magnificent matriarch is a continuous blessing.

Wow! This is the 1st time ive ever seen the first herd at the water hole not just yield to the incoming herd. Usually the herd already there just leaves so the new herd can have the hole. Times are tite evidently lol they werent trying to yield to nobody!! Lol😲

In South Africa and Botswana elephants are over populated by thousands due to mismanagement. Sad but true.
When was this filmed? It looks like the 1960's or 1970's when there were actually herds still left .... Newer documentary's seem to show very small groups ... calling them herds ... This documentary actually has a lot of adult elephants, calves and teenagers ... Newer documentary's seem to only have one or two calves with mostly teenagers ..... heartbreaking ....

@Dusk Hollow Really? I looked at development of elephant population and it wasn't as much as 1 million in 2000. Seems more like 1980.

PS: The true king of african savannah, behold the majestic african elephant that is the big boss who dominates everyone through size strength wisdome grace and above all intelligence.
30,000 kilos =33 tons, the heaviest Elephant on record was 12 tons, just for the record.
Thank you for uploading. Old style documentary with a good look into elephant life. When is this film from? According to the estimated elephant population, "less than a million", it could be around 1980. It was around one million in 1979.
