An entire year of the life of orphan elephants is captured on film, where we witness them grow up and be reintroduced into the wild. The film showcases the David Sheldrick Wildlife Trust and its breeding and rehabilitation station for elephants. We use never before seen footage that perfectly shows the coexistence of elephants and the highly emotional relationships that elephant groups maintain. The result is a spectacular look at the wonderful animals and their habitat.
We accompany the first steps of a two-year-old elephant who is just starting his release program. He strolls through the park with his herd, meeting all types of other animals. Along the way, he meets the cow elephants, which oversee the education of the young animals. They teach them how to protect themselves from the sun by using dust, how to find fire extinguishers, and how to swim in the rivers. We also observe the story of two young elephants in their first night in the wilderness on their own. Captivating film footage allows us to truly learn how elephants behave in the wild.

I've followed Dame Daphne Sheldrick for many many years and have annually adopted three elephants and a rhino for my grandkids. God bless them for the valuable life saving work they do.❤🐘🇨🇦
Thank you for highlighting the fantastic work the Sheldrick wildlife trust do to help rehabilitate Elephants back to were they belong. I have been a supporter of Sheldrick wildlife trust for many years but have just heard the sad news that one of the keepers has been killed by a wild bull Elephant his name is Patrick Muiruri. This shows how dangerous the keepers work can be, they are wildlife Heroes and I will always support them.

Without exaggeration, this is the first happy wildlife doc I've seen this year. Every other story is of desolation, ruin and despair (caused, as always, by us). So I was absolutely thrilled to stumble on this rare gem. Mad props to the Trust for creating this singular elephant resort and much respect to the dedicated, loving men that rear these orphans. What a wonderfully fulfilling life - they must have such inner peace. I'd love to do this work myself but that, alas, is not my path. Thanks for making such a lovely film.

Why would you be so thrilled. Maybe you were seeking something to watch ou of the sadness all around? There are so many reports and photos online and also videos of thousands upon thousands of elephants killed by terrorists just for killing, for poaching, and for meat. They also have a photo and video of piles and piles of dead elephants in Afghanistan, and in Africa. All of the whales are in very low populations. Few people know there are global killings of all animals happening, and in the USA it is the birds.

Um, ya. Exactly. It was a delight to see a video where it wasn't all about the killing and exploitation of these glorious creatures. Every other video tells that story - one that must be told and re-told. But this rare gem of human kindness is heart-warming and thus worthy of praise. Nothing more, nothing less.@@user-bi4sr2rw7b

@@user-bi4sr2rw7b This doc makes my soul happy. I remember in my early 20's in the 80's when I saw the cover of a National Geographic with an aerial view photo of a slaughtered elephant herd. Only the faces of the elephants were missing. There were young elephants and babies just standing by the others. That one moment changed my life. It's too bad that it took so long for sanctuaries and orphanages like this one to come about. Poaching in Africa has been reduced, and we are no longer in danger of wiping out elephants. It's still happening elsewhere, but younger generations can see at any time what horrible things are being done to wildlife, so curbing it doesn't take decades.

I agree. It's for a big part indoctrination, there's an agenda behind it. With this I won't say that there are not awful things happening, but the focus is always on that. Same like in the daily news, it's on and on about negative things, while there is hardly space for positive news. This is causing a negative mindset which is consequently leading to more negativity. While positive news lead to a more optimistic mindset from where it's much easier to get to a general more positieve outcome. We all want the same, but walk another path to get there❤
This was magnificent- the wonderful care of these amazing beings- thank-you from the bottom my heart- an excellent documentary on every level, the footage, the music, the narration couldn't be any better. And the beautiful man in charge obviously has a heart of gold- a million times over- thank-you!!!

The Sheldrick Orphanage is absolutely incredible with what they do!!! I didnt really know about Sheldrick until i came across this video. I watch a orphanage in South Africa but I will definitely be here from now on!! The team of people that are with Sheldrick are incredibly knowledgeable and have the elephant's safety first. I think it is awesome that some of the veteran babies still in the orphanage are allowed to go out and start living back in the wild as the elephant's choose to. You are such a awesome place and i will definitely be donating and telling everyone about Sheldrick!!! Thank you all for doing what you do for the elephant's!!! Pure joy! Especially in the mud!
Dame Sheldrick learned orphan elephants can die from a broken heart bc she went to her daughter's wedding & calf thought abandoned again. So she changes care takers so they dont just bond with 1. She also had to develop milk that was similiar to their moms. She is my hero or as Maya Angelou would say: SHEro. All of this was with trial & error & LOTS OF LOVE💜🐾💜 ELEPHANTS LOVE & GRIEVE I believe more than humans & I guess forgive bc look what humans have done to them & pollute earth! Thx for showing this video teaching of elephants souls.

God bless the keepers for this wonderful program. So glad the wild elephants are back.
It’s amazing how they form a circle around the little one. I have seen grown elephants do it in the wind when there’s a predator nearby. Truly beautiful! I want to thank the keepers for their excellent service & undivided attention to the project. And to all those who contribute money for their care.
Wow, wow & wow! What a beautiful & poignant documentary 💕Elephants are extraordinary beings with high EQ & sociocognitive skills. It’s time humans see all animals as an extension of our being & not as something that are less intelligent & savage.
