Personally, I would replace that stylus as soon as possible, with a diamond one. As for cassettes, you can hook a deck up to the aux input on the back. You could also connect the audio output to the deck, and record to cassettes if you wanted to. Another use for the output could be connecting it to an amplifier/ speaker set up if you wanted a more expansive sound than the built in speakers provide. Having that input output on the back makes this a pretty expandable stereo.

Sounds like the amplifier is designed for the high impedance of the ceramic cartridge great to see the speakers are enclosed to prevent resonance of the unit introducing vibration back I to the turntable platter and being picked up by the cartridge. Being Canadian I’m happy to see the electrohome name coming back. Up until the mid 1980’s Electrohome assembled their products in Canada near the twin cities of Kitchener- Waterloo Ontario. In the early 1950’s Electrohome started the first TV station in the Kitchener-Waterloo area as a way of getting people buying TV sets, That TV station CKCO still exists. Another tidbit of trivia, the name of that model Kingston is name of a city east of Toronto

Thank you for the trivia facts. They are interesting. The thing that really peaked my interest is they would build something as big and complicated as a TVstation to sell TVs.

I was born in Canada and yes Electrohome had quite the name way back. They used to make TV and stereos in Kitchener Ontario and also made commercial monitors used in video games like the Ms. Pac man. Was all quality stuff but few Americana are aware of them or Clairtone, Canada is always the quiet underdog in the US. they had affiliations with Mitsubishi and JVC too. Usually good solid engineering too.

glance in the box and/or in the plastic overwrap and see if you can find the screw cover. It doesn't take much to shake them loose. Long shot, I know, but maybe?

It's a nice looking, well-made unit that has that deep warm sound I associate with old Sixties radiograms and the like. The wood finish is cool, though I'd probably want mahogany or walnut to go with my 1930s style living room. A tape deck would be a welcome addition (a discreet slot-loading one so as not to spoil the looks) though it can easily be connected to a Walkman or a separates deck. Plastic platter is also a pity as imho a metal one adds stability and quality to the unit, but it's a minor gripe.

Has anyone else who has purchased the Kingston noticed a quite electric buzz/hum coming from the cabinent itself? It's faint and does not interfere / jeopardize the sound of the music, but is noticeable when turned on whether on standby or selecting between sources. Beyond this, I love the Kingston unit and would recommend it to anyone who is in search of a great looking, all in one unit.

Greetings ! I purchased this unit and love it. Can your provide me with a link to where I can purchase a diamond stylus for this unit? I purchase a set of 3 on Amazon, they measured very close to the Electrohome stylus, unfortunately they are the wrong shape ...ever so slightly. Thank you Rob

I have a large collection of 45 RPM records that I have long wanted to put on some medium where I could listen to them one right after the other....my turntable has a USB port and a Record function...but when I recorded a couple of dozen of the records, I found that the thumb drive would only play one song at a time because the thumb drive reads each song as a separate file - so it wasn't continuous play . I've asked everyone I know who understands electronics (I don't) how I can get my records switched to both a disc and a thumb drive, since cars now a days don't have disc players anymore...but do have thumb drive USB ports....Can anyone tell me what I need to do or what equipment I need to purchase to accomplish this?

I’m a voice actor that loves vinyl. There is a great cheap Lavalier mic I think would help you sound like you aren’t talking in you kitchen. It’s called PurplePanda. $35-$37 value. Just a recommendation.

Lol its a fair point! I have tried everything in that room, from LAV, to a hardwire Zoom mic to (most recently) a shotgun mic. I try to keep the intros minimal and do the bulk via VO in post.....

Record-ology ... you do what’s best for you. Good to know what you you’ve tried. I’ve been in shoots in big rooms like that, and they put the mic very close to my neck. If had a tie it was under the knot. Again, you’ve got this. Might be just mic placement. That being said, The UTurn turntable you reviewed was brilliant.

I wish they would make something similar an all in one with a magnetic cartridge and adjustable tracking force everyone of these units use the cheapest mechanism possible and the 50 cent ceramic cart but its an okay looking unit i hope music public kingdom is listening :)

The record player sounds really good for a ceramic cart. Because,, They gave it a proper pre amp. Yes, ceramic cartridges need a pre amp too. They are very well capable of producing decent sound quality, but the suitcase types, and some other makes just feed the signal line right to the main amp, with no help at all. This is the main thing I can’t stand about these starter sets. They can be so much better than they are.

Not going to say a whole lot of negativity about the unit and itself because it's not half bad. But, there is this other guy who will go on mentioned who has a You Tube channel and he plays full side one and side two of albums through a direct feed which sounds amazing. Now this guy I'm talking about must have nothing but tons of money and tons of time on his hands because his equipment is ridiculously outlandish and sounds completely beautiful and awesome which I understand is completely different from what you're trying to put a cross with your videos and that's fine but you drop the needle onto the record and play like 3 seconds of a track and it gives the audience no idea really how good you're saying these units sound. Let one full three-minute track play the whole way through. You're going to be fine. Copyright can bite it! There are plenty of albums out there that no one gives a hoot about copyright protection because no one gave a hoot about the music and they didn't sell and no one knows who they are and that's that. I go to record stores in in their $1 Bins they have tons of jazz and show tune and even big band type stuff that I know you like that is from the unknown artist which I have bought some of myself many times over throughout the years and these records sound great. No one knows who they are and no one is going to care. They even have phono cartridge shootout contest between two different cartridges that they play 20 seconds of one cartridge and then they play 20 seconds of the other cartridge of the same song.... Mr. Record-ology Dude Man......🙂🙂🙂

If you use more than 9 seconds of audio the KZread content match system won’t let you monetize the video. Most rights holders allow you to use as much music as you want if you are willing to turn over monetization to them - I am not.

Yes it's to do with copyright. One way around it is to use classical music (most of it is 200 years old!), or public domain stuff from the YT library (or like Techmoan does, Anders Enger Jensen, who doesn't mind his Retro Grooves stuff being used in tech videos as it gets more exposure for it).
