It always did bother me that some of the songs were put on Greatest Hits compilations totally out of context, but I suppose Jeff knew what he was doing. I had such a compilation, "The Way Life's Meant To Be" referenced being back in 1981 and "Ticket To The Moon" talking about the 1980s being so uncomplicated. If you hadn't heard the full album you wouldn't know what that was about.

Jeff Lynne is a genius

Took me a bit to appreciate this album. My past thoughts were "ugh this is so overproduced/poppy" without really giving it a chance. Now it's easily in my top 5 favorite ELO albums.

It's now become one of my all time favourite albums by any artist. It's an absolute masterpiece and if nothing else it's my favourite ELO album.

It's a bitter-sweet conclusion with a twist to truly end off the story. The way I see it: the protagonist finally adjusts & accepts his new life in the year 2095 ("rides on the wheels of tomorrow) after countless failed attempts to return to his original timeline, but deep down he still yearns to return to his true home ("you still wander the fields of your sorrow") despite finally coming to appreciate 2095. Then it's heavily implied the protagonist is warped back in time... To which I like to believe it all worked out fine for him (yeah, I'm aware of the original ending, and it's a kick in the teeth)

Are we not going to talk about how good this song is? It still counts as a song and I love it.

But, it’s so drenched in heavy echo and reverb on the original issue that it’s incomprehensible.

Probably my favorite album. It was light years ahead of its time, and still holds up today!!! Thanks Jeff.

Un gran y épico final para un buen álbum, un final lleno de esencia trágica y nostálgica pero a la vez de mucha emoción y euforia.

One of my favourite albums of all time!

Rock, Progressive rock, New wave, Pop rock, Synth-pop, Rock opera, Electronica, Art rock, Electronics in rock music

Even though it's an epilogue, it's still good. The whole album is a damn experience. Thank you for the music, ELO.

The Organ, guitar and narration really hits so good here.

beautifully sad...great album...

To be honest the abrupt ending to this track and the album did scare me a bit as a child but nowadays I see it as a fitting end to one of the best albums of all times which is beautifully crafted from the very start to the very end. When I was younger I also didn't appreciate this album told a story and that there are theories on the protagonist's fate. However from what I have read online none seem optimistic. Either he was left trapped in 2095 forever or he returned to 1981 to find his girlfriend Julie had moved away.

Jeff Lynne was asked in 2001 - he didn't confirm what the words were but said he couldn't remember what they meant. The two guesses here are solid, but nobody is 100% sure.

It's a great song, one of the best I've listened to. The feeling of a grand end, but at the same time endless sadness. It makes me cry every time I listen to it.
