Thanks! Haven't seen any videos posted in a while, so it was nice to watch. Some great information. I love the dip elements. I will think about these for my old 8 gallon pot. I got my last pot fitted with a TC flange, ready for electric brewing. I just need the willpower to get the 240 volt circuit sorted. In the meantime I will stick with gas. Thanks again!

Awesome video. When I went electric, I thought my problems with propane, cold weather, etc. were over. But the ventilation of steam is a rarely mentioned aspect of e-brewing....you almost need to keep the garage door open anyway. In fact, it can be a major PITA if you still brew in a cold garage.....that steam can be ridiculous and will affect your drywall, rust your tools, etc.! But, it is NICE being able to "set it and forget it"...or have your equipment start heating the HLT before you even roll out of bed.....

+hawkie333 Moisture management is an easier problem to deal with than combustion air issues but point taken. The smaller the space, the more effort you have to put into it. I brew in a 3000 sqft space and a simple fan to circulate the air keeps condensation problems at bay. An exhaust fan pulling from right above the kettle would preserve as much conditioned air space as possible.

Some homebrewers are now using a innovative application of a steam condenser unit on their boil kettles, which effectively sucks out the steam and reduces it to hot water through a simple (no moving parts) in-line mister. Looks slick as snot, and I will be applying that little solution to my garage system in lieu of an expensive and involved steam extractor hood. I like your videos and your website is cool too, my question is how do you control the temp do you also sell a thermostat to set the temperature? I guess I could buy one for a hot water heater and wire it in but I think they only go up to 190 degrees. Update I found what I was looking for it’s called a PID temperature Controllers

+neoemek A RIMS tube is specifically used for maintaining or slightly modifying the temperature of a mash. All the other solutions I touch on in the video are more directed towards heating strike water and boiling wort as you would normally do with a propane burner and a pot.

Hi I have one of your 5500 watt stainless element. I often get a layer of burned crud on it. How would you advise cleaning it? I'm concerned if I scrape it with something I may ruin it. Any advice ? Cheers Mark

I use a soft scrub pad(foam) from the discount store and hot water with PBW

Could you not make a screw flange with the couture of the cylinder kettle. Most are between 12 inches and 18 inches diameter. One for each increment of diameter would only be 6 in total. It would seal the joint with a plastic washer with no solder or welding

you will need two solid state relays, take the signal of the PID and feed the two SSR

Do you have controllers to regulate the boil?

Would a 1500w element work for just the mash tun?

My thought is maybe not, unless its just for holding temp, but in that case you would really want recirculation...

Why couldn't you just get a large 240 volt plug for your supply and unplug your electric stove and plug in your pigtail for your still in the same outlet?

Thomas edwin amp draw. So you'd need to make a custom "illegal " two plug extension. But on house wire if you trying to run say the dryer and the burners at the same time you run a serious risk of melting the wire in the wall and or catching it on fire. It's not a good idea. Nation electric code states clearly 220 and hire CAN NOT BE SLIPT. And it for that reason. I'm a master industrial technician trust me I've tried it it doesn't end well. Hope that helps.

Alex Weedon, Maybe I'm reading the question wrong, but it looks to me like he is suggesting unplugging the range/ oven while plugging in the kettle. Only downside I see to that is having to move the oven to reach the outlet every time you want to brew.

@@TM-dh2xb yes TM, you are quite right, it meant removing the drier then using its socket.

You don't quote any prices.

For the record that side ways prong does not mean it's 20 amps. It means it's 208 volts. And yes that's very different than 240 volt. But I won't go into phases and delta wave. 208 is standard 20 amp and higher. But that's a very dangerous amount of current to be putting through a appliance that's meant for 110-115 volt. Don't mean to sound mean but as a master industrial tech I just want people to be safe. So I figured I'd lend my expertise on that point. How ever I love the rest of the break down in the video. I subbed. Keep it coming.

i do hope your actually NOT a master industrial tech...because you are so wrong there...... the receptacle that he mentioned thats just like a regular 120 volt 15 amp household receptacle except the neutral prong is a T instead of a straight blade IS EXACLTY what he said it is... it is a 120 volt 20 AMP receptacle... NOT 208 volt......you only find 208 volt on three phase systems......... and there is no standard 208 volt receptacle.. you use the same ones for 240 aswell...
