the comments in the video are basically hate comments, you're absolutely right. Erika Vikman participated in UMK in 2020 with her song 'Cicciolina', which is a lighthearted song about female empowerment through sexuality. as you can imagine, she got incredibly awful comments, people were going after her looks, her weight, her relationships, anything that they could think of. it got pretty misogynistic pretty fast. Käärijä has also gotten some heat for being 'embarrassing' and 'clownish', and the entire Eurovision trip was really hard on him. they made this song together to raise awareness that artists are human beings and that the hate comments actually hurt - but that they live off of the attention too, in some masochistic way (hence, the 'whip' metaphor).

Erika is absolutely fabulous doing her thing.

Even if you don't react to it here, you owe it to yourself to watch the UMK live performance of this... trust me 😉 Also the video (the message of the video) goes off at a tangent from the original intention behind the lyrics which was a broader thing about how life "whips" you. Of course the recent "whip" experiences of Kaarija (and Erika) include a lot of online abuse

You really need to see the live performance from UMK 2024!! On this video, the alien-like look also makes them appear less human, and easier to target by the haters. Typerä pelle means 'stupid clown', one of the real messages written about Käärijä. Käärijä and Erika are also wearing thick protective suits to try and deal with all the online negativity.

You really caught and put to words the whole essence of this song so well. The word "interesting" is really the best word to describe everything Käärijä puts out there. Also the fact that his songs are often really catchy and upbeat, but there could be a deeper meaning in there, too. I looove the UMK NF performance of Ruoska, it's pure 🔥🔥🔥 love it love it love it!! Have had it on repeat so many nights now 😅 But it was a real whiplash to come to this video after vibing with it so hard, the message behind this is a good one and this is an clever way to try to get people to realise the artists and other people you're talking to online, are real people too.

It is somewhat decent translation 🤔 With some slight mistakes of course. It gets confusing when there are sayings or idioms that do not exist in english 😅 And Käärijä songs are full of those.
