    This movie from Mel Gibson is a masterpiece! He is the first one who really tried to show the world what really was like the Passion. Yes it was brutal and extremely painful. And yes Jesus felt alone and he withstood all that pain by himself, being condemned despite being innocent, and being betrayed even by one of his closest friend, Peter.

    I remember reading this thinking "Why would the Son of God say this" as a Teen. Only years later did I read the Psalm. It was very profound. It hit me. Christ, on the cross was still Teaching. He was saying "read it" (People knew the Word then) "they pierce my hands, and my feet" "they cast lots for my vesture". Amazing.

    @Caleb H It's a reference to Psalm 22 In that psalm, attributed to King David, the writer/speaker calls out to God to save him from his enemies, before being saved and praising God in the final 10 verses Jewish tradition was that by citing a single line, you cite the whole passage. When Jesus says "my God, my God, why have you forsaken me", it's not Jesus saying that literally and in isolation, as it is often misinterpreted. It's Jesus owning and identifying Himself with that Psalm. The Psalm itself becomes a kind of allegory, because the salvation at the end of the Psalm is now recast as a foreshadowing of Jesus' resurrection Post-edit: I was given poor catechesis as a youth and was told that Christ saying this was indicative of His human element expressing suffering. I've grown to realise that's not the case, and what I said above is true.

Rather, Christ is quoting Psalm 22, identifying Himself as the Messiah. He didn't experience the wrath of Almighty God, rather He made satisfaction for sin by meriting graces to expiate the sins of all mankind. These graces are applied to those who are baptized and are born again by water and Spirit and through the other sacraments Jesus Christ established.

    I hear you. I was thinking the same thing. Paul said there is no condemnation for "those who are in Christ Jesus". Jesus said, "Remain in me as I remain in you." This scene shows you what it means to be in Christ. Jesus would rather go through the utmost torture and agony than disobey God's will for his life, for even a moment. Look at how he let his body be broken and destroyed before he would allow himself to sin. This is the same attitude we have to have as members of his body. We have to fight sin with every ounce of our strength, until we have no strength left, and even then we must still not sin. Because we are "in Christ Jesus". This is what it means to have Christ formed in us. To be reborn as children of God, with the Spirit of God's own Son living in our hearts. Never stop fighting.🙏

    Or simply defining the true "Messiah" through Prophecy, Jesus quoted Psalms 22 fulfilling the suffering servant in the Prophets' writings, something any Jew should know, Jesus is always fully divine and human, "It is finished" refers to a prophecy and Covenant as well, which is way back from Adam and Eve about the "seed" and the finally the New Covenant which is mentioned many times along with the Messiah.

    @@theonewhoismany8072 Read the scriptures more in depth, it’s pretty clear what happened. Outside of Genesis, it’s made painfully clear that the Lord does not cause us to sin, nor does he want us to sin. And the free will thing is not an argument but just a description of what “created in our image” means. We only get the little excerpts in Genesis from the time of Eden, but it’s clear that Adam and Eve have free will to do as they please in the garden. If God wanted he could have made them without free but then that goes against the point of making us in his image, that’s a big part of his image. I will also say that trying to discern the mind if God is always futile for us. We just simply are not capable of understanding His will.

  • @theonewhoismany8072

    @theonewhoismany8072

    Жыл бұрын

    @@Tony-cm8lg This is such a copout argument. As i've already said free will doesn't exist with an omniscient god and they are so clueless and inocent not ever having heard a lie that their abillity to use the free will is nonexistent. God literally set them up for failure willingly. What he did is literal entrapment. It was a setup, big time.Why put such a risky tree in the garden if he loves his children?Moreover, why draw so much attention to the tree if the consequences would be serious, extreme?When he tells them that any fruit from any tree is fair game, except that tree, God leads them by the nose, apparently to focus on the tree.Then God warns them that the punishment for either disobeying him or for eating the fruit is evil itself.Then the serpent appears and God must have created the serpent because, a few pages back, God created the universe and everything. This serpent or agent of God convinces them to eat the fruit from the tree.They were caught in a great mind game. To note: God does punish Adam and Eve (metaphorically, people)-God takes away their immortality and makes childbirth painful and casts them from paradise. Then they have two sons and one will murder the other because God plays another mind game. This time, it’s not a game of temptation, it’s a game of playing favorites, inciting homicidal, fratricidal jealousy. Even though God punished Adam and Eve (all people) already, the setting up of the fruit mind-game later becomes known as “original sin.” Those two words don’t appear in the Bible together. Original sin is like a second punishment, by double jeopardy, and people are born guilty of original sin and so this requires redemptive salvation by believing Jesus was an immortal god and saved you from [original] sin by “dying” Ironic quotes around “dying” because of the use of the word immortal as in “immortal god.” Being considered guilty as a condition of birth is unjust, unfair to the core. And so if God is all-knowing, then God also knew everything that was going to happen due to His shenanigans and shamelessly created their interest or curiosity in the fruit. Then after being setup, then he had to have known that he would subsequently punish them for their act. If God is all-powerful, then he had in his own control the entire time to avoid all of it, the tree, the snake, the punishment, all of it. edit: We can go further and question a particularly important assertion made previously above: Then God warns them of the punishment for either disobeying him or eating of the fruit was evil in itself. Adam and Eve are punished for eating from the tree of knowledge, God warns them that they “will surely die” if they do eat from the tree. The serpent contradicts what God said, claiming that they will not surely die. The punishment after they eventually eat of the tree can only be justified for two reasons, for either: disobeying God or, what he told them eating from the tree is a bad or evil act in itself This is actually a timeless question much like the question of Euthyphro from Plato’s Dialogues. The basics of the question refer directly to Divine Command Theory, as the moral foundation of many religion with a personal God. Here is a re-wording or modern translation of Euthyphro’s question,* which asks, in two parts: Does God command X because X is right? Is X right because God commands X? Which one is it? *(Rachels, James, The Elements of Moral Philosophy, 4th ed.) If God commands X because X is right, then he does so because X is right in itself, independent of God, and is right whether God exists or not or if God even has an opinion or knowledge of X. This choice only leaves some entity other than God as what determines what is right. If X is right because God commands X, then anything commanded by God would be right, anything he did do or decides, as described in the narrative or description of god, is right, period, and end of story. God could command that wearing underwear on the outside of one’s pants and telling everyone who asks, that it’s “outerwear” is righteous, and so it would be. This choice confirms that any X would be right and even the narrative or description of God, even with the capricious and all-too-human God, is always right. This is not a trick question but an important question about the nature of God or the descriptions of God that are offered. It seems that divine command X = not eating from the tree, for no other reason than because he said so, considering that he created the earth, the garden and everything in it. But we know it was a setup mind-game already. So instead of the Bible being a happy narrative, it is much about a God who is all too human.

Jesus had an unwaivering faith in his creator and even the tortures by the damned didn't didn't break him. God dmturning his back for a moment was what broke Jesus. If you have then you must see its a fulfillment of the crucifixion and the punishment required for the forgiveness of sins. Yes he was as low as can be "I am a worm" , but God never left him as he is God just the same as the Holy spirit is God. Even to a people unknown they shall proclaim he has done it.

    Asked a priest once, why do i suffer so much, his response "Be proud of that suffering, you know who else suffered? Jesus, so count yourself lucky God cares enough about you to make you go through that suffering" Made me feel good but theres always that voice in the back of your head that is still unsatisfied, so i always come and see this scene to remind myself that there was someone who suffered a lot more than i did. So why does God allow us to suffer is the big question, many answers but the most believable one is to see if your love and faith is unconditional, if you love god only for what he provides then where is the true faith in that.

    There is a reason why Jesus shouted, "My God, My God! Why? Why have You forsaken Me?" Because God is pure holiness. He hates sin. He is angry with sin. And Jesus is the Son of God who bore all the sins of mankind from the penalty of eternal death through crucifixion. Jesus was separated from God spiritually because He bore the sins of mankind, not because He sinned. He bore the sins of mankind before God. But God's eyes were too pure to see all that, God left Jesus. Then Jesus said, "It is finished." it means that Jesus' task to save mankind is finished, has ended, has been accomplished. Then He laid down His life, and died physically.

    Jesus Christ died on the cross for your sins. His shed blood forgave all your sins, he rose from the dead on the 3rd day. Believe in these good news and you have eternal life. Matthew 26:28 “For this is my blood of the new testament, which is shed for many for the remission of sins.” Isaiah 53:5 But he was wounded for our transgressions, he was bruised for our iniquities: the chastisement of our peace was upon him; and with his stripes we are healed. John 14:6 Jesus saith unto him, I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by me. John 11:25-26 Jesus said unto her, I am the resurrection, and the life: he that believeth in me, though he were dead, yet shall he live: And whosoever liveth and believeth in me shall never die. Believest thou this?

    Psalm 28 1 Unto thee will I cry, O Lord my rock; be not silent to me: lest, if thou be silent to me, I become like them that go down into the pit. 2 Hear the voice of my supplications, when I cry unto thee, when I lift up my hands toward thy holy oracle. 3 Draw me not away with the wicked, and with the workers of iniquity, which speak peace to their neighbors, but mischief is in their hearts. 4 Give them according to their deeds, and according to the wickedness of their endeavors: give them after the work of their hands; render to them their desert. 5 Because they regard not the works of the Lord, nor the operation of his hands, he shall destroy them, and not build them up. 6 Blessed be the Lord, because he hath heard the voice of my supplications. 7 The Lord is my strength and my shield; my heart trusted in him, and I am helped: therefore my heart greatly rejoiceth; and with my song will I praise him. 8 The Lord is their strength, and he is the saving strength of his anointed. 9 Save thy people, and bless thine inheritance: feed them also, and lift them up for ever.

    You can tell the look on the face of Jesus when he says It is Finished that he knew his Sacrifice was done and that he had paved the way home for people...and you can bet he was very happy to know that it was done

    In the beginning was the word. The word was with God and the word was God. Yeshua Messiah was the word everything was created by him for him. If you don't believe that's fine because Yeshua Messiah is still there and true Yeshua doesn't need your approval or your belief that is why we are granted freewill to choose. Remember God does not send us to eternal torment (Hell) that was our choice so choose wisely. Trust in God through His son Yeshua Messiah. Remember EVERY knee will bow and EVERY tongue WILL confess Yeshua Messiah is Lord and on that day there will be piercing cries and gnashing of teeth for the lovers of the world and the things in the world. Repent of Your sins for the day of the Lord is approaching like a thief in the night. I beg you brothers and sisters search your heart and ask Yeshua Messiah to be the Lord of Your life. The things of this world will fade away but the things of Yeshua Messiah are eternal. I pray this in Yeshua Messiah's Holy Name Amen.

    Vorka Vaako yupp Philippians 2:9-11says: “Wherefore also God highly exalted him, and gave unto him the name which is above every name; 10 that in the name of Jesus every knee should bow, of things in heaven and things on earth and things under the earth, 11 and that every tongue should confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father.” So yeah GOD exalted his Son so that every knee would bow and every tongue confess that he is Lord, just a little thing many forget: to the glory of GOD THE FATHER.
