El Vez, the Mexican Elvis, performing with the original Elvettes & explaining how the legend began in Las Vegas, back when Elvis met Charo. This is a story I did more than 20 yrs. ago shortly after El Vez launched his career. Now all these years later, despite the novelty aspect, El Vez still has not left the building.

I just met El Vez. He was very friendly. He now lives in Mexico and says his Spanish has greatly improved to where he can now win arguments.
I saw El Vez by accident in San Diego, at a street fair, many years ago, he is a great entertainer. I was an instant fan, and am still a fan, 30 years later.

This guy went to Chula Vista High School 1978 he is very cool. we sampled music and Miss Nash's creative writing class and he hated everything except ABBA
Saw a gig with him in Malmö here in Sweden in Nov. '96, 2 days before my first of three (so far...) trips to Mexico. Got 3 CDs.
I actually remember seeing this as a kid when it first aired. The guy is still touring today. I guess you truly can make a career out of just about anything if you'll work at it.

You are aware that his real name is Robert Lopez and he was the rhythm guitarist of San Diego punk band The Zeros back in the late 70's. You are also aware that he does other musical projects besides El Vez?
He is still performing. Saw him last night at Tiki Oasis in San Diego!

I forgot how much I love this guy! I suppose now it would be frowned upon but back in the day when everyone had a sense of humor, you could make fun of yourself, your culture and of popular religious icons and it wouldn’t be the end of the world. Not to mention that he was really fucking good And really funny.
