So far if you are on PC for Steam, there's not much performance issue. Same with PS5 from my first hours of playthrough. The gameplay is fast and I don't have the loading issues whatsoever. Haven't advanced on the Switch and haven't downloaded the patch so I'm not quite sure if it improved a little bit.

This seems like the best from Suikoden 2 & 3 combined into an unofficial Suikoden 6. I cannot wait until the physical release on Switch.

You did a great job helping with the video, Valerie. Thank you for a job well done. I recently beat Eiyuden the other day, and what a journey. I have the PS4 version. Load times were obnoxious and I had quite a few crashes. Despite that, I still enjoyed myself. Maybe when I get a PS5 one day, I’ll play it again and see the differences. The card game was my favorite mini-game, with the shi’arcraft racing being my least favorite. I don’t know how I managed to do it without a walkthrough, but I managed to get all the characters. Now to get everything else. And, not bragging by any means, if you see the contributor section in the credits, you can find me in the US section. Small victory but I can cross off “get name in video game credits” from my list. I… also don’t know about the duel system that well. Still need to study that one. Hopefully you enjoy this title in its entirety as well. I would gladly do it again in a heartbeat.

Another solid review! I also checked out of the Eiyuden discord early on, so seeing the auto battle system is really cool. I actually enjoyed the gambit system from FF12, so I’ll enjoy playing around with that. And thank you Val for voicing the script! You did great, and it sounds like you had fun doing it!

God, I kickstarted this, I'm incredibly excited to play it but right now I'm finishing a replay of 12 for my partner and we'll jump to Eiyuden afterwards. Which is to say I'm afraid to spoil anything and I'm just commenting foir the algorith. Also rad of Valerie to take time out of her day to cover the voice and help out.

Looks like the dumb "localization bad" crowd in the comments is late. I've been playing it and aside from minor issues like the rather bland OST, it really is great. I'm returning to it right now btw, it really is a new Suikoden / old-school JRPG goodness, totally my jam and I'm playing this like I'm possessed : I really can't drop my controller haha. Can't say this about lots of JRPGs nowadays that either don't respect your time or fail to grab you.

Haha! I actually saw a specific video regarding that and...and oh my...negative through and through. I'm not really sure why the narrative of "bad localization" have risen. I mean there will be differences but for them to paint a game so bad just to pin down the game...hilarious truthfully. Not sure if they are just literal translation purist or just clipping those and saying its bad. *sigh. I have a conspiracy theory but I don't want to delve on that. Hehe

I have never played Suikoden but I think I will give this a try!

one of my gripes is that the party kind of just stands in the background when a scene plays and only certain characters talk during scenes. it was giving me White knight chronicles flash back with our created character just standing in the back as everyone else talks. Wish they either add to the convo to be like hey Im here too… something it just feels awkward them not saying anything as things happen. But Im likeing the game so far still only at the beginning

Game looks great! A shame it seems to be running laggy on the Switch because I do love myself a nice old school JRPG on it ^^'. It just feels so natural like this! Great review, I was sure if I was going to buy the game. But I'm convinced it worth it. ^^!!!

I mean I get that the game looks like throwback graphics, but this game is demanding. The fact it runs at all on the Switch is impressive. But this is def a current gen game. Runs great on Series X, but even my pc with a 3060 does good, but you can see it's as taxing as Cyberpunk with ray trancing enabled. Im getting 60fps.....but if they allowed more (they don't) I doubt I'd get it. That said, I LOVE Suikoden 1 and 2....and this so far (sounds like I'm around where you were when you wrote this), this game feels right at home in the franchise

From the performance and what not! Only way I'd rec for the Switch would be on a sale (likely around the 20-30 range depending on how you feel, maybe less) if they patch and fix it! That range I gave would be my pick! I'm going to get it when that sale pops up or VERY close to it digital as my Switch Oled is my only Gaming platform at the moment (Laptop is only great at playing older games like as in Baldur's Gate and Fallout 1-2 and Diablo 2 and emulation games of the SNES to PS1 era library) but I have a rule not to buy buggy needs a patch ASAP games as I might uninstall the game one day and if I buy it physical and online shuts down! I'm shit out of luck! So I will deduce a LARGE amount of the final price I'm willing to pay! As it goes "Broken Games should be bought at a Broken Game Price Tag" (I mean when you sell stuff, any damages deducts the price does it not, so why not at THEM when they sell it) I kind of predicted this would happen with the Switch Version! Basically being an afterthought even BEFORE they delayed the Physical version for it! Which SCREAMED they didn't optimized and "hoped for the best!" So Switch Owners got the "we'll fix it later!" And honestly they have till the Physical comes out to patch it for me! The longer it takes to patch, the more I lower the price range I'm willing to buy (I instead am looking at Class of Heroes 2 since I was a fan of that series back on the PSP! Funny since I ALSO was fan of Tactics OGRE back on the PSP as well! Had both games, missed them and HAPPY to get another go at them!) and if it's not patched properly by the Physical release for Switch, then it's backburned for me till I notice a REALLY noticeable sale (like most likely 15 dollars or something! I did that to Persona 5 Royal and to be fair with that one, I already knew it worked on switch quite well, I just still had beating it's Original Version back on the PS3 way long ago, so I wasn't going to buy Royal so soon till I had the game COMPLETELY out of my head that I got it just at the start of this year when it went on a sale to that level for my switch LOL! Frankly I have a HUGE backlog and I'm JUST getting into Unicorn Overlord as I put it off for WAY too long, like I bought the game on release and STILL have it in the wrapper because I was stuck trying to finish a playthrough of Three Houses.....then got bored and played Dragon's Dogma for abit till I got it out of my system and went back to Three Houses.....Restarted and only NOW about to complete the run! I hate leaving things unfinished, but NOW I can finally play the damn game and continue from where the demo left off! I seriously need to manage my time with my games better! But frankly I DO love Suikoden, may the creator RIP, and I want to try this game as it looks GOOD and lets be real if the Switch version of Suikoden I & 2 Koonami keep saying is coming works well! That fuck up of this games Switch port will be akin to how Inafune fucked up Mighty Number 9 so bad, he practically GAVE the sales to Capcom who FINALLY realized Mega Man IS loved! Note how the LEGACY Collections only came out when Mighty Number 9 was hyped! Now note how the Suikoden Duology and 3 are now getting Remasters all of a sudden with Eiyuden Chronicle was hyped and got a RELEASE DATE! They said NOTHING till then! That shows Konami are copying Capcom! But the Metal Gear Collection that came out DOES leave pause on if they'll do this right or get lazy! The PS1 Suikoden shouldn't be hard, but this is Konami we're talking about! They fucked up METAL GEAR SOLID 1 ON THE SWITCH! HOW DO YOU MESS THAT UP?! But hey if they can get them to work even BETTER then on the PS1, Eiyuden's creators ARE going to feel the loss of Switch sales! But pretty much everything is likely getting a "Buy on Sale" even the upcoming SMT5 Vengeance for me and I did like SMT5 back when it came out! I first have to see if that one doesn't suffer a "Eiyuden" where the Switch version was an afterthought and really that would be messed up seeing how SMT5 FIRST CAME OUT ON THE SWITCH! So I would be surprised how they fucked that up somehow!) Sad, but I guess it's for the best as it gives my HYPER MIND an excuse to not buy it right away (especially when Mother's day is coming up and a Birthday to a loved one in the same month! So my wallet is going to be TIGHT for awhile LOL

No patch, i only played 3 hours but to me the only thing that is annoying is the loading between battles My eye dont notice the fps but maybe is just me lol I have a xbox series s but i like playing on the switch and on the oled screen looks good imo Again, i dont care too much about fps and pop in so i dont notice it that much So far, for me, is good enough honestly Do i hope they patch it up ? Of course i do. And i think they will. If you are sensitive to performance issues and you can notice it, maybe get for ps5 Im sorry about my english im not from usa lol

So far, I'm loving this game- even on switch where some reviewers are acting like this game is trash on the Switch. Not so. Not even close. I will say that everything is amazing imo minus 2 things: random encounters ARE really tedious after a while, and entering and navigating through menus is a bit slow. If they could drop the encounter rate (dungeons) just a bit, I'd be happy and the menu thing I pray will be worked out in a patch. I've only played it on switch.

Drop the encounter rate??? I don't think it's that high at all! I do agree that the game feels SLOW. Man if I had my own voice and didn't get sick there was a lot more I wanted to extrapolate on but alas... I'm glad you're loving the game, even on Switch. While listen I love the game so far, the performance issues are difficult to ignore.

You are amazing and Eiyuden is amazing

The first duel of the game is RNG. The break option can fail so if you get to phase 4 it's pretty much a coin toss as to whether you win or not. I've seen people say they managed to win at level 22. I grinded to level 26-27 and still had to reset half a dozen times to finally win. Stats or at least levels do affect both the duels and war battles. I took significantly less damage as my level increased in both modes you can also see the stat changes in the war battles.

I just beat this earlier today had fun with this but the game crashed over 15 times in my 55 hrs playthrough on switch it crashes everytime I do some upgrading to my town or me just using the teleporter or Cassie when I'm at the castle town loved the game u just picked and played it on the wrong platform Prather than that the frame rate and slow loading times didn't really bother me much just the constant and random crashes that made me save almost every time I ran into a save point because I was scared to lose major progress I wanted this on switch but man I didn't think k it was gonna be this bad on there

I’d say most Suikoden music was never really impactful outside of the song at night before the final clash where you go around talking to everyone, and the openings were always great. I’m waiting on that Switch physical. They have a month to fix the issues.

Oof, I think I'm gonna keep out from this for now until they patch things out for the switch performance.

Playing on an xbox one and really enjoying it so far, though to be honest, the load times after battles are quite irritating, making the random encounters more of a slog than yhey should be and in the menu cycling between inventory and other screens is frustratingly long. These are small points but leave a bad first impression. The game has been poorly optimised, it looks spectacular style wise but it should not be this resource intensive. That feels like a harsh critique for a game im loving so far as a massive suikoden 2 fan though im only at the beginning.

@PelvicGaming As an update to this, I streamed this through xbox live and it runs waaay faster. Like it clearly is supposed to. It shouldn't have to be but this is a "next gen" game that's gonna need an xbox series S or X to play smoothly.

Hello, my advice to you is just play the game :) Personally, numbers are just numbers. Each experience will be different from person to person and playing the game yourself, you can gauge if this is really a bad game, story-wise. But I do agree with the other comments, if you are planning to play this game, play it on anything other than the Switch :D. Oh, and so far, I'm loving the game. You just need to remember that the template of this game is "Suikoden" so you might want to a look at the gameplay, mechanics etc. If you like turn-based JRPGs with a massive roster of characters to recruit, hours of well-developed storytelling, a ton of mini-games, castle/base building improvements, a little bit of strategy warmode etc, this is for you. I will also agree with Lady Pelvic that the music is weak but not to the extent that it is bad or anything.

As a fan of Suikoden, I'm tempted to pick this game up. But I personally don't vibe with its presentation. It looks like a cheap mobile game to me. Now knowing it has menu lag, I think I'll wait until I can get it on the cheap.

I backed this, eagerly waited years for it, played it for 20-30 hours, and found it terribly disappointing. Now it simply collects dust.
