Eileen's Bowling Buddy Skills Training Series Lesson 3 - Repeatable Lay Down

In this lesson we are covering the importance of having a repeatable lay down point and the effect it has down the lane, along with action and reaction through the swing. Then we'll show you drills using the Alignment Trainer that you can do at the lanes. Apology: when we get to the lanes in this video we had a microphone issue, so the sound isn't great, but we think you will be able to still get the message. We'll get it right next time!! Thanks for watching!

I believe I understand your theory of the 2x2x2 that you want to be in the center of the 2" zone at the end of the first 2 feet. This theory works great assuming you are always playing straight up the boards. Launch angles are part of the game so there will nearly always be an angle across the actual boards. The key would be to lay the tape at the intended launch angle and be able to repeat hitting the center of that 2" area. Also not taken into consideration in your video is the variance in laydown distances of players. I can honestly say my ball probably rarely is on the lane within the first 2 feet because I am a taller (6'2") and heavier bowler. This makes my release point a bit higher and I tend to loft more in the 3-4' range.

That is such a great point. It's so important to understand and see what your ball is doing in that first 2' of your laydown - wherever it is and whatever angle you are using. We'll do more videos around this and test the theory further. Thanks for your feedback! :)

I would love to see pro bowlers use this and actually see their lay down. Definitely straight players like Liz Johnson or Mike Fagan. Francois lavoie (if I spelled that) would also be great for this specific topic which was a straight shot lay down. I'd love to see how close they actually are. I also had a question regarding if your looking at the arrows, how will you know where you're laying the ball down if you're in tournament or league play?

I don't think you need two sticks at the foulline! The right one would be enough to keep the arm inside because your leg is already there to delimit the swingpath

If my push away starts just above the waist, with gravity taking over, the backswing ends just above the waist, unless I pull it up, which is bad. Correct?

Hey, hoping someone could comment, or if not maybe I'll shoot you guys an email. I'm a collegiate bowler (our team is not very good, most of us only bowl for fun) but I and at least two others on the team like sport bowling but we need as much practice as we can get without a real coach. So I was wondering which products of yours could we get the most use out of? Swing trainer seems like a fundamental part of bowling that would be a huge asset to the team and myself that we could get some responsive feedback immediately without having a coach on hand. Any thoughts or opinions?

Valuable lesson here, but I think it could have been summed up much more quickly. Two vectors originating at the same point that diverge in different directions will get further and further apart the longer you travel down the line. I mean, duh. That's basic geometry. It's the reason why none of the rooms in any of your houses are ever perfectly squared.

at 10:47 you just proved your theory wrong (dropping in slot). else, you wouldn't have hit the sticks. Also doing so makes the cardinal sin of displacing the ball and away from your center of gravity. Only wheelchair bowlers can drop it in your so called slot because they don't have body/shoulder rotation. Put a camera on top, you'll see that its never a straight line from the drop to the release.. just my 2 cents
