시놉시스: 84세의 김옥순 할머니는 어느 날 치매 판정을 받는다. 손녀인 김나연 감독은 엄마 같은 존재였던 할머니와의 시간을 기억하기 위해 할머니와의 일상을 기록하기로 한다.〈옥순로그〉는 손녀의 시선에서 아빠가 세상을 떠난 후 치매가 시작된 할머니와 함께 사는 한 남매의 일상을 기록한다. 요즘 같은 세상에 요양원을 먼저 생각했을 테지만 김나연 감독과 동생은 치매에 걸린 할머니와 함께 살기로 한다. 그러나 그 과정이 당연히 쉬울 리 없다. 할머니의 치매는 점점 심해지고, 심지어 기억을 왜곡한다. 처음엔 할머니가 치매에 걸린 척하는 것 같다며, 할머니와의 동거를 쉽게 생각했던 동생은 시간이 갈수록 할머니의 이해할 수 없는 행동에 화를 참지 못한다. 카메라는 가족의 구성원이 되어 외부인은 절대 다가갈 수 없는 거리에서 가족들의 모습을 솔직하고 가감 없이 담아낸다. 가족은 너무 잘 알고 가까워서 깊게 이해할 수 있지만 세상 누구보다 치열하게 싸울 수도 있는 존재다. 그래서 가족 간의 사랑은 싸우고, 화해하고 울고 웃는 과정에서 더 깊어진다. 영화는 손녀가 치매 걸린 할머니의 일상을 기록하기 위해 시작되었지만, 이 과정을 통해 남매는 할머니와 함께 사는 법을 배우며 성장한다. 다소 거칠지만 치매에 대한 이렇게 솔직하고 따뜻하고 감동적인 기록은 본 적이 없다.
One day, 84-year-old Kim Oksoon is diagnosed with dementia. Her grandaughter, a film director Kim Nayeon, decides to record her daily life to remember the time she spent with her grandmother, who was like a mother to her. Through the eyes of the grandaughter, Oksoonlog records the daily life of siblings living with their grandmother, whose dementia began after the death of her son, the siblings’ father. At first, the director’s younger brother, who thinks his grandmother is faking her dementia, does not expect much trouble living with her. But as time goes by, he becomes increasingly angry at his grandmother’s incomprehensible behavior. The camera becomes a member of the family and captures their lives in a frank and unflinching way from a distance never imagined nor approached by outsiders. Family is close enough to understand them deeply, but it can also be your worst enemy in a fight. Nevertheless, a family’s love is deepened through quarrels, reconciliations, tears, and laughter. This project simply began as a grandaughter’s attempt to record grandmother’s daily life, but it eventually turns into a coming-of-age story where the siblings are growing up and learning to live with their grandmother. Although it’s a bit rough around the edges, there has never been such an honest, warm, and touching documentary about dementia.
