3년째 운영되고 있는 홋카이도의 우라카와 캠프는 휠체어에서 생활하는 아이들을 위한 스포츠 클럽이다. 장애아동과 비장애 아동이 함께 교육받는 이른바 통합교육은 그 자체로 중요하지만, 장애아동이 그 속에서 학교생활을 하려면 많은 어려움을 이겨내야 한다. 이 영화는 학교에서 상처받은 아이들이 농구와 야구 같은 스포츠를 통해, 그리고 부모 없이 떠나는 짧은 여행을 통해 성장해 가는 모습을 담는다. 장애인 교육은 단순히 복지나 시혜 같은 것이 아니다. 교육을 통해 장애가 있는 한 인간을 비장애인들과 똑같이 세금을 내며 살 수 있는 인간으로 만드는 것이다. 이 짧은 다큐멘터리는 그 당연하지만 고단한 과정을 겪으며 성장하고 있는 아이들과 부모, 그들을 위해 애쓰는 헌신적인 교사의 모습을 따뜻하게 담아낸다.
The Urakawa Camp in Hokkaido, which has been running for three years, is a sports club for children in wheelchairs. Integrated education, in which disabled and non- disabled children are educated together, has a noble cause, but children with disabilities have to go through many difficulties to attend such schools. The film shows how children who have suffered in regular schools grow through sports like basketball and baseball, and through a short trip in the absence of their parents. Education for the disabled is not just about welfare or handouts. It’s about turning
a person with a disability into a person who can self-support and pay taxes like everyone else. This short documentary warmly captures the children, their parents, and the dedicated teachers who work hard for their students as they go through this naturalbutarduousphase.
