Arcs like Egghead Island really prove how Oda's writing completely justifies how long One Piece is. Everything we know now about Kuma, Bonney, the Celestial Dragons etc wouldn't hit half as hard if we hadn't spent so many chapters with characters like this, teasing out mysteries about them, growing to love (or hate in the C.D case) them even more with more painful and impactful context and the power of hindsight.

Just the fact Saturn, Kuma, Kizaru, Lucci, and vegapunk all have a role in this arc already puts it as one of the top from how long some of these characters have been foreshadowed or hyped up

Fun fact: the original use of the word "tyrant" just meant someone who came to power without the city or state's usual method of deciding on a ruler being employed and there was no negative connotation. The negative side only came into existence during the middle ages where Divine Right and inheritance were that usual method. Kuma fits this earlier definition perfectly.

Egghead as you said definitely feels like a chess board set up arc, to line everything up for the final saga. Especially all the parts where we take our attention away from Egghead and the Strawhat crew itself and turn to other major world players (Shanks and Kidd, Blackbeard and Law, Sabo in the Reverie, The world government and their new weapon) there's just so much in this arc that's being answered and at the same time set up for further developments. It's great.

The mystery surrounding Egghead unfolds as an exploration of the inner self, posing the question, "Which aspect of your psyche has betrayed you?" Picture it like the concept of Inside Out, where the absence of sadness is explored. The answer, of course, is embedded in the traitors identity. York embodied the pull toward comfort-tempting us to indulge in eating, sleeping, and idleness. It's the part of us working against us. However, the aspect of ourselves eager to take risks, embodied by Lilith, even in situations deemed unwise, remains steadfast and doesn't betray us. So, while York may entice us to squander our lives in comfort, the daring side of ourselves, unafraid to take risks, stands as a loyal ally even when. Vegapunk got this wrong by labeling Lilith, as the aspect of evil.

I'm so happy to hear defense for the revolutionary army's position. You said everything on my mind and more. The reader is positively lucky to follow Luffy, who is the exception to the rule and not the standard that everyone else can uphold. We get spoiled by the consistent feeling of catharsis that is free-agent Luffy (force of nature) inflicted upon the delicate structures and factions within this story. It seems like everyone else is getting judged unfairly because of it. We've only discovered recently that Luffy is literally blessed by a supernatural force that (if he weren't already inclined previously) makes him predisposed to liberating peoples. And this power is something he's slowly been acclimating to and making his own over the whole story. Everyone else is very realistically limited by one thing or another. We still don't really know a damn thing about Dragon, but I like to think that he's proud as hell that his son is doing his job so well. (Since we don't know anything yet, I look at Wyper as a precursor example of what Dragon is likely to be as a leader. For reasons. Curious to see if that plays out with any similarities.)

He's never said he can't push bonney's sickness out of her, but has mentioned that he can't just create bubbles because they will eventually return to the user... and now Becori has made a reappearance and is clearly pissing him off. What if he pushed bonny's sickness out of her, grabbed Becori, threw him into the bubble, dragged him outside and forced him to die immediately because of the sun.

After reading this backstory I immediately wanted to punch some Celestial Dragons and thought of the time Luffy did. Then I told myself “it’s going to be okay Luffy will punch out every last Celestial Dragon he can get his fists on”

Imagine, kuma takes on bonneys disease and then to combat it had to become a cyborg but that might be too far fetched because kumas ability is more idk

I do want to suggest a new book series to be reviewed by you. The Booms by J.B. Currently 3 volumes and is their first work as far as I know. I feel I am not versed enough to give a proper critique but I can say that it has some character types I do not see often in books. Buzzard is best boy; I really root for him.

Egghead is also one of the most uniquely structured arcs in One Piece, it is like the Reverie arc expanded with all the lore dumps and huge things happening all around the world. Garp and Koby and BB pirates. Law and Kidd and BB and Shanks. Is Gorosei making moves and probably introducing a new power? Sabo flashback. Weird ancient Robot. Emperor Luffy v Admiral. God Valley, more about Rocks, the incident, and disgusting Celestial Dragons, and now this absolutely heartbreaking Kuma flashback. Egghead might end up being my all-time top 3. I believe Kuma will get his memories back and will see Nika saving his daughter and sending everyone to Elbaf before he is killed by Saturn. But, I'm also curious why was that ancient robot introduced and where it ties in.

This arc has been amazing and really feels like we’re in endgame now. Kuma’s backstory revolves around the horrors of the Government and Celestials, the God Valley Incident revolves around the horros of the government and Celetials, and the Egghead Incident is already revomving around the Government and Celestials and how horrible they are. Feels like we’re FINALLY taking on the Government itself as an enemy, and now we see just how evil they’ve been the WHOLE TIME. What a time to be a One Piece fan.

My prediction before I get to yours: Kuma pushes Bonnie's disease out and then pushes her "away" to one of the places she mentioned before. Then he takes on the disease himself and engages in what he thinks will be a fight to the death. Then CP shows up with the Warlord deal. We'll get you in touch with somebody who can "cure you" if you do what we say. edit: and that's your theory too. neat.

Egghead is like WCI with much more info. I love WCI and for me WCI is top 2 arc of OP (Paramount war is top 1 obviously). I am loving Egghead as it shaping to be one of my top 5 arcs of one piece for me.

I personally appreciate that Oda kept the ambiguity of what Bonnie and Ginny went through. I feel like having to many details will take away from the emotions of the story. Keeping us from knowing is the right call. It just fits with the themes

We always knew what the Celestial Dragons did to their slaves through Boa. But seeing Ginny become pregnant, and then thrown away after having a Celestial Dragons baby, is sickening.

I think the murder mystery was a fun thing oda wanted to do to kind of interact with the weekly readers. In the moment, it was a fun way to get through the setup for the actual plot; generating a bit of buzz about which Vega punk was the villain. reading it all in one sitting just doesn’t work as well.

Someone mentioned how with all the Pacifista around, even if Kuma's original body dies maybe he could still live on if his memory bubble is given to one of the Pacifista? I think Kuma probably regains his old self at least for a bit, partly for Bonney and partly because he would be a good person to tell the crew about Nika, since none of them seem to really know the true nature of what's been going on with Luffy's powers lately
