Eflite P-47 Razorback 1.2M RC Plane - Review, Build tips and how to takeoff and land

The new/updated Eflite P-47 Razorback 1.2M RC warbird is an amazing plane that has good performance and predictable flight characteristics with 1/2 throttle. Crank up the throttle and she's very zippy for sure. In this video I show some building tips and modifications and walk through the take-off and landing characteristics for smooth scale looks.

    Its a wonderful plane for sure. If you are familiar with takeoff with a tail dragger then you'll have no issues. If this is your first tail dragger, you might want to watch my "How to take off a tail dragger" video.. This P-47 will turn hard left on takeoff without the proper technique.. Have fun.. Will

    Outstanding review Will! I knew you'd like it. Really a great flyer. Good tips man. I like to keep the wires tidy as well. I use squishy foam to hold them in place. Easy to remove if you need to get at the wires. You fly it well, great thoughts on landing and practice.

    Thanks Adam.. Appreciate the comments and support.. The squishy foam is a good option too. I just tack glue a little with foam tac, so I can remove it easily if required. The plane flies really well. Not as locked in at my P51 yet. I have more tweaking to do on some controls, but we are getting there... You know I'm a fanatic about landings.. So many planes are messed up on poor landings.

    I like how you get your model ready for flight. And the flying and landing practice were very well done. This plane is able to do some nice scale flying, but if you can't finish it off with a nice scale landing, it is a little sad. You might be quite busy, but if you do have a little time - you might like to check out a good video I came across on YT. It is called: "Thunderbolts - The Conquest of the Reich". It is in color and was filmed during the last part of WW II featuring P-47s similar to this E flite example. Cheers!

    Thanks. Glad you like it. These are stock wheels on the mains. I used a Dubro Foam lite on my 1.2m P51 and it does make a difference. I just haven’t gotten around to changing them on the p47. 😀

    You're gonna love this plane. I flew the P51 without a Gyro for a long time.. This plane is no different. I have the BNF, but wouldn't need a gyro in it.. Super stable flyer.. I typically fly with 4S, but I'm surprised at how well it handles the 3S.. (Due to its higher KV motor). It does burn through a battery more then the other 1.2M Warbirds though..

    Hey Will, was able to pick up this beauty! I have her all setup except for the CG. Manual shows 65mm +/- 3mm but I can't get it anywhere near that. I see your setup shows a 77mm CG. I'm not an advanced pilot, just intermediate at this point and don't want to have just 1 flight with this beauty if she's tail heavy. What do you recommend for CG at this point with this bird? Thanks so much! Enjoy your channel tremendously!

    You’ll love that plane. Really easy flyer. Are you using a 4s or 3s? 4S 3200mah will be better for getting CG back a little. Try to get her to 70mm +\- a few. At 65mm she’s a bit nose heavy and harder to slow down on landings. Eflite would rather error on the side of nose heavy vs tail heavy, thus the 65. Most of the guys I know with this plane have the CG back past 70. As you fly her, you can play with CG a bit. Have fun with it..

    @@SteffenRC Thanks for the information and advice. I am going to try both 3S and 4S batteries. I have a 3S 3200mah battery that weighs about 240g and 4S 2200mah batteries that weight about 230g. So unless I buy new batteries, I'm stuck with having to add weight to the nose. I'll work at getting the CG to about 70mm and let you know how it goes! Thanks again for your response and for the great content! I really, really appreciate it! - Roland

    @steffenrc One last piece of info. So I added 105g of nose weight which to me is a LOT to get this to CG with my batteries. However, I checked the weight of the Spektrum 4S 3200mah batteries and they are 100g heavier than my batteries! So I think it has all worked out! Will let you know how the maiden goes!

    Thanks for the comments Slowflyer.. Really appreciate it. I think all these Eflite 1.2m taildraggers come in the same. Touch down is fine with full flaps and modulate the speed.. The second part of the smooth rollout is another story. My P51 was a handful, while this P47 isn't a hands off the rudder plane either. You still need to plant that tailwheel and dance with the rudder, but it is easier. I think swapping out the hard tailwheel for something softer and with a bit more grip will be handy.. Sorry I can't compare to the Corsair specifically. But, comparing others landing the Corsair at my club, I'd say the P47 has better ground handling. Hope that helps, Will

    @@SlowFlyer85 this all in the throttle. Wants you got her lined up, use that throttle and a little elevator to just fly over the runway like I do in the video. Great practice for smooth landings. Also the book CG in my P51 and this P47 we’re way too far forward. You might want to slowly move the cg back and see if that helps.

  • @SteffenRC

    I thing the ground handling is a little better, but you still need to dance with the rudder. Speed? not sure, but the P51 just seems/appears faster. Maybe its the body style being sleeker.... I really miss my June Nite... This P47 is a battery hog, I'm using 3300's vs the 2200's in the June Nite for about the same flight time.

    Would you say either model was better for grass ops? Unfortunately don't have tarmac and some short-ish grass. Stepping up to a 1.4m or 1.5m really comes with a cost here in the UK and there seems to be quite limited supply of planes at the moment. Grateful for your experience! @@SteffenRC

  • @SteffenRC

    @SteffenRC

    @@JMTerry1984 I don’t have a lot of experience with grass ops with either. However I know guys are flying both on short grass. They’ll both flip if the grass is long. The P51 vert stab is stronger and less prone to damage after a flip. Where as the p47 tail will crush easier. I reinforced mine with a CF rod to help. You can add a 1-2mm spacer to the retract aft attachment screws to take the gear forward to help too.
