I grew up in a home where my mother smoked cigarettes. I hated the smell I hated the stickiness of the nicotine all over the walls and myself. All the kids said I stink and I never understood why until after I had graduated high school when someone asked me do you smoke and I'm like no they said you stink like cigarettes. That changed my emotions toward it. I became angry at my mom because she was the one That was making me smell bad and everyone was picking on me and I had no idea what it was because I had become noseblind to it after a while. I went to a doctor to get a X-ray for TB Because I was getting a job in the medical field. The doctor looked at the chart and asked me if I was a smoker and I told him no I have never smoked in my wife and he stated that 1 of my lungs looks like I have been smoking for 2 years.. Again I was angry about that. I hate cigarettes with a Passion and the smell gives me a headache and it makes me nauseous.. I don't understand why we even have cigarettes if they're so dangerous. In my opinion they should be classified with illegal narcotics

I understand, because I used to think so too, but ever since my dad started i understood that they're like any other person, the only thing is the disgusting stench and health problems. I still do hate smoking with passion, like you, but it doesn't make me hate my dad i just wish he would stop. If you say to put them in a camp, or whatever, it means you're a tad ignorant to how the world goes.

@Jen farmer Y'know, everyone should just start smoking so that they would understand how us smokers feel not being able to come into restaurants and non-smoking buildings without being able to smoke. They're just complainers. They find a way to complain about everything. I bet they wouldn't complain if they smoked a cigarette to calm down, of course. They could just keep smoking whenever they feel any bad emotions and use the cigarette as a bandaid. Wouldn't wanna see a world without cigarettes; the smokers would go homicidal, am I right?

What makes no sense is how smokers will debate the facts behind it, and it's like are they blind when they breath out the smoke they just took in? Do they think someone else can't smell that shit?

I have been exposed to second hand smoking since I was a baby, my grandma quit about 6 months ago but the damage has already been done to me, it's been really hard for me to take a good breath for quite awhile now :(

Smoking is bad for smokers but it is more worse for the secondhand smokers. I completely agree that secondhand smoking causes many health problems. we should avoid this as much as possible. There should be only specific places to smoke for smokers so that it dont cause problems to others.

This has been debunked 1000 times. Second hand smoke isn't harmful. It hardly get anything in your lungs in the first place.

This topic hits home with me. Because my grandmother passed away from smoking and when we would go over there my mom would always cough and most of the time it made her sick.

I didn't realize how quickly second hand smoke can affect another's body. I knew second hand smoke but not that bad. I wish people were more educated on this topic so they can realize the devastating effects they are having gone friends, family and even children who have no chance to protect themselves from it.

im currently a student and my fucking annoying flatmates smoke alll day long in their rooms which spread into ky room as well and i wish murdering wasn't illegal

Please do as I say and report this. See if you can get others who are affected to do the same, do some research on it's dangers and document it. It may save your health. I am a senior in living in a Senior building and facing the same problem surrounded by neighbors that smoke. It seeps in my bedroom and living quarters and has affected my heart, lungs, sleep cycle and prevented from a quality life. My bedroom smells like an old bar and my living area gets the smoke from the hall when tenants open their door. I am in the corner and all the air gets pushed in my door and gets in. Good Luck!

Kmg0 Justin Chan Believe me, that thought has entered my mind at times and then I ask God to forgive me and I pray for those neighbors that smoke to stop and get heeling. Well for 3 wks my apartment was smoke free and I learned that the reason was that my neighbor had to go to the hospitol due to her smoking. She is back and I am praying ever so hard that she doesn't start again. In the mean time I had to get a Dr's note stating that I needed a smoke free apartment which means I most likely will have to move to a different location in the building where there are no smokers. My doctor was infuriated when she learned that these people were allowed to smoke in a senior building with people that have ailment and some have COPD. She said that it was such an evil thing for them to allow people to smoke in the buildings. I will pray for you Justin and hope you do the same. Our Creator really does hear us. Luckily, well, or finally, just 2 more weeks in the apartment as my foundation year is gonna end with 2 exams in the next 7 days. My mom smoked in the car a lot. She said that "keeping the window open would get the smoke out" when in reality, the air just pushed the smoke towards my siblings and I. Because of her decisions, I suffered through asthma at 6 years old, and had to use a medicated oxygen machine for 20 minutes every day. Be mindful of your children and other people when you smoke. You aren't only ruining yourself, but others too.

My dad smokes. I’m around him a lot. As of now I’m fine but I’m concerned about my health. Another thing I’m scared about is what will my voice sound like? I’ve been doing musical theater ever since I was two, I want to pursue a career in theater, but what i can’t sing because it damage my vocal cords and lungs.

I am in high school and I live with 3 smokers. My grandma my great and my aunt. I have tryed to get them to quite for years. They won't . I don't now how to avoid it.

I live in a senior building. It is a beautiful area in DuPage County Illinois but to my surprise shortly after I moved in I learned that smokers have been grandfathered in and a number of seniors have died since I have been here, almost 3 years and most of them either smoked or died of strokes and smoke related illness. Secondhand smoke is so dangerous. I had to see my doctor because when the weather changed and the windows closed I developed a sinus infection, swollen lymph glands, headaches, tooth and gum aches, the area between my toes is purple, pain in my kidneys, eyes hurt and my vision is getting worse, heart palpitations, and breathing problems. The manger says she can't stop the smokers from smoking. Is there a law or place that can help me? I am 67 will be 68 in May. One of the tenants got a stroke and had trouble talking and one of her arms was affected and she also has trouble with her feet. . She is about my age and her apt is next to a very heavy smoker who lites up one cigarette after another according to another tenant who knows her. There are a number of people who have problems with their feet which I learned is related with second hand smoke. I feel so sick and I feel so sorry for the others that suffer like me because of the smokers. We just lost a tenant 2 wks ago. He was smoke who was found dead in his apt. He used oxygen which he always had with him at all times. He also smoked in his apt. Management did not stop him. He could have blown the apartment up and some of us with him if he happened to fall asleep with a lit cigarette or died while smoking. He died a couple of wks ago and they had a memorial in the community room for him. Why did not someone make sure he wore a cigarette patch and kept him from smoking? They have rules in this building and if you do not abide from these rules they make you move. This is a disgrace to the treatment of Seniors. Someone please help us with this matter. I don't know what to do. I am always sick since I have moved here. I am also on a limited income. I have to provide a doctors note so I can move to a different apt since I live at the corner hall of my apt surrounded by 3 smokers. They will place me near non smokers. My hair is literally falling from my head from lack of sleep and being ill all the time.Pain Meds are hurting my body too.

Alisha Westbrook Thank you Alisha, I have been ill with a sinis infection since the begining of November. I had to see a doctor for the 3rd time and besides that had to go to the ER because of the pain. The managers said that they are trying to pass a law to make all of the Senior housing smoke free. I am keeping my fingers crossed on this. I am not the only one who suffers from this, there are many people in the building that are always ill from the toxins. One lady had a stroke and has trouble speaking, she also has been diagnosed with a brain tumor, another lady had to have a double mastectomy. She is in her early 80's. We just lost a tenant who used oxegen because he had lung cancer and although he had oxegen he continued to smoke and no one in management did anything about this. His next door neighbor said he lived in fear that the guy with the lung cancer would blow up the place. I recieved a letter from my doctor to give to management to move me to a smoke free building. I pray the law will pass soon so I do not have to move. I was in so much pain today from the sinus infection that I broke down crying in the doctors office. I keep reminding myself that our Creator will help and that I must have faith. If they pass that law for Senior citazens I feel it should apply to anyone including students who live in dorms. best regards.

When my daughter comes back from visiting her mother her hair smelled like an ash tray. She smoked when we dated up to the point she was pregnant with my daughter but she's always believed that second hand smoke was a myth. Smh.

This is a serious problem. There is thousands of people who die from secondhand smoke. It is not right that just because people want to smoke, that they should smoke around others. No one including children deserves this. I believe it should be illegal to smoke around others. If you want to have that bad habit, then so be it, but it is not right that others have to suffer from your actions.

At this point, my lungs r fried. My parents were smoking around me since I was 4 months old on oxygen. I have asthma today even tho it could be really small now or non existent.

Im just tired of my parents smoking in the vehicle. Im to young to die. I don't want to die of second hand smoke. As I sit their in the vehicle my chest hurts as I can hardly breathe. They say it's fine because they crack the window but it's not fine because it's still in there. I try to take little of breathe as possible when I'm Burying my face in to my shirt because the smell is just awful. The worst part is the smell. Smelling it every time I get in the vehicle feeling like I'm going to throw up and even worst is the smell can stain your clothes and Accesories so I have to put cologne on so I don't smell like cigarette smoke when I go to school because I don't want to get made fun of for smelling like cigarettes. I sit down at night and pray for this madness to end, I can't take it anymore. Please can some one that has the power make smoking illegal or at least smoking around children in homes and vehicles. It's for the greater good.

I grew up with both parents smoking on a daily basis, i recently quit smoking after being hooked on it for 16 years, started at 18, quit 18th of August 2019 at my current age of 34. What made me being able to quit was a safe tobacco product, swedish snus and it was only one that made me completely loose my cigarette cravings and that snus is made by top tier Swedish snusproducer "Swedish Match" and is called Nick & Johnny Crushed Ice. But some people like several of my friends smoke but i make sure i keep my distance when they're smoking. And my father started smoking at 10 in 1970 and still smokes mostly 20 cigarettes a day and he got copd at like 52 and is now 59 and he became an alcoholic at maybe 35 and he has been a chronic alcoholic almost since then and he eats pretty unhealthy, almost never drinks pure water. The water he gets comes from the alcohol bewerages mostly. He became impotent at around 50. He also has 2-3 allergies, one is pollen and perhaps even an allergy to catfur and perhaps even all animals furs. He coughs a lot most of the time. Some years back he had like 30% lung capacity left if i remember correctly and now it must be even less. He coughs up mucus quite often. He can't even Cook or hardly even put a prepackaged complete meal into the oven, the only thing he can do right now is, do number 1 and 2 on the toilet, shave, shower, brush his teeth, sleep, drink, eat, smoke, talk, play games with me and sometimes also with his friends. Everything else me, my brother and sometimes his friends do for him. He seems to simply not care like he is in total denial even though he knows it is seriously harming him, he says "I'll quit when i'm ready" but the problem is that he might not have many years left if he doesn't quit real soon. It's not cool at all. It's awful.

When I see people smoke especially teens it so cringe I'm like you know it's so bad!

I was smoking as teen ( 16-19) pack a day Now im 3 weeks clean and im not coming back Im from Europe( Croatia) and in my 4grade in highschool just 8 persons didnt smoke out of 24 America is way more healthier in that way

I am 15 years old and i have a younger brother and a younger sister, and i have lived all my life living in a house That has a father smoking a whole pack each day without working. He hve smoked since he was seventeen and now he is 46 years old, but no major stuff, like something like sickness has happened to him. We have said to him so many times to stop smoking, not for him but for us, but he would just yell at us. I just wanted to tell someone this, because i have been keeping it inside for so long, and whenever i try to tell my feeling people would just laugh it out, and i do not know why

My great grandmother died of cancer at 90. She was in a lot of pain in her final years. We believe she got this cancer because my great grandfather smoked A LOT. He died of stroke in his 60s. Don’t smoke!

My parents use to smoke in the house but they stopped doing it in the house and I’m happy. They smoke outside now

No smoking outside the apartment building,but you can rev up your car and fill the air with exhaust all you want!

I am forced to move from my apt. due to my next door neighbors obnoxious habit of having the smoke enter my unit via my heating duct(s) causing me unbearable health problems. I pray that one day tobacco use will be outlawed and be classified just as dangerous or even worse than smoking Crack, Meth & even Heroin. Smoking cigarettes has been reduced to the likes of pan handlers, winos & other types of human vermin in recent months.

I hate coming home from school and covering my face to avoid inhaling the smoke. Whenever i smell it, it stings and i get angry because i cant control the stupid issue. Sometimes i wish my parents would see the consequences and decide to stop or be unable to smoke.

My parents smoke in the house and I hate it. Immediately when I walk in the door all I smell is smoke and weed.

My mom smoked when I was a baby and I can't get away from it. She still smokes

I totally agree with that.I think think parks should be smoke free too.

I work in a store where like third hand or second hand smoke is everywhere. Also they spray air fresheners and it gives me headaches. My throat gets irritated and mucus starts to form. I'm quitting in two weeks. Done with the bullshit. I hate when people wear perfume or have smoke residue.

I hate it when my dad smokes and i get migraine on multiple occasions as a result. When i tell my dad to stop bcos its giving me a headache, he'd say that I'm exaggerating. He also takes me to small get-togethers with his friends, coz he cant leave me at the house alone (my parents are divorced) coz there's no one to look after me. And his friends smoke a lot (in some occasions, they would finish a whole pack!). So I'm always surrounded by secondhand smoke. But i do know it is hard to quit, so ya

My mother smoked While she was pregnant with me and as I'm growing up I'm 14 and already have Heath problems from it.

I had no clue secondhand smoke could cause heart attacks. I am fortunate that I never had to grow up around secondhand smoke.

What if you just light the cigarette and go outside THEN smoke it, and someone else is in another room with the door closed. Can the smoke still come through into the room?

I went to my friends house twice last week and once yesterday and she was smoking weed and it's smelled and I'm hoping my lungs are not black

I went to school with a few people who smoked and tried to get me to do it too but I would always say “No! I will never do it! Those are for smokers! I’m an anti-smoker!”

We own a sari-sari store and our costumers are rude enough to exhale the cigarette right in front of us. I have mild asthma, idk. They don't care even I'm coughing and having a hard time breathing in front of them and because of them.

That sucks.My downstairs neighbor is a heavy smoker and litters with his dumb smokes.He thinks they are recyclable even thou they aren't. I get sore throats because of him.

During the 1940's,50's's and even 60's it was okay to smoke. Everybody smoked & there were no multiple health hazards. Then something happened. Tobacco companies were forced to add an array unatural lethal additives to the product which helped speed up the process of cigarette smoking to cause cancer. When I watch those old movies via TCM movie channel. I see men & women way into their 70's smoking and still having a ball in life. I myself being a former smoker have never recalled the passage of cigarette smoke stinking as it does in these modern times. Tobacco in it's natural untampored state did not bother me the way it does today. Todays additive drenched cigarette smoke reeks with deadly poisons because of new government regulations designed specifically to force people to quit. Thankfully little by little people are starting to wake up and quit. I'm smelling the shit now wafting into my apt. clouding my poor lungs & forced to share his God Dam fuckin' habit. Someone responed that he felt like killing his smoking room mate. I feel like strangling my neighbor cause I'm starting to feel sick & can't fuckin' breath until he stops. Fuck it. If I could afford to move I would. My lungs are starting to hurt now + my eyes are starting to burn. I'm sure you folks know the symptons I'm talking about. It wasn't like this 30 or 40 years ago. Now my lungs are all congested with my body fighting the second hand smoke with unneeded phlegm. The smoke has infilterated not only my apt. but my respiratory system as well.

God forbid others relax with a cigarette now and again. If it bothers you that much then open a window or go outside. There are plenty of harmful carcinogens around. People know smoking is bad for them and they choose to do it anyway even with the risks involved and that is perfectly reasonable. You just over exaggerate the risks of second hand smoke to support your claims.

There's no problem with second hand smoke.
