I feel like this film will kill off the Star Wars franchise, gut most Disney franchises, and ruin J.J. Abrams' career. It is the third movie in a trilogy...which is also trying to retcon everything from the second movie while adding enough story to the bland open-ended first film to actually finish the trilogy's story. Even without the Star Wars license, this whole "trilogy" is worse than most fan fiction, since at least the fan fiction has a beginning, middle, and ending.

Its dumb on many levels, but if she's actually melee fighting an officer-grade interceptor (which has shields) with a light sabre, then what's the point of seeing any more of the film, its gone to the silly well too many times already.

Am I the only one who thinks that line from Kylo was meant to be false and deceptive? No one should kill their past, but they must not dwell on it too much. Everyone makes a big deal out of it, but I speculate that Kylo is attempting to divert Rey from the past because he has noticed how much her past meant to her and how it could solidify her in the light side of the Force. Of course, none of this is explained in TLJ, but maaayyybbeee this is what they were trying to imply?

That didn't even get me excited when I first saw it. It was such obvious fan bait I actually groaned. Also, it's funny how the "I am fixing everything broken from the last trash fire movie" symbolism is all over this trailer. Luke's lightsaber isn't broken, Kylo's helmet is literally being repaired on screen, and they have yet another classic character that isn't essentially dead. Hollywood elites can be so vindictive to each other, it's amazing they don't commit suicide more regularly. It was pretty obvious with this trailer, imagine how much more often it happens when the hints are subtle and only obvious to the one receiving the message.

Dizzy Dial But note how the things fixed apply to Rey and Kylo only. None of the other shit (Luke) will be fixed. So Rose lives, Leia still has ridiculous moments of ooc Force use, and Finn is still fucking useless - so expect yet another pointless wonder side adventure with him that has zero impact on the main plot but looks cool and has some impact (but impact that could literally have occurred without him, you note - and maybe with two supporting characters the audience likes this time). And then Anakin appears, high fives Rey before lecturing Luke on how stupid he is.

Star Wars the Last Jedi: *Exists* JJ Abrams: “I’m gonna pretend I didn’t see that” Also: Star Wars the Force Awakens was watching a loved one fade away, the Last Jedi was watching it die painfully, and Rise of Skywalker will be 120 minutes of Mickey Mouse pissing on the grave laughing maniacally.

Luke was only with Yoda for a few days and failed the biggest lesson Yoda tried to teach him. That failure led to him saving his friends, but 30 years later it led to the creation of Kylo Ren. That lesson was, don't react out of fear. The same lesson Yoda tried to reach Anakin. Anakin felt the repercussions of failing that lesson almost immediately. Where It took Luke 30 years. The sequel trilogy connects to the OGT far more than most of you here think it does.

Luke did fail his test in the cave but Lando saved Leia and Chewbacca by helping them escape after Han was captured in carbonite and sent off with Boba Fett who was taking him in for the bounty on his head to the Hutts. Luke fell into a trap, lost his hand saved no one and almost died had Leia not felt Luke asking her for help through the force. He then returns to Yoda to train with him for a few years. Luke learned his lesson 32 or more years BEFORE TFA. Kylo happened because of a contrived story line by a poor and arrogant writer who needed Luke to be a completely different person to fit his narrative. Rey literally was only ever with Luke for 2 days and then he died because of reasons. So unless he force Ghost teaches her, the opening line of the trailer is bogus. TLJ broke Star Wars and both TFA and TLJ pissed on the ot and original characters because poor writers cant seem to find a way to introduce a new generation of characters without reconning and disrespecting the ot characters. Like TLJ all you want, it still a bad film and incoherent mess.

To be fair Kylo stabbed with his side blade thing, so the hilt of the lightsaber would hit the body. I mean it's still a stupid fucking move to hold the lightsaber back handed and use it to stab someone with a tiny side blade to tackle them, instead of just slicing them, but because he did that stupid fucking move there IS something physical to stop him from fully cutting through that guy.

Chance Smith Yeah, the hilt would hit the body, but on the other side so would the blade. So in all honesty, he would end up half cutting a man in half. Either way, the move that was seen in that trailer could not be done without cutting him in half, unless he was wearing cortosis-weave armour. I am betting JJ doesn’t even know what cortosis is, and if he does he obviously doesn’t know how rare it is.

Taylor Ramirez in games like Knights of the Old Republic on Korriban in the Valley of the Sith Lords there are sith force ghosts but they are only of the most powerful Sith Lords and they’re spiritually bound to an item of theirs that was buried with them. @@assaultspoon4925 Since Rian Johnson already ruined the trilogy beyond all hope of repair (barring some really awkward retconning), and TROS is being directed by a hack who has never pro- vided a satisfactory conclusion to anything in his career (because his bullshit "mystery boxes" are always empty), there's a real possibility that TROS will be a catastrophic train wreck, worse than TLJ, worse than anything we can imagine.

Sulfur In Legends, as with Exar Kun, sith can endure as malign presences. However, they tend to be limited to the spot they die, or coalesce. They can’t freely travel around like a force ghost can. Well, we’ll see whether Disney shit all over that when 9 drops. Not that I will be giving them my money to see it. An unbridled rage will do me just fine.

No one's ever truly gone as long as the audience will keep mindlessly throwing money at dying franchises.

Man. They literally accomplished nothing in the original trilogy, now. The empire is still just as powerful, several decades later, all of the old heroes are old and sad, and the main villain didn’t even actually die. How wonderful. Thank you, Disney.

You know what mainly has me worried about this film actually? JJ Abrams recently stated that they've basically constructed this film's story around those unused Leia scenes that they are putting in the movie, because for some reason they HAD to have Leia in this movie instead of just giving her character a funeral at the beginning. How bizarre of a concept is that? Rather than building this film's story from the ground up, they are building it around the leftover deleted Leia scenes from TFA? Seriously, JJ?! I can only imagine the ways that the narrative will suffer and make no sense due to this decision.

There's all these theories that Kylo and Rey are training during that TIE fighter scene in the beginning, lol. That's why he was being an idiot and driving right at her, and she looked so prepared and ready to do that super epic backflip move. Allegedly. Subjectively. In my opinion.

My head cannon is nothing besides Rey's introduction is real. The whole movie exists in her imagination as the only escape from her drudgery as a scrap salvager. She's playing the opening scene in her head to distract from the boring tedium of the long ride across the desert and climbing up the dune. She had to focus on what she's doing once she gets inside the Star Destroyer wreck, but once she's traded in her scrap and back in her run down, makeshift home, she can let her mind wander again and continues imagining she's gets wrapped up in a grand adventure, the famous war hero, Han Solo, is her surrogate dad, and she quests to find Luke Skywalker

It's not. I don't care that Disney paid billions to own the product. If they fuck up canon this badly, it's not canon. All these people who defend Disney so fiercely - is literally anything Star Wars canon just because it's got the Disney stamp? Suppose Episode Nine is two hours of all the characters running a marathon through the streets of Berlin - are we obliged to accept that as canon? I don't have a "head canon" or "personal canon". Using those terms means that on some level I accept this dreck as legitimate.

You guys thought Disney was done sh*tting on Luke Skywalker, didn't you? Rey ends up taking Luke's X-Wing, his Lightsaber, his home and even his name. All of the Skywalkers are dead and everything Luke and Anakin did was for nothing. Disney wasn't content to just make their OWN standalone piece of crap. They made sure they retconned the entire OT, as well. It's pretty horrifying if you think about it.

Just realised after Wolf asked where R2D2 was i worked out they will kill him off.
