Dave exposes the ECO (Nitro) OBD2 Fuel Saver as a complete SCAM!
They are supposed to talk to the car's ECU via the CAN bus on the OBD2 connector, but does it even do that?
Or is this Homeopathy for cars?

    But I bet the poor woman never got a penny in refunds. I got caught a few years ago by foolishly buying a couple of those 'miracle' air-conditioning boxes that supposedly cool down a room in minutes for a virtually negligible expenditure of electricity. Once I received the items my own (limited) knowledge of electrical engineering told me that they were not just useless but highly dangerous. The UK importer/distributor in West London didn't respond to any correspondence (neither did the Scottish firm who processed the card payment) and my local Trading Standards office just 'made a note' of the fraud but did nothing else as far as I'm aware.

I think KZread is shooting themselves in the foot by selling screen time to scammers like this, because now we all have to question the integrity of ALL KZread advertisements. I'm a mechanic and have come across quite a few scams. The most common one was the "tornado" which was a fin installed between the intake tube and the throttle body. It was supposed to create a vortex that somehow increased air density? But the worst one was a 2 piece magnet a customer wanted me to install on his fuel line. I've seen quite a few of these over the years and most claim to remove "containments", but this one claimed to stretch the gasoline molecules so that you needed fewer to generate combustion!

    And then there are those multiple grounding kits that put about a dozen extra large gauge cables throughout the engine bay.... All that extra grounding was supposed to make the engine run better and more efficiently.... "Improve Fuel Efficiency by 5% to 10% ; Increase Torque & Response; Stabilize Idling & Improve Engine Kick Over" Even though the entire chassis and frame of the car and engine block are all a solid "ground" in most cases.

It claimed to make the oil "slicker" and reduce friction which made the engine run more efficiently. it is materially impossible for a device connected to the OBD2 port to control fuelling and other parameters (eg. turbo pressure) in real time. You can remap VIA the OBD2 port but that is very very different indeed. The OBD2 protocol and other associated CANBUS protocols are for diagnostic and service functions. They are not real time protocols for the purposes of modifying the engines base and overlay maps during running.

They said that I could not get refund and then I was told that I was signed up for some buying club and there was nothing on the statements They had billed my credit card for $63 and were going to charge me another $110 but they were able to cancel the buyers club. I told the person that I did not see anything about signing up for a buying club. They would not reimburse me for the $63. My main concern when connecting this device was less that it was a scam, but more that, if connected, it could destroy the electronics in my Highlander. Thanks for the humorous review of this scam. We got this FuelSave device from a friend as a gift and I told my wife that if it was that easy to improve gas mileage, that the manufacturer of the vehicle would have done so as any improvement in gas mileage helps to sell the vehicle and make it better in the buyer's eyes. Thus, it is illogical to have a small device "correct" what a manufacturer could not manage on their own vehicle.

    I know a company that had their CAN terminator resistors made by the lowest bidder, who didn't realize that the two leads of the resistor shouldn't touch. Yes, some of their "resistors" were merely jumpers and there was a massive effort to find and correct these. I'd like to say this company changed its ways and started listening to its engineers, but of course, we all know that wasn't going to happen and they continued to screw up in similar ways long afterward.

    This is up there with the corrosion protection devices for cars that were being sold a few years ago. The claim is they worked by a mechanism along the lines of impressed (anodic or cathodic) protection. Downside is even if the device worked the vehicle would have to be fully submerged in water, which would make driving it tricky.

    I legitimately work on this stuff. Everything you said is practically correct but to expand on what you said, it's impossible to purchase anything that plugs into a CAN bus and auto learns like it claims. Each automobile manufacturer has individual ECUs that are specific to them, the car, and a number of other variables that are simply not released to anyone outside the company. Folks who reverse engineer an ECU are basically reverse engineering something called XCP. XCP is, essentially, a memory map inside the ECU where variables are stored and no two ECUs have the same memory map. There is no industry standard that states, for example, all auto manufacturers have to use some standard memory map. Hope this helps to squash the bullshit. Keep calling them out Dave!

  • @Plexico41522

    @Plexico41522

    5 жыл бұрын

    @@DFX2KX Leaning out a fuel mixture is pretty pointless and can be damaging. additional fuel economy by programming is usually achieved by cutting back on emission settings. limiting throttle plate action (example if you limit the throttle plate of a car to say 85% itll have reduced power but likely save you a bit of fuel. or limit it based on rpm say under 3000 rpm it only ever opens to 50%(most manufacturer does this to some extent)) another way is to adjust shift points in a automatic transmission because basically the more time spent in higher gears the less fuel the car will use. but also the less responsive it will be. pretty much all things that you can control while driving the car if you think about how far your pushing the gas peddle. now real reasons to reprogram a car would be if you added major performance parts like changing the cam or adding a super or turbo charger, you can disable some emissions things to gain more power. (which should only be done if its legal where you live) a big one for dodge is disabling the mds which in my opinion only really helps if your doing a lot of idling and disabling the limits on low rpm throttle action. this while it doesn't actually add any top end power. makes a car a lot more responsive.

    Not only that, but each time the ECM software changes, the memory mapping changes as well. Additionally, you can't just "change" variables/memory in the ECM via CAN. OEMs lock it down for obvious reasons. Imagine if you could plug a CAN tool into the OBD2 port on someone's vehicle and start messing around!

  • @revealingfacts4all
