EDM Producer Reacts To Angelina Jordan - I Have Nothing (Whitney Houston Cover)

Музыка

Please enjoy my reaction to Angelina's cover of I Have Nothing! I actually love how she changed the key of the song to fit a more appropriate vocal range for herself! This really allowed her to give this song the justice it truly deserves and for her to completely make it her own!
Show some love to the original video!

She sang this in Whitney’s key at around 12 years old. Someone said for this rendition, she took it down three semi-tones, so that would be, what? 1-1/2 steps? I think more than anything else, she has been cautioned about straining her voice, and I am so glad she heeds this advice to protect her unique vocals.

More in general, you should always sing in the key that fits your voice so that you can shine to the fullest :-) In her recent performances on Germany's Next Top Model, singing Love on the Brain, she showed how high she can go and it was very high indeed :-)

Angelina is well known for her fantastic covers of over 80 Artists. She also has 6 Originals Songs some of which she wrote and performed at 12. She just released an original single from her upcoming EP which we all hope will be released this month. I expect the EP will come out before any more Videos. It is our turn to buy her single, EP and her new Album also of Original Music we think will be released in September. Sales will determine a lot for the next six to 12 months such as size of venues for concerts, award nominations, etc.

I would have preferred it if they had made the backing track for her rather than used one from KZread. It slightly constrains her style and timing a little in what is otherwise a superb version. And her vocal range is different naturally to Whitney Houston’s and this isn’t a vocal circus (or American Idol) for that matter.

I have nothing if I don’t have you: I have been on this earth for now 76 years and experienced great vocalist but none the likes of Angelina Jordan. It is not just her unique voice it is her total being that moves me and others like no one else can. AJ has the rare talent to translate and manipulate a song so that it penetrates what we refer to as a soul. Whitney singing “I Have Nothing” never affected me like AJ version does.

Angelina is a master story teller. She was endowed with a highly developed intellect, intuition, and ear. Her pitch has always been spot on even dating back to her astonishing six year old performance of, “I Who Have Nothing”. Angelina has the innate ability to interpret the lyrics of the cover and original songs with the perfect amount of emotion.

A friend of the family who has known Angelina since she was 2 commented that her level of English proficiency was so advanced at a young age that English, like Norwegian, is practically her native tongue.....Angelina's pronunciation is one of the hallmarks of her genius, and is unmatched by any contemporary singer I can think of. She plays with the words, bending and shaping them, flattening or elongating vowels, dropping consonants, scooping and sliding notes, all of these being conscious, stylistic decisions. Sometimes, unless one is familiar with the lyrics, they may question whether it's even English! As an example, listen to her sing It's A Man's World. What she does with some of the words is dazzling.

Great reaction😊 I agree with you, I really appreciate that Angelina did this very own way. And why shouldn't she. Angelina is a very modest girl, but inside she knows that she is one of the world's best singers and that she doesn't have to copy anyone to get recognition. When she had just turned 13 she covered this song in the same key as Whitney, just to prove that she could. A few people have said that she couldn't, because she hear never shown it. That camp went very silent all of a sudden. Her 5 song EP called "Old Enough" will drop by the end of the month, your right, and it will be all originals, just like her debut album later this year. In MY head I look at Angelina as an even better singer than Whitney, because of her insane musical versatility and her VERY young age. Very few, if any singers out there, sings and thrives in 9 different genres. I live your reactions, my friend. Keep"em coming👍 Much love from Norway 🇸🇯❤️ Btw, we are taught English over here, starting in first grade. Take care❤

Sir, Norwegians learn English in Pre school, BUT Angelina´s dad is working internationally. So she began learning very early. The rest was school. In the TV show "the view" at age 8 she still had a bit of problems to find the right words in the interview. But as Miguel says, with her ear, she know how to speak/sing the lyrics of a song. Be safe. Elmar

La Houston herself sang the IHN in two key's. From the movie was 3 semitones higher (starting on a Gmajor chord). The same key Angelina did at age 12 (or 13?) But probably because Whitney had to perform it so often and for such a long time she often did it only one semitone higher (in Fma) than Angelina here at 16 (in Ema). The song is a strain on your vocal cords, even if you have a great technique and a voice changes constantly when you get older. For sure she and her team chose to go for a key that does her voice ánd the song right. Since it is known as a song that is perceived as a voice test (prove you can belt high) I was not too enthusiastic at first. But her storytelling skills made me melt after all. And her softer parts are beautiful, like the last notes. And yes, she can belt! Great reaction, thanks!

This is one of 6 songs you can point to show...yes she can belt. She has no ego to her musical choices. The emotion is the decider not can I show off here. She is a true artist. I prefer the rich thick earthy emotionality of this version to any other cover.

Wonderful reaction TYLR....you undoubtedly get it. There have been so many comments that she is not singing in the same Key as Whitney....really? This is Angelina Jordan and not Whitney Houston, want to hear the same "key" then listen to Whitney. She is giving tribute to one of her idols growing up, singing it with her voice, it is quite simple. She did sing it at 13 in the same key as Whitney because she could. She always shows full respect to the artist she is covering and that is what this is and has absolutely no obligation to prove anything. She is already one of the very best artists in many decades. 🥰🥰🥰🥰

😊 Love her version. I've always enjoyed lower keys, but I assume with her, it's her voice in general being so beautiful across her range, leaving the entire range available and valuable. But then also in this her fry, breathy tones and humming is spectacular, she's so on point with flavors and it makes this song miles better for me.

It's amazing how she uses that tone in singing to create her own sound...it's beautiful...!!!

I’m not 100% sure, but I think Angelina is singing this 3 semi-tones lower than Whitney’s original studio version. The lower key is a smart choice, as it compliments AJ’s deeper and warmer voice. Whitney herself usually lowered the key for live performances, so this is by no means a “wrong” thing to do.

Het native language and language spoken at home is norwegan. She had to learn english as fourth (its third or fourth cant remember) language. Most nordic countries learn at least one of the other's languages. She was singing in english at least by 6 where ive seen a video of her in a booth at school. They were railroading a recprded instrumental track over her, "i who have nothing" is the song to search. Everyone raols against the school for running this overly loud track over her singing. What i enjoy is seeing her reaction, always joy, she starts off drowned out, then you see this grin spread across her face and she decides she is going to nail the chorus and see if she can sing over the trackand belts out some of the finest notes sparced in there that ive ever heard from her. Even at 6, im sure she ruled the music class in school. It would almost be insufferable as another kid. "Like we get it you sing like really really good, but let someone else have the mic angelina" i could just hear a kid saying thqt
