Okay, I never leave bad reviews. This is not a bad review. I appreciate you comparing these two for inter-company products as it can be hard to decide. I watched the whole video with expectations. Got to the end and you said you like one better, you get an extra feature. That's it. Buuu... But... How do they sound to you? How is the depth? Are the highs clear or tingy? Does the bass improve with the more costly model? So much is left unsaid. Also, and I know this can be costly, a better mic to pick up depth of sound would help in future reviews, especially when reviewing such similar products. Keep it up! Just be more specific.

Nice review, but you mention that one set of speakers was connected by RCA and the other by optical cable - wouldn't the optical cable connection utilize the DAC in the speakers vs the DAC in the source? Meaning, that alone could change the sound quite a bit compared to the other speakers.

acoustic systems Edifier R1700BT and Edifier R1280T are built on different types of speakers and different ways to compensate for dips in certain frequency spectra. Personally, I'm more impressed with the sound of the older model, which has undergone a deep modernization of the diaphragm and does not use electronic compensation for low frequencies. Maybe because I consider the art of building speakers as a field of design art. Agree that a container ship can sail faster and carry more cargo, and is less dependent on the weather. But this does not replace the majesty of the sailboat.

I am appreciative of your time and effort, but you cannot compare a Digital Input Source to a 3.5 phono plug and also say it shouldn't make a difference. I'm not pretending it would be a huge difference (especially in the budget category) but clearly there was a volume difference if nothing else! I still gave you a like for the work you put in.

Comparing Analogue input / output is not a good comparison to Optical Digital input / output. Analogue uses the DAC on the soundcard in computer whereas the Optical outputs audio to DAC in Speaker. Best to test both speakers using RCA analogue from a CD / DVD / BLURAY PLayer for uncompressed 16bit 44.1Khz Audio, way better than highly compressed Mp3 / KZread

What you want is the S350DB. The S models are designed for audio fidelity, and the R models suit everyone who is not quite as receptive. Basically you will benefit more from a good 2:1 system with a subwoofer if you enjoy movies and TV with high quality audio, so the S350DB should be ideal. You will also want some good speakers stands (filled with sand), appropriate positioning, and possibly some additional dampers (isolators) on the main speakers. Use the optical connection to avoid ground interference. The S3000 and S2000 are more for music production and work better in a studio where they are positioned to determine the pitch and tone of specific ranges in isolation. They would only work for you if you invested in a separate subwoofer as well because you want the full movie experience. You could do this but it would be far more expensive and overkill for most domestic settings. The S350DBs have ample sound and clarity, and you should only consider stepping up if you have the assistance and expertise of an audio technician and scope to redesign such cinema rooms acoustically from the ground up - but there are better speakers for the job and 5:1 might be the choice. I actually find the S350DB to be so realistic that it has me answering doors and telephones and hearing birds at the windows that are on TV - it is scary realistic. Ideal for what you want. The R1280DB and R1850DB are both too muddy. Music is better on the R1850 (and the R1700) for those that want rich bass tones, but for a lot of country and classical music the R1280 will sound better. Some instruments will be clearer on one than the other and visa-versa. The MR4 is far flatter and offers a better opportunity to work with music, but much of the joy is lost because the tones are very flat, it is nonetheless a more realistic representation, just a bit dead to listen to - not least because the MR4 is near-field and should only be used with a PC for said purposes. In sum, none of the R-models are worth your consideration. Voices will always sound out of place with other noises in movies (car engines, waterfalls, waves crashing etc.) and they will both be quite annoying over time. The R1850 and R1700 have just enough bass for TV, but the sounds will appear unrealistic, especially if you want to hear sports commentary over the stadium crowd. Neither would be even remotely suitable. Like I say, get the S350DBs. They simply do not have any muddiness or dead ranges, plus you get a subwoofer and all the advantages of Bluetooth and digital signal. The clarity is exceptional and price is good. They are fairly small, but I find they fill most rooms and pack a massive punch that keeps the whole town awake at night - all with near perfect sound quality. But if you do have a seriously large room (cinema) - let me know and I'll have a think.

  • @moonny5890

The boomy problem is that the bass dial on the speakers adjusts ~75Hz and if you crank it up to high it sounds like crap. I set the bass dial to the middle so it's not too low and not too high, and adjust the EQ for my soundcard to bring up 30Hz by 1.5dB and 65Hz by 0.5dB. Either way this review is totally unprofessional and inaccurate. You can't compare speakers with totally different adjustments, using different inputs. 1850 is using DAC built in into the speakers, 1280 is using soundcard's dac, what if he has crap soundcard? and then record them and expect people to hear the difference with a recorded mic bias + their own speakers.
