Who made the original deck? All over the place is an understatement. I am currently working on mine again as I'm not really satisfied with it but it's at least coherent. I used Greyfax at first but she, as a commander, dosn't really know what she wants. It's an okay anthem effect but nothing special, and she has no payoff for the clues she generates. It's a shame because I really like her design. It incentivizes agressiveness while still maintaining control with tapping creatures and vigilance. I started building her again as a human tribal with a small tokens and Aristocrat subtheme but I don't feel like she's the right commander for a deck like that either. Was thinking about scraping it up and go to Marneus and go full clue generation for both triggering Marneus, and take advantage of his double strike with cards like cranial plating, Nettlecyst and other equipments. I got to say, this deck is giving me a lot of trouble.

Ethereal Investigator will draw you 3 cards on etb if your commander is out and you've got 3 opponent. Investigate x times will put x seperate investigate triggers on stack. That is why Officious Interrogation is a great card to consider in a Marneus deck.

Wow...at first i didnt understand why this card (Officious Interrogation) made it on the edhrec Site for Calgar. Thanks for this comment. You can go wide, target yourself to draw a ton of cards for just 2 Mana and then even have the clues left to crack them later.

Marneus was my first commander, and I slowly upgraded it with things like you're suggesting. Skrelv, corpse knight, lotho, bastion, ashnods, etc. It ended up just becoming a generic aristrocrats deck and I made Teysa Karlov the commander and took out the blue. I think a more interesting, if less competitive, way to play Marneus is to actually try to make the squad keyword work by going hard into mana ramp and combos.

Im also upgrading my calgar-deck at the moment. Came mostly to the same conclusions. Most of the problem is, that the warhammer cards are good but way to clonky or outdated by better alternatives. Would be cool if you could provide some before and after decklists so one could see the differences better.

A thing I would add for the defense of having Jace in the deck. With the Mondrak and the other token tripler in the deck you can use them with the commander and Ashnods to go into an infinite card draw with infinite colorless mana. This allows you to draw everything, put out the golden throne, sac one of the many 2/2 astartes warriors for 3 blue mana to cast Jace and then boom you win cause you draw again having no cards in the deck to draw. This making it a 3 card solution that effectively turns into its own tutor. Take my opinion with a grain of salt for I am very new to magic. I just have this commander and have built this deck around the infinite draw stuff and have had some great success with it!

I've had a lot of fun testing this upgraded precon at my locals and have some cards that have worked quite well. Junk Winder - can tap down multiple blockers in a more aggressive attacking build God-Eternal Oketra / Oketra's Monument - offers tokens for all your creature casts Training Grounds - opens up an infinite combo with your commander, kills everyone with ashnod's and an aristocrat card Tivit, Seller of secrets - your commander triggers a draw of every clue vote and almost forces them to give you treasures Only issue I have is once you cast things like Thalisse, Tivit or Elesh Norn you quickly become arch enemy and no-one lets you have more then two tokens.

I am satisfied with this deck review I'm listening, and at least keeping Jace because it can just give me a win if I have Nadir kraken, Marneus and a sac engine, allowing me to draw my deck in a turn (x

I see the combo with altar, but it's a four card combo and Jace adds nothing to the main plan which makes me suspicious. If we add tutors I think it'd be fine though.

If it was an instant i'd consider it, but three mana at sorcery it's I think too slow and with the card draw I'd find better to play
