Wonder how Malwarebytes BrowserGuard would do in a test like this. And in regards to the sponsor being a integrated part of the video, it might feel less 'icky' if presented as "here are 2 Browsers and here are the same 2 Browsers with these 2(or whatever number plugins)". Although that gets cumbersome pretty fast. EDIT: Perhaps a test of antimalware browser plugins separately

Ublock origin would have been a better control (testing with both blocklists that are enabled by default and all available blocklists in ublock). Operas built in adblock might have also been interesting to see since it whitelists domains of its advertising partners.

uMatrix is better but you need to learn how to use it yourself. Interesting about Brave which I use, Kaspersky blocks a few Brave misses.

I don't mean to undermine guardio protection against malicious phishing links, but I think it comes with the cost of privacy because If I'm not mistaken it sends every url you visit to a server to look it up in existing lists of malicious links, in contrast google safe browsing is done locally.

This is a phishing test, not a privacy test, that is a whole different question. A lot of products (including Windows Defender/Smart Screen) send your data in order to determine if a site/file is safe or malicious.

@@pcsecuritychannel this a valid point, but I don't see why we can't have both privacy and security in this case, why don't guardio do the same approach as something like uBlock origin and implement a local list of malicious phishing links and do the look up locally, It won't just be more private it will also be faster, if you notice it loads the malicious site for a split second then it redirects you to their custom page.

I never promised it as a miracle cure. I used it as a reference when doing a live phishing test and it did well. I even showed the source so people can cross verify the results for themselves. Deceptive would have been if I preselected links or used different links for Guardio and Edge/Chrome. This is a fully transparent video.

My thoughts: Could you do the same using either Bitdefender and or Kaspersky, both Paid versions. Thanks

this may be just me understanding it wrong, but the first test you did in another video covered how much downloaded files malicious sites could download and this one is about phishing and redirection. For what I know sites could use other forms of infection, couldn't they? A malicious JS script could infect your machine without anything showing in download folder is the statement I heard around the internet. Do I really have to input info in phishing sites or execute a file in downloads folder in order to actually get malware from malicious sites?

Inputting info in phishing sites gives the attacker the information you put in, it doesn’t download malware. And you are correct when you say JS code can download things. However even when it tries to, browsers will typically show files that are downloaded. Some browsers have other sorts of protecting like scanning the download and looking inside the code and comparing it to malware in their database when you download anything. So typically you would need to execute a file to get malware because having someone see a download message when they did nothing would likely make the user get suspicious and not fall for the scam or download the file. Browsers also sometimes isolate the tabs from your machine to mitigate the effects if a script were to run and try to infect your system.

I have Malwarebytes Premium and I use the extension for Edge and I confess it is a good companion. It's not the first time I've received threats without leaving Google. There are people who say "I don't go to suspicious sites..." and neither do I, but I've seen threats blocked by Malwarebytes even on news sites a few times.

I no longer recommend malwarebytes, I had the business version that can monitor 10 of the pc via the web portal, it caught nothing for the past 12 months, could you believe that? Edit- I also have NEXTDNS agent installed on those 10 PCs.

gonna have to agree with some of the others. having guardio on the scoreboard feels misleading/dishonest. clearly only edge and chrome are mentioned in the title, but then only they should be on the scoreboard. plus w your guardio discount/affiliate/etc link at the end........ that v much reads as a promotional video. theres other little things. but i think leaving guardio off the scoreboard would make this feel leagues less biased.

Like he said, browsers that are Chromium based (like Brave) usually use the same protection engine as Chrome. This is proven multiple times when you can see the block message by Brave before the Guardio alert and then chrome blocks it too.

I think Ublock origin plus privacy badger is enough.

In my opinion, it's unfair not to enable advanced protection in Google Chrome and Edge and only compare the default settings with an addon that presumably has full protection enabled. Seems like a promotional video to me, hidden behind a Browser Comparison. Actually, I always liked you for your neutrality and fairness in the tests against different products. I'm disappointed with the video, was personally looking forward to a fair comparison and not a promotional video.

@@pcsecuritychannel I didn't say it was an unfair comparison between Chrome and Edge, I said based on my personal opinion that I think the comparison between Chrome and Edge - without advanced protection - and Guardio with (I assume) advanced protection is unfair. If you were only comparing Edge to Chrome, I'd think that was great. But the Guardio thing, makes it seem like a sponsored placement and I just don't think that fits. The title would fit better with "Edge vs Chrome vs Guardio" for example. But this way, you click on the video and don't expect Guardio to be tested.

Edge is chromium based however, Edge uses Microsoft Defender Smartscreen to block malicious pages as well as the same security features built in to Chromium. Brave probably uses the same Google Safe Browsing because it blocked the same pages as shown in the video.

So what if the video is sponsored by Guardio. It's just being used as a control folks and weather or not it's catching all or most of the phishing sites is irrelevant because Edge and Chrome should be catching them as well whether or not Guardio is running. Simply put Edge and Chrome should both have 19 blocks just like Guardio. Besides when is it a crime to have a sponsor? That's how people make money, you know to make a living. No one is twisting anybody's arm to buy anything, everybody can decide what programs they wish to purchase or not. Thanks for the video Brother, very informative as usual. I'm using chromium, brave & firefox complete difference between edge and chrome. For my test I use wireshark and the telemetry shows privacy invasion. They also had some different style to get your information and so on. Each website has different style too. privacy nightmare. Maybe because I use GNU/Linux for my test not windows. GNU/Linux is my daily driver for my class lectures, personal and professional use from layouts, video editing, photo editing, documents, slideshow presentation, online class and so on. Been using Windows off and on from 98 to 2019. In between that I use Unix / GNU/Linux & BSD. That gave me some interesting results. They say if it is free. You are the product. I maybe not perfect but I feel more secure in GNU/Linux, Unix & BSD.

Yea, opening a bunch of links would be much easier by automation, even through an extension (then looking at the tab title for a result). Only limit I can think of is resource usage, it will take a while to load multiple tabs at the same time unless there is a delay in between opening each tab.

Malwarebytes browser guard review when?

Slightly misleading thumbnail as it shows brave as well however when I clicked I only saw Edge and chrome. The next test should be Edge, Chrome with ublock origin lite (Since the regular one is phased out due to manifest changes at the end of the year) and Brave. Lastly you tested with only going to less than 50 websites. Write a batch script and open 100+ and give us the results.

Excuse, isn't there a way that browsers can Sandbox malicious JS code? JS Code that tries to access precious files like your session tokens ? FritangaPlays got attacked that way. In a way, I wish browsers could detect when JS code are trying to access known directories holding private information. If you asked a KZreadr to use BeEf or try a Linux install to avoid an attack. It would be complicated. I feel most of these attacks can be resolved within the browsers JavaScript engines. But they never do that.

Uninstall mcafee if you can. A lot of times mcafee cannot be uninstalled

Watching Guardio work was slightly concerning tbh, yes it blocks the site after what appears to be first fully loading it then deciding it is unsafe and to block it, almost all of its blocks were after it loaded, that small window of loading the website and all its assets could be all someone needs

Librewolf would behave the same as Firefox, with Google safe browsing turned off. Librewolf would (by default) disable the Google filter list, because they want as few pings to both Mozilla and Google, as possible... because privacy.

Like I explained in the video, brave would do the same as chrome as it is using the same filters. You can even see it if you observe the test and see when the red warnings pop up. That’s why I used Guardio as a control.

Not to you. But some people don’t have anti-malware programs installed that will block phishing attempts without needing to install an extension which is easy, but I don’t know if grandma knows how.

You know, when you are down the rabbit hole in The Bay or in The Hub, there are plenty of malicious links. I think I'm gonna test drive Guardio.

Chrome blocks alot of sites for me , because of my extensions .i get an warning message back to safety or click on advance and visit anyway . Microsoft really doesn't like Chrome my last update completely blocked the vhrome launcher and i had to sync Edge and import my chrome accounts into Edge because i haven't got time to make repairs .

Neither is safe.

Is Firefox any good anymore?

They were all crypto scams thats pretty bad! Id love to see this done at the DNS level... Next DNS, VPN DNS, Cloudflare, Quad9 etc

I think it would be pretty much the same.

I’d recommend Kaspersky premium. Though, if you’re a PC gamer, it might make the game run slow. It has a game mode that you can enable.

If your antivirus is effecting performance in game that much than you need to find a better Anti Virus. I currently use Malwarebytes but have also used Sophos in the past and neither AV effected in game performance unless I told it to do a full scan using their built in AI to find malware that isn't publicly identified yet.

What would you expect to test in a browser security video? Look through severity of past vulnerabilities, try to exploit it with cross site scripting? Just curious as to what you were expecting.

Everybody knows security strength and policies are decided on a per profile per account basis. Maybe in Chrome, vs edge you're using different accounts. And one has permissive traits while the other is enforcing strict policies. This is a neat niche audience you're building here but I'm a lot less impressed than most of your regular viewers

How do the browsers not kill these crack websites yet they are just on top "PC crack software". I run these websites in any run, njrat njrat, njrat, njrat😅
