    Interesting comparison. Always felt the lower the temps, egt coolant, trans engine oil the longer the engine ran without stress. Fuel savings are important to as it puts money in your pocket.

    I was running the stock tune for awhile but seeing the egt loss consistently, I can't justify going back. I will definitely do an update on fuel mileage when I have to run at least a 600 mile stretch with no trailer!

    That Over drive Hit on the Edge tuner is vicious 😂😂 i usually drive around with overdrive off around town and stuff . I enjoy these videos and your test. Anytime I like doing small tests like this while I'm driving down the road also sometimes

    If you let off halfway through the shift and get back on it, you get the stutututu from the turbo 😂 I rarely use OD off since the stock file holds 3rd for so long. With the tune, it's right on 50 99% of the time. If I know I'm holding a gear loaded I'll either put it 1st 2nd, or OD off and manually lock the converter in that gear. If I'm towing with cruise on I always lock the converter so it can't down shift. Nothing worse than downshifting into 3rd at 72mph 🫣

    What’s your thoughts on a weight distribution hitch? I’ve got a 19 ram v8 with a 4200 lbs camper she likes to wonder around around 63 mph. I’ve not heard you talk about sway

  • @CPSteveMiller

    @CPSteveMiller

    16 күн бұрын

    I very rarely get sway but I set my truck up to be as stable as possible. Rear suspension is dropped and just touches the timbren bump stops without a load on it and then the 22s width helps as well. When it's hooked up to a trailer it crushes down on the timbrens and keeps the truck stable. It takes a really badly distributed load for me to have sway but in your case, I would look into weight distribution hitches and sway control. It took me a long time to dial in what I have now. Lots of testing over the years

  • @legionofanon

    @legionofanon

    Distribution within the trailer makes a difference, too. If you pull a tariler and it didnt wander one time, but then wanders after that, you could have slightly more weight loaded behind the axle. Weight distrubution hitches help a lot if you got too much tongue weight, and a little with sway, but a sway bar is def needed for wind caused sway since it adds a lot of resistance for the ball in the turning direction. Ive heard they can squeal when you are turning, but ive never had one

    I always play it safe with my truck. I like to keep 1300 EGT the max and 1100 the norm for shifting. Just thinking about turbo longevity. Stock Holset HX35. I noticed you're running 2k at 70mph and my G56 runs 3k at 70 in 6th gear. You must be running a fat pinion?

  • @CPSteveMiller

    I'll hold 1,350 for hours. As long as it's got oil flow, it'll be fine. If you can keep them under 1,300, there's nothing wrong with that. My turbo is dirt cheap compared to the vgt's, though!

    Pretty risky to tune the truck on the side of the road far away from home. I always have a charger connected to the battery….if voltage drops to much you can brick your ecu, corrupt tunes, or get errors of failed tune install. I learned this the hard way😂😂😂😂

    Fuel timing will make a huge difference. Stock timing is 100% fuel after TDC. Most tuners will go 50% before TDC and 50% after TDC. This will help with egt and mpg.

    it should be easier to get higher EGT's when it's colder out... sure you don't have a bad probe or something? That is awfully high it seems? I barely hit 1100to 1200 in really long 30+ boost scenarios.

    Cold weather keeps the egts down. These 03 to 07 commonrails run hot from the factory and are rated at 1300 to 1350 prolonged. I also have 50hp injectors and am cruising at 71mph so that'll make them go up. When it was cold out, I would hold it damn near to the floor for 8 hours at a time pulling the tiny home or bigger campers.
