Why aren’t you running a FASS system?! You absolutely need a FASS at least a 100gph but a 165 will do perfect! Do a sump! You won’t have to even drop the tank! I like the beans diesel dual port sump. The 2nd port can be used as a fuel return, I choose to do the filler kneck return one. And that leave the 2nd port on the sump open to be a aux tank fuel in. And it’ll gravity feed in as the fuel level in the truck tank drops the aux tank will gravity feed in. You won’t have to do those road side fill ups all the time! Who knows what quality fuel you’re getting all over the place! All the different truck stops and gas station you fuel up at, who knows the quality of fuel you’re getting, a fass is cheap cheap insurance! You figure how much one common rail injector costs m, and you’ve already lost one injector! A fass 165 is about $800, around there. Thats cheap insurance when you take into consideration how much 6 new common rail injectors is! And how much a new cp3 costs! Now a cp3 isn’t prone to damages like a vp44 pump is when the lift pump can’t supply enough volume and pressure. But a fass filters much much better! I like to run the big over sized CAT Filters. The main filter is a 1-2 micron! And the water separator is a 5 micron! Most factory OE filter systems don’t even go down to 5 microns. All that factory crap on the side of the block you can’t remove and it really cleans up the engine bay and give you all sorts of room, you can literally get to the starter from the topside! Thats what I would do, I would plumb your aux tank into the sumps 2nd port like I mentioned! You can even put a shut of valve in line you can simply turn it on/off if you don’t want it to gravity feed as the trucks main tank level drops. You wouldn’t even have to stop and refill, you’d be sucking up less crap on the bottom of the aux tank if there is a bunch of junk in it you’ve picked up on the road at old truck stop pumps. You really outta be running a fuel additive to. Who knows what kind of fuel you’re getting. I like putting in the ‘diesel service’ white jug. The red jug is the 911 and that’s for IF your JELLED. I also like running just straight up ATF or 2cycle oil. I’ll dump in a couple ways of atf and or a wt of 2 cycle pre mix oil. It’s good for it! Helps luve them injectors and injection pumps up! The new ultra low sulfur diesel fuel these days is terrible and really hard on injection system parts. It dosent have any lubricity to it. And that’s where the 2cycle oil works good. The atf is good because it helps lubricate injectors and stuff, but it is also very highly detergent. It has a lot of cleaning detergents in it, so it’ll help keep your injectors and injection pump shiny clean! It never hurts to dump a wt or 2 of ATF in your fuel tank. Some people like to run it straight up and just lightly dilute it down with diesel fuel. I’ve done it before, I did an actual veggie WVO conversion on an old ‘86 VW rabbit ‘caddy’ truck I had. Non turbo 4 cylinder diesel! The caddy truck it had a factory topper on it, so it made the perfect place in the bed for an aux tank, I got a 30 gal aux tank and put it back there, rigged up a heater on a switch. I had dual fass systems, one for diesel and one for waste veggie oil/ waste oil/atf, basically you’d start it on diesel, get everything all warmed up, and then switch over to Waste veggie oil and cruse! That sucker got like 60mpg! lol it had a little 1” tail pipe! You could make it roll coal to it was so funny! And once you got to where you were going you’d switch back over to diesel, and purge the lines and injection pump of any waste oil and then shut down. You did this purge to prevent any waste veggie oil or waste oil from plugging anything up like the filters or an injection line. I had an entire set up at home to filter everything starting thru a bedsheet folded 3-4 times, and then running it down thru to 5-10 microns into a holding tank that I would use to fill my aux tank in the bed. Restaurants would just give me 5 gallon jugs of oil, a lot of it! Waste motor oil and atf from jiffy lube. It was pretty neat to do. I don’t know if I’d try it with a cp3 common rail tho. You can do it with a vp44 or p7100 injection systems . But seriously dude you need to be running a FASS system. As many miles as your putting on, and the unknown questionable quality of fuel at all the different truck stops, your playing Russian rolluette with getting a bad tank of fuel! And it’ll cost ya, a fass system would then of paid for itself! Seriously…every diesel engine regardless of power stroke, duramax, Cummins, Volvo, whatever, needs a fass system. I thought of a cool idea the other day, a setup where if you needed to change your engine oil out on the road, you could have an easy setup, to drain it right out of your oil pan, and have it go right into your fuel tank to dilute down with diesel. No having to drain it into a pain or jug and then pouring it into the tank, none of that mess and crap. Just a simple easy setup, to make it go right from drain fitting in the engine oil pan to fuel tank and not spill a drop.

My truck actually does 7500 to 10k miles a month.. Oh and reliably.. This is the first problem I've had in a long time and it wasn't even a stock part. I mentioned this in another comment on another video, you should totally think about putting together a ‘break down bin’ lol seriously. Like a med sized Rubbermaid tote with a closeabow lid to keep everything dry and out of the weather, and have all sorts of seals, belts, extra fuel filters, an extra water pump, (Cummins is 2 bolts! And relatively small in size) Extra bulbs, fuses, carry an extra injector, jugs of coolant and distilled water, oil filter, extra 2.5 gallons of oil, gaskets don’t take up much space, you could easily have an entire master gasket set in there to lol, wheel seals, pinion seals, output shaft tcase seal, extra heater hose, a rad hose, extra thermostat, wire, crimps, ring terminals, anything that regularly goes out and is easily replaced! It would beat having to cross your fingers and hope that there is a near by auto parts store and one that’s open, and hopefully they have the part, you wouldn’t have to worry about that because you got everything you need in a dry storage tote box, you got enough room there in the bed for a medium sized tote or dry storage, lockable even Rubbermaid container, at Walmart prolly $30. It’s be something to think about, wouldn’t be hard to put together and wouldn’t cost that much. “Chance favors the prepared mind’

You order/ buy replacement crossmembers for the bed. Just drill a few spot welds out to remove the stock oe ones and weld up a few plug welds to put the new ones back in. Thatd prolly be your cheapest easiest best bet, you gotta take everything out of the bed and remove it anyways if you was going to replace it or what ever. Like it’s kind of a hodge podge dodge way of fixing it, but it would be the cheapest, and not very hard. You got the welder. Heh. I don’t do rust. I’ve nerver owned a truck that had rust and never will. Not even the 6 first gen’s 12v Cummins trucks I had had a single speck of rust anywhere. None. All Colorado trucks man. The one 1st gen my flat bed 4x4 it came from WY and it was solid. Colorado don’t salt the roads. They always say you don’t EVER want to buy or own a truck from east of the Mississippi. Pretty Much anything east of Kansas or up north. They are all rust buckets. Brand new trucks rusting after 2-3 years. It’s terrible. I’d never do it. I’m super lucky being in Colorado and they don’t salt the roads here, heck it hardly ever even snows here anymore except up at higher elevations over 8000ft on elevation, but over here on the western slope close to the UT border it hardly even snows and if it does it’s melted away by noon time. My ‘02 24v HO 6 speed she’s solid, not the Tinest itty bitty speck of rust anywhere. Even the door bottoms are perfect and I made sure to prevent any future rust issues and keep it protected. You guys out there on the east coast, like NY,NH, PA IN, OH, it’s terrible, you need to use fluid film! It’s this stuff you buy in a can and spray it on your undercarriage once a year in the fall. It protects your under body, frame and everything, keeps it looking literally brand new. It don’t wash off at the car wash and you only gotta spray it on once a year. It’s called ‘Fluid Film’. There’s guys that swear by the stuff, it works really good. I would loose my marbles if my truck started rusting away because of road salt. They out to ban the use of it, it’s so terrible, like I’ve seen brand new trucks, not even a couple years old, that already had paint bubbling, rusted frames and exhaust. We just don’t see stuff like that out here in Colorado or Arizona. Colorado , Arizona, CA, UT, TX, NM, NV, are some of the best states to look to buy a truck from, although down in the deserts of AZ where it’s hot and dry rubber seals and window seals and door trim can be sun rotted and dried out. I guess it’s easier to throw some new door seals and window seals and a new windshield gasket on rather than rusted and eaten away and replacing panels or having a bunch of rust cancer patch panels else being welded in and bondoed over and repainted. Even just working on a vehicle from the north east like doing a break job is a nightmare because fighting all of the rusty bolts. They out to make road salt illegal. I’d have to have a wash rack in my front yard to drive up onto so I could hotsie pressure wash the underside of my truck every day after driving it. I didn’t do it last year but I like to ever summer get out the rain coat and the hotsie boiler pressure washer and crawl under with my truck and believe everything and aggressive pressure washing. Every hole, nook and cranny. Then get 10 cans of .99 cent Walmart gloss black spray paint and go to town on the frame, axles, leaf springs, inside and out, every nook and cranny of the frame, and give them all a nice shiny coat of gloss black to keep it looking good and not have any road grime sticking to anything and easily washed off at the spray n pay car wishy wash. You some people with a nice truck and their frame and axles look as rusty as an old railroad track. Thats gross, and says neglect. Maintenance man, attention to detail, the little things that keep your truck looking nice and maintained, something as simple as .99 cent cans of gloss black spray paint on the frame once or twice a year will keep it from going downhill! I know this video was a few weeks ago, but that’s what I would do is buy replacement bed crossmember s. I’m You can find them, they prolly come with an e coat primer, just rattle can em black after you plug weld em in place. That would be cheaper than trying to find a new bed or swapping beds, a black mismatched bed is gunna look all hodge podge dodge man. Our new bed cross members in and then you can do your dually conversion you were talking about and put the duallly flare on and hide them cancer scars where someone patched in patch panels in the top Of the wheel wells lol. Dually flares outta hit that, or some bush walker fender flares. lol bushwhacked fender flares is usually a dead giveaway of rust. You can almost guarantee that them brand new bushesckers that some dood just put on his faded dodge with peeling paint was to hide and cover up the rusty fender edges. lol. Seen it many many times. And if they aren’t rusted, then they will be cause that’s all fender flares do is trap moisture and salt spray and make it rust out quicker!

Are you not running a FASS fuel system? If not it needs to be an absolute must have. With all the different types and ‘qualities’ of fuel your running, who knows what kind of contaminants has run thru your fuel system and brand new injectors. Dirty fuel and water is what kills injectors. There is such fine fine tight tolerances in a modern diesel solenoid type fuel injector. You should be running at least a a FASS 100, I went with a 165. A little extra isn’t gunna hurt anything, it just means it will cycle a full tank over and ‘polish’ the fuel. I run the big huge CAT filters that are like twice the size of the normal fass oe filters. The cat filters have a finer filter to 1-2 micron on the main filter and the cat water sep is like 5 microns. Thats super super fine. But yeah if you still have the stock fuel filter get rid of that junk. When you put on the fass do a beans diesel fuel port sump, you won’t even have to drop the tank. The dual port sump will give you either a return port, or use it for a ‘fuel in’ from your aux tank and you won’t have to pump from the aux tank into your trucks OE tank. All that filling up here and filling up there and then dropping on the side of the road to to fill your trucks tank from the aux tank, to Much opportunity for contamination and dirt/ dust to get in. And who knows how clean your aux tank even is? lol you totally need to be running a FASS, it’s cheap insurance. Having to replace one injector is the cost of the fass system! It’ll pay for itself. With that dual port beans diesel sump, use that 2nd port to gravity feed fuel into your trucks OE tank, as you use fuel from the trucks OE tank, fuel will gravity feed in from the aux tank and always stay full! Put a shut off valve on it is you want to save the aux tank fuel and not use it. Delete all the stock oe stuff under the hood and really clean up the under hood, you’ll have almost enough room To do the stater from the top! lol. Ignore the haters dude. They’re just jellous they don’t even have a diesel truck or a tool box.
