That's awesome. I tried my best to buy my high school truck from the dude that had it. He must have known who I was cuz about the fifth time seeing it, I started walking up to him and he yelled at about 100ft away. "It's not for sale!"

Gotta say one of the best parts out of this entire video is the spare key screwed to the wall. Thats just as good as finding the truck for sale locally again.

I certainly understand the nostalgia surrounding your first truck. Mine was a '70 Chevy with a blown engine I bought for $50. All the great memories of working on it with my buddies and the adventures we had are priceless to me now. Unfortunately, I live in the rust belt and the truck was in poor shape when I bought it. By the time I gave up on it, it was no longer safe to drive. Fun fact: The original owner had named it Fred and would only sell it if the next owner promised to call it Fred. That requirement was passed down from owner to owner. RIP Fred...

I bought my '97 new in August 1997 ( 3/4 ton 5speed manual long bed club cab Laramie slt). i have never regretted that decision! Just over 200k on the clock. the only thing I wish it had is the 4:10 gears. It does have a few mods on it. I live in Wyoming and grew up in Laramie. Congratulations on finding your old truck!

Hell yeah Sam!!! Best VBelt & Son video of 2024 😎 I’ve been waiting for this from being a long time subscriber and I’m so happy for you because I know the feeling. In 2017 I sold my 01 single cab (my favorite truck ever) because of my stupid ex in order to buy a new truck with four doors. Next day I was sick to my stomach and I couldn’t believe what I had done, I told myself I would do whatever it took to get my truck back. 3 months later I was able to buy it back. It was tough having two truck payments but I made it happen by having a second job after my main job. I’ll never sell that truck ever again. It pulls all gooseneck trailers. Looking forward to seeing you restore it. Please keep the stock red bed on it, I like those red second gens with the chrome strip on the bottom. I’ll keep an eye out for a nice replacement. Congrats man!!!

I don't usually leave comments on videos but, I just wanted to let you know that I've been following your channel for years sir. I really enjoyed seeing you get your old rig back, it brought back a lot of memories of my own trucks I've had over the years. I think a lot of us have experienced that overwhelming sensation of regret after selling one of our beloved vehicles, not many of us get an opportunity to mend that wound. Not long after I got out of the Army, I attempted to start my own "hot-shoting" business with my first ever ole 2nd gen. She was a 99 dually, far from my vision of my "holy grail" rig but, nonetheless, it still hurt to have to sell everything at the time. Fastforward a few years and a couple trucks later, I finally found her, my one owner 01 4x4 dually w/nv5600. I look forward to years of keeping this ole girl on the road and putting her to work when I can, and I can assure you, you'll never see this one on marketplace!

I had a 1991 Mustang GT 5.0 red, 5spd as a senior in high school that I bought on my own. I would buy that car back in a heartbeat, but like your buddies Toyota I’m sure it’s absolutely destroyed. Changed the oil every 3,000 miles it was loved!!! I hit a deer at 110mph, went through more back tires than I can count, the memories over 4 years in that car were amazing.

That’s a pretty cool story and video! Been watching your channel for a while now and it was cool to get some back history. You got pretty lucky it looks in pretty decent shape! Typical paint peel and a dented bedside. It’ll buff out. Im totally the same as you, I’ve always had a truck, my first vehicle was a truck. And although I’ve had like 40 something trucks over the years. I’ve got the best truck you can have, and that’s a 2002 24v HO 6 speed with literally no miles. It had 79,000 k on it when I bought it 9 years ago, and barely has 100k on it now. And I would never sell it. I’ve had people approach me in town, wanting to buy it, I turned down 35k cash one time, told the guy NO! I couldn’t replace it for any amount, even if someone gave me $100k it’s not gunna get me what I have. And that’s a pre Emissions 24v High output with a 6 speed manual! It’s the truck I’ll keep for ever. I thought I’d never sell my ‘06 mega cab 24v. But it was a smart Move cause just like you it open up a lot of doors, the money from the mega cab bought me a house and it bought my white ‘02 second gen. So it was a smart move to sell one nice truck and be able to buy another even better nicer truck and a house! I can’t think of any truck I wish I could go buy back and have again. The mega cab was an automatic so meh, I had a $9500 transmission in it. I almost manual swaped ir but got talked into building a stage 5 ATS trans. I guess I wish I could get back one of my 2wd first gens 12v manuals I had. I’ve had 6 of them, 2wd and 4wd, all of them manuals. Or maybe the little VW rabbit ‘caddy’ diesel truck I had. It even had the factory topper shell on it! It was so little and coool! A little vW truck. Non turbo diesel, the injection pump was even a Bosch ve rotary style pump! It was super clean, rust free, it was a nice for a 1984. It was baby blue. The thing for like 60 mpg of diesel.

I'm on my second 2001 Dodge 2500 turbo diesel, 5 speed manual transmission, 4wd, 8 ft. bed. Both of them were used when I got them. The second one I just purchased it in December of 2022. Both trucks came from Montana. I really like it but would rather have something newer. Mine needs a paint job but that's about it. The interior is in really good condition with hardly any ware and no rips on the seat. No stains either.

GREAT STORY ...Same thing happened to me! Been tryin over 5yrs to buy back. Noticed it within minutes of it listed on OfferUp. Its 1992 reg cab chevy tonneau cover. Cammed all mechanical ran thru new everything 700r4 upgraded rebuilt corvette servos . Guy used it as a work truck 70k miles guy used it and mixed (dex-cool) mixed with green antifreeze 😡 and got rid of the trans for a junkyard no 3-4 gear. Bought it back half price after saying im getting half a truck back. So $1200 and its moving my trailers around yard til i get trans rebuilt. I am in the 209 and it still passes smog even with the crane cam.

I actually have a green Dodge truck stepside push button automatic. I would have to guess but maybe 65. The cool thing was at High School skyline we had a downhill and if the battery was dead truck transmission had a rear pump downhill hit the push button automatic and actually bumped Start. I have too many cars now currently for jeeps Cherokee and grand Cherokee, which are a lot of fun and three newer trucks all ram. That stepside, though with the push button automatic was one of a kind.

@@VBELTandSON the truck is probably to old to get oem. But Lmc truck and a couple other companies like it sell aftermarket ones. Also I would check with Keystone. On rare occasions we have used, used ones you just have to take your time drilling the spot welds then you can use the holes for plug welds putting it back on.

I’m about to pick up my newly acquired 98 12v 5 speed truck. Now off the top of my head I don’t know much about it. I know it’s got 841k miles and the owner still drives it from time to time. We worked out a deal and I’m gonna get it this weekend or early next weekend. What front end parts have you had good luck with? Of course I’d like thuren or synergy but I’d rather not put that kindve money in a truck with that kindve miles until I know it’s going to last for sure. Any input would be appreciated man I love watching the videos and your opinion would be one I’d think highly of.

As a young 19 year old trying to figure out what to do in life, would you say WyoTech is worth it to learn how to work on, fix, and do preventative maintenance on trucks and cars? I am a resident of the state already and I want to hop into the automotive world to one day build my own custom trucks that will run for as long as I live.
