Eddie Murphy on Iconic Celebrity Filled Photo, $100,000 Bet with Richard Pryor & New Christmas Movie

Комедия

Eddie talks about his love of reality shows, realizing his age while filming Beverly Hills Cop 4, an amazing photograph he took with a bunch of legendary stars in 1990 at a tribute to Sammy Davis Jr., meeting Frank Sinatra, having dinner with Lola Falana, the rumor that Stevie Wonder isn’t actually blind, his new movie Candy Cane Lane, his favorite holiday movies, the gifts he gets from his kids, his $100,000 bet with Richard Pryor, and daring Dick Cavett to do crazy things in the 80s.

I am a Dave Chappelle fan but some of you claim that he is the best to ever do it. No he is not and even Dave will tell you that Eddie is the best to ever do it. Legends like Richard Pryor and Redd Foxx paved the way for Eddie but there is no one else quite like him. Eddie paid for Chris Rock to fly first class to go perform on the Tonight Show with Johnny Carson. Eddie put Chris and Dave in his movies (Boomerang and Nutty Professor). Eddie was a legendary cast member on Saturday Night Live, was a legendary standup comedian, starred in iconic comedies (too many to name), was the voice of Donkey in Shrek, sang and danced in Dreamgirls and put out hit songs like "Party All The Time" in the 80's. Eddie is the GOAT and it's not even close. I could listen to him tell stories all day.

Comparing comedians is like comparing apples & oranges. Yes,apples and oranges. Different types of comics & comedy is so subjective. imo in terms of the art-form of Standup comedy, Dave is hands down the 🐐 but one would argue he specialized in it. Eddie quickly transitioned to the big screen and stole our hearts with a lot of classics. I would argue he is the 🐐 in that aspect.

I will always love Eddie Murphy. The very first comedian or "stand up" comedian I ever heard. It was on cassette tape.. titled "Delirious". I was about 9 years old, pasty southern white girl.😆 My big brother got it, and he was 13. We listened to it over and over and over again. And I'm telling you that today at age 50, I can still quote (my brother can too) about half of that tape word for word.😅

I saw this on Kimmel. I'm also privileged to have seen Eddie's RAW Concert live back in 1986 in Richmond, Virginia (at the old Richmond Coliseum). Eddie's star rose at a very magical time, in that he came of age and superstardom when Hollywood was still "golden" - where a lot of the titans of show business were alive and well and still viable - as that group photo shows. They all were probably as awed of Eddie as he was of them!! I get the sense that, at moments, Eddie feels "alone" because of lot of them have passed on - even though he's revered by today's comics, entertainers and others in the spotlight. Long live Eddie Murphy!!

Man, what a great interview. Eddie’s actual personality is very reserved, at least now, a far cry from the stage and film presence we all know and love. But still as funny and as charming as ever. Would love to see him do a special at this age, but could also just sit and listen to him tell stories from his prime era. Jimmy is so affable too, he did a great job getting Eddie to open up.

I came here from a comment on the Beatles “Now and Then” video. I, too, watch the video over and over, at least once a day. Eddie Murphy was hilarious on SNL back in the 80s when both of us were young. I’m almost 61 and it’s great to see Eddie at 62 still rockin’ and loving the Beatles. My favorite part of this interview was when Eddie said that he couldn’t run down the stairs that fast. I hear you, Eddie. I can’t either. But I love being in my early 60s and you look great, Eddie!
